CS 757,767,777 Flare on autoland

Is there any way of improving the flare on auto land of above aircraft?I know it may be dependent on approach speeds, but it appears other devs aircrafts have somewhat more realistic flare presentations.
Any comments appreciated.

Not really much you can do. I did request this feature because it would be more realistic.

What I do, is I make sure I land at VREF+5 which gives me a softer landing.
Depending on what you've heard, you can either add 50% of the headwind speed or 100% of the headwind speed - i.e. Landing with a 10 knot headwind, use either VREF+5+5, or VREF+5+10.
VREF+5+5 will most likely give you the softer landing of the two.

Yes, I agree the flare is almost not there.

The flare on the real plane is not very large, but a lot more than the on in these planes.

In all the real auto lands I've done in both the 757 & 767 the idea is to not hold the plane off for a smooth landing, but to land on the target [1,000 foot point] and track the LOC and auto brake to a smooth stop. I have never seen the plane float if the V-ref is set correctly. Even in a crosswind, the plane slips to a landing and the flare is minimum depending on the sink rate.

Hi Ron,

I have bad news for others !
In these flight manuals, boeing says there is no flare over the runway
in any of these planes, period
The landing attitude is acquired at the treshold !

When I first got the 757, my autoland could compare to the landing of a pancake being flip in a frying pan, it did not bothered me that much because I enjoy doing manual landings but to keep current I have to do an autoland every 3 months !! Grin

I attacked this problem with two items in mind.  The Vref speed over the treshold and the balance of the aircraft at that point. Meaning the attitude.

There is a legal requirement for these aircrafts to land. They must have a stabilized approach under 1000. Full  landing cfg, gear, landing flaps.

3 conditions

Vref speed plus add on
proper flight path at the proper sink rate
at stabilized thrust

And these requirements must be maintained throughout the rest of the approach to be considered a stabilized aspproach.

This satisfied, work the balance of the aircraft to give you 1 or 2 degrees of nose up at the treshold. Look at your autoland from an outside view
There should a clear delay for the nose wheels to come down.
Play with the cargo weight, fore, aft until you have it. I do it in Aircraft.cfg
All these CS planes land great in autoland - mine do !!
Dont forget to carry a full reserve of fuel at landing. In the wing tanks.

Once you have the payload where it should be, lock it there for all the flights. Simple enough ? In CRZ the angle of attack is great, as you burn from the wing tanks the attitude will creep forward a bit and you are ready to land either manual or autoland

Happy landing !  Shocked

A little bit more on Vref + additive:

Approach speed/wind corrections - Autothottle on.

When using AT to touchdown, position command speed to Vref + 5.
Sufficient wind and gust protection is availalable with AT because AT adjusts the approach speed upward to account for the wind gusts actually faced during the approach.

Approach Speed/Wind Corrections- AT off     manual landing

The recommended method is to add  1/2 of the reported heading component plus the full gust increment above the steady wind for the reference speed.
The maximum command speed  should not exceed the lower of Vref + 20 or landing flap placard speed minus 5
This technique provides sufficient low speed maneuver margin and reduces the possibility of flap overload. The margin for flap overload may be increase by reducing the flap setting.

Happy landing  Grin

The 767/757 do flare during the landing using the radio altimeter height of around 45 feet.

Right out of the FHB:

At approximately 45 feet RA, the landing flare occurs. FLARE replaces G/S as the engaged pitch mode on the ADIs, and the auto-throttles go to idle. The autopilotcontrols the rate of descent to the runway touchdown based on radio altitude inputs. At approximately 5 feet RA, roll out guidance occurs. ROLL OUT replaces LOC as the engaged roll mode in thr ADIs. The wings are leveled, and rudder control is used to maintain RW centerline.

Lou, I fully agree with you.
I wrote the landing attitude is acquired at the treshold 50' - the flare.
there is no landing flare over the runway like in a manual landing

Thanks for the clarification and the details.
Nice to look at the color picture ! my manuals are plain.

Lou - I noticed your pfd screen capture is a bit stretched. Do you have WideViewAspect=True in your fsx config file? I have a 28" wide screen monitor and my gauges look distorted like that if I have it set to True, so I keep it at False and the gauges look more normal.

Cheesy

What happened was I just went on the CS web site and copied one of my old captures.
Here is a screen capture I just took.

First one must be after the 4th Manhattan!    Grin

The most recent one is, of course, perfect. Do you have the WideViewAspect=True or False in the config???
