LC130 Version astonished performance
Apr 20th, 2016 at 12:59pm
Print Post
Hi C130 user,
after long time use of c130J-Type I would like to fligh some logistic route in Antarctica and greenland. For this reason I test the LC130 type and I am astonished about the performance differen between c130J and lc130 types.
Equipped with max cargo and max fuel climb speed not more 140kts and climb rate 500 -1000 ft/min.
Under these conditions I am only able to reach FL 160.
Indicated Cruise speed not more than 170 kts.
Are there anybody who can confirm these observations/performance data?
Is there so big difference between J and LC Type?

ist is an absolut desaster
I try with full cargo but only 24000 lbs fuel.
reache FL220 max and fly with ind. airspead only max 170 kts.
I think there is an error for this type of aircraft. These big differences coult not be with or without ski

I compare wight&balance, eigine-data and fule date of
Types C_Mk1, HC-130, C130T,C130A, Kc130 with LC-130.
There are no differences.
I start with all types with full cargo and full fuel.
Except Type LC130 all other climb with 170-180 kts and climb rate of 2000 ft/min.
LC130 reache climb rate of 1000ft/min or below and speed not more 140 kts. (short below stall)
Why? Where is the reason?

Hey hello,

No idea in the moment what's the reason of your problem, but with mine LC-130 it is all fine. Flight performance is the same as by the other models.

Maybe there is a problem with the speedbrake? Check if it is DISABLED. I think the speedbrake works a bit different in combination with the skies.

Have you got full thrust? Check the % at the Throttles.

In my initial testing, when Steffen first contacted me by email, I was having similar problems with the LC-130, when compared to the C-130E. Twice, the LC-130 stall and crashed on me, yet I believe I was flying it the same way as I had flown the C-130E.

Strangely enough, I'm doing a test flight now, and the LC-130 is performing no different to the C-130E. I'm currently climbing at 211KIAS, at about 1000fpm, and just passing 21,000 feet. So I don't know why it was under performing in earlier testing (about a week ago).

Note. Now in level flight at 22,000 feet, flying at 245KIAS, so it's working fine today. Weird!

Dear all,
I don't understand the situation.I try again and have no problems. Climbing with 1000 ft/min with 210 kts to FL210; full cargo and full fuel!!
100 % RPM
Putting Air deflector you can pull up and down the skies
At FL210 I reach 260 kts.
I think the reason could be influences between pitch and trim.
In the virtuell cockpit window there is no possibility to habe a look on the Trim Tab Control Panel. What do you do?

I don't understand anything
I try gain and count not fond the situation as described before
Now climbing speed 140 kts  and 1000 ft/min.
I try different situations between trim and pitch without better performance.
The attached picture shows horizontal fligh at FL130 but not more 180 kts at full power.
If I trim horizontally the Airplain descent with 3000 ft/min.
There are any problems but I have no Idea.
I is strange that Markoz found onetimes my first bad situation and some times later the better one.
Now I can confirm this performance change from one day to another. But only for this Type LC-130

It is possible that if I applied too much pitch at the beginning, that it then struggled for the entire time I was climbing in the LC-130. However, I doubt it. And that's because if that does happen, I usually level off (ALT HOLD) to gain speed, then start climbing again once I have gained plenty of airspeed. It's possible I failed to do that in my first test, but I doubt it. Undecided

sorry for these hard review, but it is an absolut desaster with this model.
I try with different climb activities, with and without AP, Trim and pitch but i Receive always the bad conditions.
If you have an look to my picture in my post before you can see, that the aircraft is not in horizontal condition at climb 0-state.
That is the reason I think.

Are there any other C130-User who can test the LC-130 model please. And reproduce all.

Greetings,

Try to use my aircraft.cfg and test again. Maybe there is an error in it?

I have also modded the cameras, see if you like itĀ  Smiley

I don't use the internal attachment-system because of any reason I can't access/download attached files. Maybe this problem have other people too.

Many, many thanks.
It seems to work.
Quick fly results
climbing with 1500 ft/min at 170 kts.
At FL100 speed 210 kts.
Next steps are to reprduce this results.
But I don't find any difference betwenn old and your file.
For reproducibility test I take change between both files.
I will inform you about observations.

best results with mustang-file.
Reproducible bad result with old file.
I am happy.
Now can I start with Antarctica fly. Smiley

Hi Mustang1977
I would like to try to solve deeper the problem.
Could it be possible that the basic difference is a wrong c130.air-file.
I would like to test my old .cfg-file with your (if possible) c130.air-file which will be found in the CS-EX2_LC130-folder.

Hey buddy,

It's nice to hear that I could help  Smiley

No problem with the air-file, here we go:

It seems to be more complex than I have expected.
I tested all combinations between old and new .cfg and .air files with full cargo (30000 lbs) and 100% fuel in all tanks.
With Climbing rate at 1500 ft/min climbing speed reached at 145 kts in all combinations.
Cruising speed at 10000 ft reached to 200 kts.
But I think there are influences at climbing phase if you are using pitch from autopilot panel or trim.
Using pitch it is possible to run in stall.
Another observation I found that .cfg-file will be changed after each flight. (seen at change of date/time of the file)

If you use the ACE, and then SAVE any changes, that will change the aircraft.cfg, therefore changing the creation date. Make no changes, and the date won't change. Wink

Hey all,
I think I found the reason.
At the ground you can lift the ski by punsh the air deflector button.
But after T/O the ski works like an air deflector and reduce the speed.
After punching air deflector again the climb speed at 2000 ft/min raise to 220 kts !! This effect is not visible. It seems to be inside of the C130.air-file.
I am happy about this observation.

If you look at the aircraft.cfg file you might find why you don't see any difference between the variants.   They all have the same settings no matter E, H, J (KC,HC,LC,AC)

[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain=0.02
inlet_area=1.0
rated_N2_rpm=29920
static_thrust=158
afterburner_available=0
reverser_available=1

[turboprop_engine]
power_scalar=1.0
maximum_torque=19600     ;H:maximum_torque(23030)

Not really sure how they came about these configurations for the maximum torque but all the C-130 legacy (E,H) models should have the Allison T56-A-15 engines, and the J has the Rolls Royce AE2100-D3

When you compare the older T56 models with shaft horse power you can see the difference.
T56-A-7: 4,200 shp (3,133 kW)
T56-A-14: 4,600 shp (3,433 kW)
T56-A-15: 4,591 shp (3,425 kW)
T56-A-425: 4,600 shp (3,433 kW)
T56-A-427: 5,250 shp (3,920 kW)
T56-A-427A: 5,100 shp (3,806 kW)

The 2100D3:
Power:
AE 2100 A/P: 4,152 shp (3,096 kW)
AE 2100D2 and AE 2100D3: 4,637 shp (3,458 kW)
AE 2100J: 4,591 shp (3,423 kW)

In regards to what you are seeing on climb out the difference in settings may be a place you look at (19600 vs 23030) on the maximum torque.
