Gauges have disappeared

Can anyone help with this problem?  Two days ago everything was great.  Since then I have not changed my FSX settings, nor installed any new software.  Then as of tonight, I can not see any gauges in my VC on the B707, nor does the Simicons panel show, or any other panels operated using the SHIFT key.  I can still fly and the flaps and gear work normally, but I'm flying blind, so to speak.

I have uninstalled the B707, downloaded the current application, re-installed twice but the problem remains.

Maybe someone can throw some light on this, please?

Thanks

When you uninstalled the 707, did you remove the registry entry for it as well? It sounds like your problems has something to do with the activation of the 707. Kb #685 explains what you need to do in the second part (you have already done the first part.

KB #685:

Q: How to reinstall a product?

A:
Quite a number of "issues" are caused by using of outdated version of a product. Prior to submitting a support request please make sure you have current version of a product.

To reinstall a product please perform the following steps in exact order:
Uninstall the product:
1. Go to Start> Programs> Captain Sim.
2. Select the product you wish to uninstall.
3. Click uninstall icon.

Install the product:
4. Make sure you have the latest version of the product
5. Run the product installer (the .exe file) and follow the prompts.
Please note: valid Order Number and Internet connection are required for installation/activation.

Please make sure you run the installation file as Administrator and that "User Account Control" is disabled (for Vista and Windows7), it limits admins ability to install programs.

If regular reinstall did not fix your problem you can try to clean registry.
Please be careful and do it on your own risk!

How to clean Registry:
1. Uninstall the product
2. Go to Start> Run. Type: regedit, click OK.
3. Find the product entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\ (please note, for Windows 64bit versions it is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\)
For example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\C130XPRO
Make sure you are going to delete correct folder!
4. Delete the product entry folder.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Install the product.

If you stil have issues and the above does not help we must admit your system configuration is a rare exception. You can try to install the product on another system or request a refund.

Thanks.  I have tried this process several times to no avail.  I still can not see gauges in the VC, but all systems seem to work correctly.  When pressing SHIFT+number keys to open the panels, they flash black quickly and then disappear.

the is the first time I've had any problem with the B707 since installing it over a year ago.  Are there any conflicts with other files or settings which I could check to resolve?

1) Your absolutely sure that you didn't update your graphics card drivers?
2) How about a Windows Update?  Tuesday is a day when MS releases weekly updates for Windows. This usually happens automatically unless you change the settings. Maybe one of those updates has caused the problem with the gauges?
3) Might your Anti Virus software have deleted an important file from the CS_B707-300 folder (possibly in the panel folder)? Check your Anti Virus Chest/Vault to see if it did.

check if FSX.CFG was changed or generated as brand new file. Its in that file permission to launch gauges located under [TRUSTED] section.

If something wrong there - you can end up with no gauges launched.
You can delete all 707 entries there, and select aircraft again. it'll ask for permission to launch gauges, and fix fsx.cfg

...being slightly slow here but have searched for a file called "fsx.cfg" and can't find anything.  Where is it located and is it called by any other name?  I read this fixed this problem for another user.  Thanks.

Check the folder C:\Users\Yourname\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX.

Note Yourname will be your actual name.
The fsx.cfg folder will be found by opening FSX.Open it with notepad and look for the [Trusted] section.
It may be quite large.Delete all  the relevant entries,e.g. for the 707, and save it ,then reinstall the 707.The FSX program should then rebuild your fsx.cfg file.Hope this helps.

Tnaks for all your help.  Having reloaded Service packs 1 & 2, and reinstalled the aircraft, all seems well again.  Smiley

If the gauges are not allowed to run, they can still be seen but don't do anything.
To remove the gauges altogether requires either removal of the gauges from FSX, by deletion or renaming their containing folder, or editing of the panel.cfg file.

I managed to achieve the same result as the OP by first saving a default flight using the 707 and then renaming the panel.cfg file to panelX.cfg, producing the same effect as deleting it or moving it from its correct location in FSX.
When I restarted, sure enough, there were no gauges or 2D panels.

I suspect this to be the cause of this particular error, if only out of academic interest, however it has been resolved in much the same way as buying a new car solves a punctured tyre on the old one.
