FSX Military Missions with Captain Sim's FSX Weapon

First of all, I have to say that I'm very pleased with Captain Sim's FSX Weapon and I think is a really great Add on for the user who wishes to use fully functional Weapon Systems in FSX. Weapons appear at the moment of triggering them - not showing up under the Aircraft's pylons - but this does not reduce the fun of using them !...

For me the great Advantage of this weapon system solution over other weapon solutions in FSX right now, is that weapons can be used by any Aircraft or Helicopter (default fsx, freeware, payware) in FSX.. Another important advantage is that CS FSX Weapon can be used inside FSX Missions (not only in Free Flight) with all the advantages that derive from this feature (see below).

So I have built 2 FSX Military Missions that I'd like to share with you all, to use your weapons in them. They feature Carrier Operations with the CS_FA-18. I have added two Liveries (repaints) for this plane that I've found on the net ("Jolly Rogers" & "Fighting Omars") that you may choose to fly with, inside missions. The Ground Attack mission can be found in CS Liveries over here, but also both missions & details can be found in the Foreign Section of my Forum, here : http://341sqn.forumgreek.com/t71-topic

Video of the second mission (Interception) :

Feel free to post your feedback, questions, ideas either here or at the above mentioned forum.

After this introduction, I come to the matter that "hurts" any weapon solution in FSX right now:
We have the weapons but we don't have the targets for them !...

This huge gap comes the freeware FSX@War project to fullfill. It is expected to be released before the end of 2013 and adds a Mission & Battle Ground editor for the user to place Targets (SimObjects that can be locked and destroyed by CS FSX weapons) anywhere inside FSX's virtual environment !

But since then and for my personal taste for CS Weapons usage, I go in another similar to FSX@War way :

Video featuring Building destruction with CS Weapons (only in FSX Missions) :

Firstly I have gathered the targets for the Weapons. A target "mission pack" is available for you to download & install at the Forum mentioned above (Direct Download Link is this : http://www.mediafire.com/?e8fyfch0qvqhf18  ). Contains almost all available on the net SimObjects that CS Weapons can Lock & destroy, apart of the default FSX planes of course (Vehicles, tanks, Ships) :

SHIPS :
- cruiser
- destroyer
- ship
- Fletcher
- lcacx
TANKS :
- chall2
- M1A1
VEHICLES :
- HumVee
- UNIMOG
- fsxstlwr
Invisible Target :
-Orbx_BOB

Second, I have made a simple "BattleGround Editor" for the user who wishes to place ground & sea targets wherever he wants in FSX. In reality is an FSX Military Mission that you can edit. You may find it here also : http://341sqn.forumgreek.com/t66-topic

Third, I use fsx mission building to place my static & moving targets at my choice theater of Operations and also add a meaning and cause for my flying sortie. Thus combining the FSX Missions features with the use of CS Weapon, I achieve preciesly a very good FSX Combat experience (keeping in mind that FSX is not a native Combat Simulator but on the other hand, has all the world & all the planes to fly in it !!!...). But the possibilities are great both in Single & Multiplayer Mission playing... And with the coming of FSX@War, I will have a great variety of targets to add to my FSX Missions !... You may judge for yourselfe trying out the 2 above mentioned missions.

Video of a complex objectives FSX mission using also FS recorder tracks in the mission. Timing for the objectives here, is of absolute importance :

All of the above is the work of Xpel. I'm just creating a new topic for him.

Thank you Markoz for creating this new post for me, since I couldn't do it myself due to forum restrictions as I am a new member to this forum. All the above is the result of my attempt to Simulate Hellenic (Greek) AirForce - my Homeland's AirForce - with functional weapons in FSX (a project that I named HAFsx). Since I'm kind of "deep" in FSX mission building, CS FSX Weapon as an add on, fits & fullfils in an excellent way my project.

Here are the links for all three missions :

1. STRIKE AT LIBYA (Ground Attack) : http://www.mediafire.com/download/el2pwgbejxve8v5/CS_Weaps_Miss_f18.7z
2. STRIKE AT LIBYA (Interception) : http://www.mediafire.com/download/3gw8vhb9uy3pkgu/CS_Weaps_Miss_f18_II.7z
3. UFO INTERCEPTION : http://www.mediafire.com/?cnn6n6351z7nu86

First 2 missions (STRIKE at LIBYA) can also be found at CS Weapon Liveries, in Captain Sim's site.

Since I had a question from a forum member about AI targets, there is the "Know How" to convert any FSX SimObject to a Destructible Target for CS Weapons.

First of all : What is the phrase "if it's a true SimObject, it can be destroyed" refering to ?

Well, any plane, vehicle, ship, heli or even animal... etc that is "flyable" or "driveable" if you prefer in FSX, is a "true" Sim Object that can be locked & destroyed by any CS weapon. This simply means that can be tracked by CS Weapons as being an "Airplane".

All objects included in my "mission target pack" are of this category & can be flown or driven by selecting them in Free Flight ("Change Aircraft") cause FSX "understands" these objects as Aircafts, as mentioned above !.... An example of FSX SimObject converted into "true" SimObject (included in my targets pack) are U.S.S Fitzgerald & Port Royal, Cruiser & Destroyer accordingly.

Here is a video demonstrating the process in detail :

Up to this step, your Object can be locked by CS Weapons, have attached explosion effects after impact but cannot be destroyed. For this to happen (& be "drivable"), you must add Aircraft.cfg and an .air file. For the Humvee (see video below) I used the files from inside STALWART armed track (contained in "target pack") but can be used any :

Edit the Aircraft.cfg file to corresponding fields (for something recognisable), delete sim.cfg, and that's it. Now you can drive your object in Free Flight & is destructible by CS Weaps.

Another important thing to consider is that this way, your "Aircraft" SimObject can also be tracked by your plane's radar (if it's equiped with radar tracking AI Traffic). This is a great feature in missions, since player is guided to the Airborne or Ground targets using his Radar (and not the Red Labels) thus increasing immersion !...

So if you want to turn a certain FSX SimObject to a target for your weapons, this is how you can do it.
Here is a site with [b]lists of the fsx objects
that you can convert to "true" SimObjects (driveable in FSX) : http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/sceneobjects/

Make sure that you can locate these objects in FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes or Boats or GroundVehicles.
To place your objects, you will have to use my "simple mission editor".

Just for the fun of it, I converted the default FSX Humvee to a "true" simobject just yesterday & a video destroying it with a laser guided bomb is here :

This way you can have all the targets that you want for your CS Weapons. (and not just civilian airplanes as targets in your videos !...  Grin)

U.F.O Intereption Mission

I guess you all know the Default FSX Mission : High Altitude Intercept, concering a UFO Interception by FSX Acceleration F-18.

But what about a real Interception Mission using "real" weapons (CS) ?...

Though I spoil the surprise this Mission will be much more than just shooting down a UFO with CS Weapons. FSX Missions concern following Procedures & Instructions and that's what this mission will be about. Player will be guided towards UFO by Ground Control Interception officer, until reaches less than 80 miles from target - pick up distance of F-18 Radar for the target. Player will be tasked to Escort UFO in close distance waiting for further instructions. Virtual Pilot will be granted permission to open fire from Ground Control, not until UFO turns it's heading towards L.A. - USA & about 30 miles of it's coast... And that's not all...

Expect this mission to be available some time next week.

Nice. I have tried that mission about a dozen times, possibly more, but never successfully! Sad

I never thought to try it using Weapon for FSX! Smiley

I searched for this UFO in FSX/SimObjects to use in my mission but didn't find it. So if it's not there (thus not being a "true" simobject) may not be destructible. But it worths the effort for a test...

Quote:

Yes, because All people (including CS) think that CS Weapons are for FREE FLIGHT only. Or at least that Free flight is the way to go with these Weapons.

Truth is that only in FSX Missions this Add On can really "shine" , especially for the non-multiplayer type of user ! And Videos like this one below will no longer be just video effects but FSX's Military Missions with real Battlefield Environment ... :

But who is gonna build these missions (it's not for the hobbyist) and on the other hand is there an interest for such a thing ?...

I can't create missions very well. Sad

I have a copy of FSX Mission Editor FREE, but never really used it. I id experiment a little bit with it, as I did with the FSX Mission Creation Kit (from the FSX SDK), but never got any finished. Sad

It's very hard to gauge how popular the missions will be. I remember someone in the CS C-130 forum creating some, but not many seemed to be interested in them. I don't know what happened to him and the mission he created. Sad

UFO Interception (FSX Military Mission for CS Weapon)

This is how (in my opinion & personal taste) FSX Missions should be. This is also a Representative sample of how FSX Military Missions (with CS Weapon use) can be.

FSX Missions is about following procedures & instructions (as in the real thing) and this is what player should do :

- Preflight checklist
- Follow instructions of  No 1.

For the Mission to be challenging & Immersive, I strongly recomend to keep aircraft labels of and use your F-18 radar to locate UFO.

This mission version is for CS Weapon users only (mission cannot completed without usage of weapons cause if you cannot destroy UFO, this will eventually arrive over L.A. - USA and then mission fails. Also non CS Weapon users, luck some files used in this mission from CS). But I will make it available for non CS users also at some time.

Mission Background :
"An F-18 pilot recalls to his memory a special day that changed his thinking perspective of reality... That day, as No 2 of "Zulu" Flight of a pair of F-18s fighters, took off to recon & intercept an Unidentified Flying Object spotted by an Airliner 150 miles away of L.A. - USA coast."

DOWNLOAD LINK : http://www.mediafire.com/?cnn6n6351z7nu86

Due to luck of time, I have not embedded in mission more features that I would like (eg. moving or static Airliners, more external cameras during flight & maybe more music themes). But at some point, I will certainly add the feature of Random Mission Outcome (for replayability purposes) : A 25% chance that UFO will finally change it's course towards L.A. thus F-18 fighters will not be ordered to destroy UFO & just return to base.

Have Fun !

P.S. about the way AI F-18 behaves (trembling during flight - if it's annoying), you may keep a distance of 0.2 miles for not seeing it (staying in close formation is not critical in this mission, though is a mission challenge). This behaviour is present even in the default FSX F-18 missions and is plane dependant.

EDITED 20/11/2013 : 1.) IMPORTANT : the F-18 skin "Fighting Omars" has to be placed in CS_FA-18 & the Aircraft.cfg to be edited approprietally (not in Default FSX F-18 !!!). 2.)  Most probable reason for AI tremble, is due to the fact that it's WayPoints are far apart from each other (more than 5 miles). This shouldn't happen & I'll probably fix it at some time.

This mission is not hard to accomplish. Though you may use compass & pointer at most parts of the mission, is also designed to use F-18 radar (needed). This is a simple thing to do and also increases immersion...

Mission Walkthrough - Part I

Mission Walkthrough - Part II

Cause of luck of feedback, here are some tips for this mission :

- Give it some time during preflight check. FSX has a small delay in registering your actions.
- During engines check, don't exceed 50% throttle. Is not needed over 50% and you don't want your plane to move from it's position.
- Don't move your plane until No1 tells you to follow him.
- Staying in close formation during flight, is not obligatory for the mission.
- Use your radar to locate UFO & your CS Weapon infrared sensor (AIM9). Radar gives you target's (UFO) mach speed & altitude in feet (in video, UFO was at 7000 and my HUD said I was at 8000+. So turning upside down, I accomplished tally to target).
- At the moment that UFO "jumps in space", mission dissapears it & spawns a new one. Same thing happens for AI F-18 also. Thus for few moments, radar registers 4 targets on screen...
- After the above incident, take care to close at UFO in less than 3 - 4 minutes.
- During landing, AI will land almost at middle of runway. Make your approach idependantly, but you have to follow AI F-18 to parking area for the mission to be accomplished.

My comment : What this mission lucks to be a great one ?... A payware Aircraft & scenery... And a law poly AI F-18 that may wouldn't tremble in flight like this, "killing" some of the immersion.  Also I could have made the dialogs using the editvoice pack, but for over 40 .wavs that this mission has, it would take 2 more days (or more) just for this...

Has anybody tried any of the above 3 Military Missions ?... Any problems with the missions ?
I would really appreciate some feedback about good or not functionality of the missions in
different pc confogurations than mine & any comments or ideas.

I have tried the UFO mission. Never saw the UFO in the mission and there were no "instructions", only the option to select the mission using FLY NOW. When it opened, I was in the FA-18 on the ground with engines running, but there was no AI Wingman, and no mission instructions and no compass.

I double checked it and I believe I installed it as per the instructions, so I'm not sure what went wrong. I guess I should double check it. Undecided

Where do I go to download the other 2 missions?

Please use 7zip to unzip the mission. Maybe there was a corruption of download ?...
I tested downloading the mission from above link & it's OK.
For the UFO Interception mission, you unzip a folder named : UFO_FSX_MISSION.
Inside this folder you should see this :

As you see, there is Read Me with instructions...

Here are the links for all three missions :

1. STRIKE AT LIBYA (Ground Attack) : http://www.mediafire.com/download/el2pwgbejxve8v5/CS_Weaps_Miss_f18.7z
2. STRIKE AT LIBYA (Interception) : http://www.mediafire.com/download/3gw8vhb9uy3pkgu/CS_Weaps_Miss_f18_II.7z
3. UFO INTERCEPTION : http://www.mediafire.com/?cnn6n6351z7nu86

First 2 missions (STRIKE at LIBYA) can also be found at CS Weapon Liveries, in Captain Sim's site.

BTW, Captain Sim may feel free to add also the UFO Interception mission at Liveries.

Markoz, it seems that though you opened mission via FSX MISSIONS MENU, you flew it as a FREE Flight.
This happens when mission lucks even 1 element that mission needs to work properly. So you have not installed properly something of the contents of .7zip

This is how it appears in my Missions menu:

And there is no Mission compass /pointer, after pressing the "U" key, no AI wingman, nothing. If I just sit there, the only thing that happens is the passing of time:

I followed you instructions and that's all that happens. I double checked the instructions and did everything as instructed to do. Sad

Thank you for your test & time.
As I suspected, something is missing from your pc for the mission to run. I mean some element of the mission is not there. And it can be one of either : 3d ground crew, f-18 omar skin or the ufo. This is Free Flight, though you opened it from Missions Menu.

Only thing I can think of, is that you have not placed 3d ground crew in Add On scenery of FSX. (I mean the contents of texture & scenery folders found in folder "3d us ground crew", inside the corresponding folders of Add On Scenery).

Okay. Although I have done all that, I shall redo it all again. At one stage, I selected the ability to change the aircraft, but that was only after nothing happened the first time I tried.

I'll report back on how I go.

Edited:
Nov 18th, 2013 at 12:20pm - I've redone it all, but I still have the same problem. Sad

Ok man... Never mind. Maybe something is not included properly at the mission zip.
Whenever you have the time & mood, you may test some of the "Strike at Libya" missions
to see if you also have the same problem there. Since CS uploaded to it's Liveries, I guess there
is no problem with them.

Cheers !

I guess, I know what is wrong... My fault...  Sad

The F-18 skin "Omars", is not to be put in default F-18 but in CS_FA-18 !

That is : FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes/CS_FA-18/ here & that Aircraft.cfg has to
be edited accordinally...

After adding it to the FA-18, I also had to add Weapon to it as well, still without success, so I think you're right.
Now I shall add the livery to the CS_FA-18, and I will expect it to work fine. Grin

Hi Mark and Everybody,

It has been quit a while since my last post but I have been busy tinkering with FSX. I have a lot of irons in the fire including creating military missions that will be like a free flight but will have moving targets. Recently I purchased the Instant Mission maker from flight1. It is pretty easy to work with and can do a lot different things like creating air, water, and ground traffic. I have even been able to launch a cruise missile that explodes when it hits a target.
Captain Sim weapons has been one of the best things I have ever added to FSX, I have been using it for about 2 years. I am in the process of learning how to edit the xml so I can add other weapons as they become available. Perhaps one day I will attempt to create a new missile myself to add but that may be a ways off.
Today I downloaded and installed the Taurus missile and it works wonderfully well!!! I hope everyone is having fun with FSX and finding new places to explore.
Since  my last post I have made available a number of scenerys for FSX to the public. These can be found at    flightsim.com      Just do a search for my name......Dan Culver and I created awhile back some short film which can be seen at youtube, just look up hendrik3571.
I hope to be bringing some new and fun stuff the FSX as time goes on. Smiley

Hey !
What do you mean "including creating military missions that will be like a free flight but will have moving targets." ?... It sounds interesting. I also use IMM to create my missions. Can you give some more info about that ?

By the way, a video of Strike at Libya (Ground Attack) mission that may be downloaded from the liveries :

Hi All,

I have been building a mission to use with the Captain Sim weapons.
It is a military mission with a lot of AI fighter jets and moving ground targets. There is also missiles hitting ground targets.
There are no rewards. I am using the mission format so I can place the moving objects in the air and on the ground. It will be just like a free flight but with moving targets instead of just static objects to shoot at.
This will be my first mission using IMM. And I am hoping it will be a lot of fun. I have a few more things to finish up but I am hoping to make it available with in the next week or two. I will upload it to flightsim.com Smiley. When it is uploaded and ready for download I will post a message here to let you know.

I have finished a new mission that will go hand in hand with the payware captain Sim Weapons for FSX package. It will have air and ground targets as well as SAM and Scud missiles and other interesting stuff. This will be my first Mission release and it was created using the "Instant Mission Maker" program by Flight1. I am hoping to upload it here at flightsim.com tomorrow or Friday at the latest. It should be available sometime this coming week end for download. I hope it will be fun and exciting for those who install it. I am not a pro but learning as I go.
I have posted a few screen shots at flightsim.com. here is the link below.

SadAfter install. all correctly---FSX crashes to desktop at  mission-start. CSweapons work well in CS-F18 (freeflight) but not in other planes.
In FSX-aircraftpreview is only "armed" shown but no green icon and panel doesn't work in flight afte using CSweapon-loader.
Think weapons must be added to rq1 to make mission working ?
System: FSX+Acc-----other missions work well!

I have done a mission set in Korea in 1953.  It's set up for the Milviz F-86, but you can substitute any Weapon equipped airplane pretty easily.

Here's a link: http://fscaptain.net/downloads/Mission_1953.zip

Unzip to a temporary folder and copy the files to the appropriate folders inside FSX.  Fly the Intermediate level mission called "F86 Interdiction 21-MAY-53".

To substitute another airplane if you don't have the Milviz F-86 (it's excellent!) do this:

1.  After installing this mod - it has a modified Suwan airbase for you -- pick your airplane, set the time of day you want, and go to RKSW (Suwan) Parking 1.  Save your flight.

2.  Copy your saved flight (you can name it anything) from the "Flight Simulator X Files" folder in your documents folder to the folder "Missions\My Missions\F86 Interdiction 21-MAY-53".  It will be extension .FLT and there will be another file with the same name but extension .WX - copy that one too.

3.  Using Notepad, open the .FLT file you just copied, and go to the bottom.  There's a [resource path] section there.  Replace that with this:

[ResourcePath]
Path=.\Missions\My Missions\F86 Interdiction 21-MAY-53
[ObjectFile]
File=F86 Interdiction 21-MAY-53

4.  Delete the original flight files from the "Missions\My Missions\F86 Interdiction 21-MAY-53" folder:

F86 RKSW 21-MAY-53.FLT
F86 RKSW 21-MAY-53.WX

You will now by flying your airplane in this mission.  If you have a HUD - enjoy your super powers.  The F-86 Sabre by Milviz is more historically accurate.

This is a historically accurate and challenging mission!  Your primary task is interdiction against an armored column heading up the road to reinforce CCF forces attacking Little Nori.   That's hard enough.  But be watching for MIG incursions, and friendly F-86 ground strikes.  After taking out the column you can pursue the MIGs if you can find them, or use 500 pound bombs and your guns to provide CAS to the UN ground troops, but be careful to avoid blue-on-blue and be aware that the CCF side can shoot back.  The nearest emergency airfield is RKSD about 20 miles due south if you're hit.

Good luck!

Dutch

PS if you choose to use the Milviz F-86 here's a link to a document that will let you adapt Weapon to it in a historically accurate way: http://fscaptain.net/downloads/WeaponforF86.pdf

Thanks!  Let me know if you have any problems, this is sort of a beta, but really I'm just trying to share what I developed for my own fun.

A P-51 would be a great historically accurate airplane to substitute too, they were extensively used in Korea and probably got more ground kills that anything else.

I am having so much fun with this.  Testing it over and over I've gotten pretty good at it, handling the F-86, I'm beginning to realize why pilots loved it so.

My last run I took out all 7 tanks with rockets in just two passes.  Had two rockets left and decided to see what else I could get.   Found two T-34s at the bottom of Little Nori and miraculously took out both, one rocket each, then swung around for another pass and strafed the hell of another T-34 and left him smoking.

Then figured I'd better call it quits before I pushed my luck too far.  I've been hit twice before (it's rare but possible when you pass low over enemy armor.)  Once I had a fuel leak and the jet wouldn't develop past 70 percent power so I could barely climb and keep in it the air, but I managed to limp all the way back to Suwon and land.  Kind of a victory!

The other time they flat shot the engine out from under me, but I ditched in the river.  You can ditch an airplane in FSX and I managed to do it without crashing.  I had plenty of time to climb out and swim away before it sank.  (OPS would probably have preferred I eject -- they don't like an intact F-86 at the bottom of a river that could fall into enemy hands.  I wish you could eject that would be cool.)

Funny, when the jet sank, FSX crashed.  Oh well.

Ok man, here is a problem :
I installed mission alright but many users will not be able to install it.
Reason is they don't have a "My Missions" folder in their Missions.
Though I have, installation was not succesfull.

So I took the initiative, if you don't mind, and converted the .wx & .flt files to fit
the Military Category. I've made the files ready both for F-86 & fsx P-51. So users
only have to Copy/Paste the files in Mission Folder.
Mission folder, should now be placed in : FSX/Missions/Military/ here.
Mission can be found at Military - Intermidiate missions through FSX Menu.

Download Link for Mission files, here : https://app.box.com/s/0hnfq36wbbu6eti09i42

Another great plane that maybe should fit the Era, is T-28A "Trojan". Grab it here :
http://www.antsairplanes.com/ (it's free & it's excellent insideout !...)

To fit this plane in mission, follow procedure mentioned by mission creator.
Cheers !

Thanks Xpel.  I'm new to the whole missions thing.  I wonder where my "My Missions" folder came from?  Perhaps FSXME?

Anyway thanks for the correction.

Yes, FSXME. I use Instant Mission Maker, but I always do this, just to be sure...

Another note for FSX Mission building. It's better to add pointers in Missions (compass & +- pointer).
So every level of e-pilots can fly the mission. For example, though I fly FSX a lot, I've never used
navaids. So I don't know what to do with your instructions in briefing... Grin
I just flew North 5-10 degrees for some time ...
So, for me to fly this mission, means I have to read & learn how to use this navaid... Lips Sealed

Or use landmarks.  After you get north of Seoul you'll see a big river that abruptly ends.  The battle is right near where it ends.    You will see a fire and a column of smoke to mark the place once you get within about 15 miles of it.  Fly to the smoke.

Using the ADF is easy.  It's like an AM radio, tune it to the frequency of the one you want to fly to and fly in the direction the arrow points until it reverses when you fly over it. In the case of older types like in the F-86, fly so that the arrow points to zero.  The only problem is that the transmitters are low frequency and not as strong as VORs so they only broadcast about 30-40 miles.

Nice mission mate !
I flew it twice cause at first time I was shot down...
As I said, I used the P-51 with guns & rockets. I really had a good
time killing the bandits ! And the overall feeling of the mission was
of a good combat sortie... with both moving & static targets.

I would suggest make it default for native FSX P-51 (provide also files for F-86)
and upload it to CS Weapon Liveries as an addon for this...

Now just for discussion's sake :
- In my missions, if player has been hit, I use sound file of bullets striking the plane,
or even a cry "nuts ! I've been hit !" and as a failure, I preffere "engine fire", so that
player can see a visual effect of being hit...
- I had also the idea (recently) to make a second livery with some bullet holes & scratches
over plane's starting livery & after player has been hit, mission to perform an action of type
"change user aircraft to" the damaged livery plane (added in Aircraft.cfg also of course)...
But I have not tested this idea yet...  Wink
- About the FPS impact at target area : I think not much can be done due to many "aircraft"
type vehicles, though you didn't over do it ! Good machines will have no special problem
with your mission.

As a conclusion, as I have already said, this addon (CS Weapon), reveals it's full potential in
FSX Missions. It's a pitty that we don't have more mission makers with this interest...

Thanks for the kind words Xpel, glad you enjoyed it.  I don't see any performance hit at all, and I don't have a high end system.

I wanted to add sound whenever the aircraft was "hit" but I couldn't figure out how.

I use FSXME, and I have 7 "Random Choice" actions attached to a proximity trigger that goes off whenever you fly low over the battlefield.  Each Random has a low probability trigger (2 to 4 percent) and is attached to a particular failure like engine failure, fire, fuel leak, etc.  It's possible for more than one to fire but most likely on each pass none will.

How do I make a sound when one of these Random Choice actions fires?  The documentation says that if you attach more than one event to the Random Choice action it randomly chooses between them, it doesn't perform both of them.

I suppose I could insert some other trigger as a result of the Random Choice that would always fire, and attach two actions to that, one the failure and the other the sound.

Probably, that's the solution; bit of pain, do you have something easier?

I'll be glad to switch airplanes, could you share your CSWeapon.xml for the default P-51, or point me to a thread that has it?

Dutch

Sorry for the late reply.
"Attaching" a sound is really easy actually, but I use a different mission building program... Is that simple as this : next action after random choice action, should be a "say" or "play single sound action"... ie connected (referenced) to random action.

About P-51, I use the "classic" method for planes lacking a modeled HUD glass :
- Assign a button at FSX Controls for screen centering
- When time comes to this, hit that button & "light up hud" (Shift + 3, by default)
2D CS HUD is centered at screen center, which centers with pilots view as it must be...

Thanks for taking the time to work this mission out Dutch. I'm planning to use another period correct and free model, the ALPHA BLEU CIEL  F4U-7 Corsair, but having the CS Weps config for those that don't have the MV Sabre (yet!), the stock P-51 Racer would be a nice to have.

Agree Xpel, I need to find an easy mission maker interface for accurate military mission building.

FSX is crashing on both Libya missions, I do not even get as far as Markoz did to the cockpit. Re-downloading from the links given and will see if it was a corrupt file. I have just about all the repaints for both the FSX-A Hornet and CS Delta.

Great work still Xpel, I have your other missions for the Milviz, and really want to try my hand as accurate training missions. Are you using the payware Instant Mission Maker?

For those looking for military based missions that were designed prior to CS Weps, search for E. Olander who has made a few fun FSX missions that could use a rework with CS Weps.

-The skins (liveries) have to be added to the CS_f-18a, not the default FSX F-18 !
As also the Aircraft.cfg.
-Have you also installed the simobjects needed (like Nimitz, BOB, Stalwart, etc) ?

-Do you unzip with "7zip" ? This could also be a problem some times...

I'm currently finishing a Mission intended for Israeli F-4 or Mirage III at Golan Heights.
Available in few days...

Xpel,
Check on all, I have everything installed correctly and even test flew the repaints for the CS_F18 in free flight to make sure they worked.

Looking forward to your IAF missions. What program are you using to build the missions? If you need some flights recorded, running lastest FSX FSR.

As I wait for a new payware Tomcat to be released, looking to do some historically accurate F-14 missions (USN vs. Libya).

1. And Mission still crashes ?...

2. I use Instant Mission Maker. Most of any Mission part is made with this.
But I change xml code by hand to add abilities that IMM does not support in my missions or
for complex condition statements (there is no other way for this, anyway...).

3. Quote:

Well, if I decide to make a 2nd Aerial Combat type mission, I'll keep it in mind.

Though what would be really nice right now, would be for someone to fit CS Weapons at default Mirage III (v1.2) aiming croshair (there are 2 Israeli liveries for this plane : http://restauravia.fr/html/creations_fsx.html ).

It's a beautifull plane, inside-out & flies great & demanding.
I'll fit the Weapons myself anyway but in second time...

Hi Gilles.

Nowadays there are better tools for placing Ground, Naval and Air
targets :
Carrier & Convoy Planner (CCP) developed by FSX@War team, is such a tool that lets you place moving ground and/or ship convoys that follow your edited Waypoint route wherever in FSX World (both in Free Flight & FSX Missions).
Some new military vehicles are also provided !
Additionally, you are able of spawning on the Carrier that you may have placed somewhere, for naval operations.
Latest version added even AI airplanes flying following the Waypoints that you have designed, returning back to the first Wpt after reaching the last one...

Many possibilities and many targets !...

Just Google for FSX@War to download the latest CCP version from their site, as also find info & interesting staff at the forum.

PS : It works just fine with CS Weapons, in case you're wondering.

Hi Chris and Everybody...

I know CCP, its a wonderful tool to spawn moving objets. I don't know yet if it's able to place static objects comming from HAFsx_Targets&Objects zip file ?

So, I would like to "play" with Battelground editor to place simple object and make some tests with CSweapon missiles. If somebody has it, please send me a link or contact me by mp to have my email.

Thank you very much.

hello I downloaded the package Fsx Targets Objects zip file but do not know how to place objects that can destroy us senarios I want. I use instant scenery 3 but for that you need a bibilioteca with objects installed on fsx to appear on instant instant scenery 3

You can't destroy scenery objects !... They have to be Simobjects. I have provided a mission for this purpose (see above in this thread).

But !!! Recently I have discovered a really excellent program that you really have to try with CS Weapons !!!... I use it a lot with CS Weapons in Free Flight and FSX Missions (without any kind of F-18). In one word : I'm impressed by this !...

Google for FSX F18MT and just read the "Read me" to get an idea for what it can do !... In few words : Creates missions with SimObjects in Free Flight. Try it and just tell !...

I downloaded and tried F18 Moving Targets, but complicated to me and has few tutorials, I'd just like to put the targets of HAFsx_Targets & Objects zip at an airport of my choice, such as the USS Fitzgerald on a coast near VVDN, get the idea? how do I do that ?

I already downloaded CSBattleGround.zip and put it in my folder missions and did not see any target plane or tank, tutorial and photos for me does not explain much, you could make a case that works with the airport please VVDN? and would be easier for me to follow in his footsteps

Sorry. No time for this. Just take your time to understand the instructions. Not "rocket science" really...
