New to FSX Weapons with a question
Apr 28th, 2013 at 6:17pm
Print Post
I downloaded FSX weapons successfully and have a question.  Am I able to see the load out on my aircraft.  I attempted firing the cannon on the FA 18 and it just continued to fire without stopping.  Couldn't see any weapons on the hard points.

Unfortunately not.

Do you mean that the firing stopped, but the sound didn't? If this is the case, you need to submit a ticket to support and a patch (or a link to the patch) will be issued to you. The patch is ONLY for those who's sounds go into a continuous loop and can only be got through submitting a ticket. Wink

Weapon for FSX, does not physically place hard points/weapons on the 3D models themselves. All you see are 3D rockets, missiles and bullets after the weapon has been fired, not before. Sad

I'm considering purchasing CSWeapons but had a couple of questions I hope you don't mind answering before I do:

What is the effect of the machine gun on the general FSX ground surface? Is there dust and bounce? I've viewed a lot of YTvideos, but hard to tell.

Are there different mods for machine bullets ground impact visuals/effects?

Is it possible to use the machine gun WITHOUT an aiming reticle displaying in the panel? In other words, can the visual -- the HUD's and other weapon aiming queues that are displayed in the panel, can the CSWeapon versions be turned OFF, while the weapons only still work? The reason for this question -- I have panels with existing HUDs and may what to keep use those.

What is the skill level required to create mods? Are any special skills required? or will a general level of FSX files, effects, config file authoring, or FSX SDK be enough?

I see from the reply below that there is no originating hardware (like rockets) displayed on the aircraft. OK. But then for the machine guns, can those emitter points be configured to be moved and placed? Like a Spitfire--it has guns as part of its model construction, so can I configure the gun flashes to exit from the gun object on the plane?

Thanks for the answers.

I am also having a problem: I installed the thing fine, and everything works. Many Beechcraft barons met their doom yesterday Wink. The panel works, the HUD works, it's great. hOWEVER: the is no missile contrails, or smoke and fire from hit aircraft, even on the ground! How can this be resolved?

Hellraiser 1000, it's best to install Weapon for FSX using the Run as administrator option if you are using Vista/Win7/Win8. This allows everything to be installed correctly. Also, IF FSX is installed in the default location (C:\Program Files etc.), it would also be wise to always run FSX as an administrator too, or else things may not work correctly (due to the restrictions that UAC has over that location). You could turn UAC OFF, but I don't recommend doing that.

To always run FSX as an administrator, got to the root FSX folder (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\) > Right click on fsx.exe > Select Properties > Select the Compatibility Tab > Checkmark (place a tick in the box beside) Run this program as an administrator (under Privilege Level).
After doing that, FSX will always be run as an administrator.

I would recommend that you don't install FSX in the default location (although that might be too late now) when using Vista/Win7/Win8, because of the strict control applied to them. It's better to install in, for example, C:\Flight Simulator X, or (as in my case) on another drive/partition (J:Flight Simulator X). Then you shouldn't have any problems with the UAC's strict control. I have one addon that doesn't work correctly unless I run FSX as an administrator. Wink

Since I'm unable to make a new post, I'll post here if is not a big problem...

FSX Military Missions with Captain Sim's FSX Weapon

First of all, I have to say that I'm very pleased with Captain Sim's FSX Weapon and I think is a really great Add on for the user who wishes to use fully functional Weapon Systems in FSX. Weapons appear at the moment of triggering them - not showing up under the Aircraft's pylons - but this does not reduce the fun of using them !...

For me the great Advantage of this weapon system solution over other weapon solutions in FSX right now, is that weapons can be used by any Aircraft or Helicopter (default fsx, freeware, payware) in FSX.. Another important advantage is that CS FSX Weapon can be used inside FSX Missions (not only in Free Flight) with all the advantages that derive from this feature (see below).

So I have built 2 FSX Military Missions that I'd like to share with you all, to use your weapons in them. They feature Carrier Operations with the CS_FA-18. I have added two Liveries (repaints) for this plane that I've found on the net ("Jolly Rogers" & "Fighting Omars") that you may choose to fly with, inside missions. The Ground Attack mission can be found in CS Liveries over here, but also both missions & details can be found in the Foreign Section of my Forum (google for : 341sqn forum).

Feel free to post your feedback, questions, ideas either here or at the above mentioned forum.

After this introduction, I come to the matter that "hurts" any weapon solution in FSX right now:
We have the weapons but we don't have the targets for them !...

This huge gap comes the freeware FSX@War project to fullfill. It is expected to be released before the end of 2013 and adds a Mission & Battle Ground editor for the user to place Targets (SimObjects that can be locked and destroyed by CS FSX weapons) anywhere inside FSX's virtual environment !

But since then and for my personal taste for CS Weapons usage, I go in another similar to FSX@War way :

Firstly I have gathered the targets for the Weapons. A target "mission pack" is available for you to download & install at the Forum mentioned above (sorry, I can't post links at this forum yet...) Contains almost all available on the net SimObjects that CS Weapons can Lock & destroy, apart of the default FSX planes of course (Vehicles, tanks, Ships)

Second, I have made a simple "BattleGround Editor" for the user who wishes to place ground & sea targets wherever he wants in FSX. In reality is an FSX Military Mission that you can edit. You may find it over there also. (Readme is in Greek, until I find the time for an english translation, but you may want to see what is about)

Third, I use fsx mission building to place my static & moving targets at my choice theater of Operations and also add a meaning and cause for my flying sortie. Thus combining the FSX Missions features with the use of CS Weapon, I achieve preciesly a very good FSX Combat experience (keeping in mind that FSX is not a native Combat Simulator but on the other hand, has all the world & all the planes to fly in it !!!...). But the possibilities are great both in Single & Multiplayer Mission playing... And with the coming of FSX@War, I will have a great variety of targets to add to my FSX Missions !...

Actually, you can enter the web addresses to your posts, but you can't add the hyperlinks ( ) to them. So we would need to copy and paste them into our browser. It would beat doing a search of Google.

Since I had a question about targets, I would like to share a "Know How" for whoever might be interested.

How to make "flyable", ie "Driveable" SimObjects (to serve as CS Weaps targets).

First of all : What is the phrase "if it's a true SimObject, it can be destroyed" refering to ?

Well, any plane, vehicle, ship, heli or even animal... etc that is "flyable" or "driveable" if you prefer in FSX, is a "true" Sim Object that can be locked & destroyed by any CS weapon. This simply means that can be tracked by CS Weapons as being an "Airplane".

All objects included in my "mission target pack" are of this category & can be flown or driven by selecting them in Free Flight ("Change Aircraft") cause FSX "understands" these objects as Aircafts, as mentioned above !.... An example of FSX SimObject converted into "true" SimObject (included in my targets pack) are U.S.S Fitzgerald & Port Royal, Cruiser & Destroyer accordingly.

How to make "flyable", ie "Driveable" any of the FSX SimObjects ("true" SimObjects):

Quote:
I made this Topic to show people How to make simobjects such as cars, boats and even Animals Flyable
heres how:
first you need to go to your fsx.cfg
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data \Microsoft\FSX\
is were it is located
After you opened your fsx.cfg find the line saying
User Objects=aeroplane, Helicopter
and replace it with this
User Objects=aeroplane, Helicopter, Boat, GroundVehicle, Animal
save and exit
Add a panel and sound to your Vehicle
now open the sim.cfg
and add
panel=
ui_manufacturer=FS VEHICLES
open fsx and enjoy

( Link of Quote - nzff(dot)org/forum/index(dot)php?showtopic=10434 )

Here is also a video demonstrating the process in detail : 3xw(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=AchCWoaxheA  - (replace (dot) with . )

So if you want to turn a certain FSX SimObject to a target for your weapons, this is how you can do it. Of course since in FSX except BMP & BTR all other objects are civilian, maybe is not much point to this. I didn't bother with this procedure too much (except converting a missile from free FSX Weapons pack4 to a flyable for some tests in a mission...), since my "Targets pack" covers most of my Military Targets "needs" in missions and also this job is already been doing by the guys developing FSX@War project.

Anyway, here is a site with lists of the objects that you can convert to "true" SimObjects (driveable in FSX) : lc0277(dot)gratisim(dot)fr/sceneobjects/

Make sure that you can locate these objects in FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes or Boats or GroundVehicles.
To place your objects, you will have to use the SDK Placement Tool (?...) or my "simple mission editor".

1) is it normal to not be able to drop  bombs because I see the switch for it?
2) I would like to build a mission with Mission & Battle Ground editor but when I open the read me, I do not have the pictures examples. (I tried with different computer and with a friend).
Is there a pdf or other?
Thanks. Smiley

No. Some mods for Weapon for FSX are available that make it appear like the bombs are dropping, but at this time, you can't drop bombs using bomb mode (INOP).
We are hoping that the capability to drop bomb will be included in the next update for Weapon for FSX

To get the free liveries (MODS in the case of Weapon for FSX) Check-in to Your Profile > Product (Weapon for FSX) > Get Free Liveries

2) I would like to build a mission with Mission & Battle Ground editor but when I open the read me, I do not have the pictures examples. (I tried with different computer and with a friend).
Is there a pdf or other?

Is this a problem with the Weapon for FSX manuals, or the Mission & Battle Ground editor readme.pdf?
In the manuals for Weapon for FSX, I can see the pictures/images examples included in the PDF files. Undecided

Hi,
Thanks for the fast reply. Smiley
I was intrigued by the bombs because I also saw the video with the corsair II who was dropping a LGB. Wink

It's with the tutorial Mission & Battle Ground editor that I have a problem.
When I go to the website page with the address you gave, I have all written explanations but no example images. Huh
I tried with my other computers and with the computer from a friend but it is the same problem.
Let me know if there is another tutorial in pdf or other...  Smiley
