B-52 in Prepar3D v2 (it kinda works, but doesn't)

Print Post
Just returned to flight-simming after a long time, got Prepar3D v2! It's a lot better than FSX IMO, nicer graphics, better performance, and GENERALLY a good compatibility with FSX addons. However, after creating a dummy FSX to install the B-52 Driver to, and then merging the SimObjects and Effects folders in - I came across some problems.

The plane loads up fine (the first time) and all gauges display after switching views a couple times. I was looking around the cockpit, and I tried turning on the terrain radar. That's when it got ugly.

Sim froze up, had to terminate it. I thought I could just avoid any more problems by not activating the radar the next time I loaded the sim, but...

...this time it didn't load up at all. It came up with an error message on launch, saying it 'couldn't load the default flight', then went on to say 'couldn't load any default aircraft'. The sim then quit itself.

I only fixed the problem by unfortunately uninstalling the B-52... Sad

Any fixes you guys might have? I know others have come across this problem with other CS aircraft - just need some kinda tweak to fix it...

Thanks.

I thought I had tried every Captain Sim FSX addon aircraft in P3Dv2 without any major problems. I did have similar problems with most of them, but I think it was just sounds, not something that caused P3D v2 to become corrupt. I will test it out and see what happens.

I found that fix, and downloaded it, back in December last year. But I don't remember ever having to use it. Maybe it's only needed if you use FlightSim Estonia's Migration Tool. Because I have FSX installed, I copied the CS aircraft from FSX to P3Dv2 and manually added the entries into the DLL.xml file. Maybe the problem only occurs is FSX is not installed on your computer, and I see you had a "dummy FSX" and not FSX itself on your computer. There was a problem with the CS777 for P3Dv2 that people had if FSX wasn't installed, but that was sorted out, so maybe that's was caused by a similar issue.

I think as a few of us have found with CS products, both P3D-ready and otherwise, make sure that you have simmconnect installed...

Thanks for the reply Mark, but I'm still a bit lost... Sad

Could you give some steps to get it working in P3D please?

Thanks Smiley

You just need to make sure that you add this entry:

     <Launch.Addon>
           <Name>Captain Sim 520 Menu</Name>
           <Disabled>False</Disabled>
           <Path>Captain_Sim\520\cs.sound.dll</Path>
     </Launch.Addon>

to P3Dv2 DLL.XML file.

Enter this %AppData%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 in the Run command and the folder will open. Make sure you open the DLL.XML file (I use Windows Notepad), and not a backed up version of the DLL.XML! Then add the entry directly above the last line in the file (which is </SimBase.Document>), then save it. With Vista, Win7 & Win8/8.1 you might need to run Notepad as an administrator to be able to save the modified DLL.XML file.

If you really get stuck, email your DLL.XML file to me and I will add it for you, and email it back to you so you can overwrite the original. Wink

I entered what you said into the DLL.XML, but the cockpit textures remain pitch black Sad I tried adding an entry for cs.panel.dll just to see if it would fix it (considering some other CS aircraft have that entry) but it didn't. I'll email the DLL.XML to you...

Thanks.

Okay. I just did a test with the CS B52 in P3D v2.4 and I got a CTD when I turned the Radar ON. When I restarted P3D v2.4, I received the message 'couldn't load the default flight', but the Create Scenario window opened (I have it set to always open when P3D v2.4 starts) with the F-22 started and at the default location (KLFI). My default flight is the Baron 5, cold and dark at YMML, PARKING 8 -- RAMP CARGO, so I selected LOAD from the menu and my default flight was there, but it had no Flight Title and no Flight Description (see image below)! Obviously using the B52 radar causes this to happen. I just recreated my default flight and saved it again. This is a very strange problem indeed! Undecided

Other than that, the B52 looks and flies well in P3D v2.4 for me. It was the first time in a long time since I had flown the BUFF. It was fun to do so again. Grin

Sorry for asking this here but I cannot open a new post:

Will the B-52 work in fsx steam, does it work with the installer?

It should. I think you need to point the installer to the FSX-SE folder, and after that, it should be fine. I don't think the ACE will work though, as I found this a problem with other CS aircraft I installed into FSX-SE, that do not have an option to install in there.

Recently bought the B-52 and installed it into P3Dv2.5 and as above, everything works great except the radar, I power it on and P3D crashes.  I realize that this is a FSX addon but there must be something that we can fix to get the radar working.

Anyone try the B-52 with P3D 3.2.3.16769 after installing with the latest Estonia Migration tool 3.2.0.1011?

I managed to get the 767Base with K-767 working fully with the ACE as well.

I too concur that the B-52 has the issue with the radar. Apart from that everything seems to work as intended. Any ideas as to what the radar issue is?

Error from event log:

Prepar3D.exe
   3.2.3.16769
   56df48ce
   unknown
   0.0.0.0
   00000000
   c0000005

   D:\Prepar3D v3\Prepar3D.exe
   unknown

This is with P3D 3.2.3.16769 and all simconnect.msi versions installed. What does the radar rely on file wise to run? Also have FSX Acceleration installed on same drive.
