Purchased the Captain Sim Weapons pack for FSX a couple of days ago. It worked fine for first use, but next day when I came to use it again, it won't work !!!

I mainly use it on F18 and there is no Head up display, no ammunition and nothing I do will make it work. I used the loader tried it in Admin but still nothing. The file are all there and the loader icons even the weapon control panel.

I'm using this with Windows 8 on a new build machine. Any help or guidance would be really appreciated.

I tried running both FSX and loader in run as admin but unfortunately it still doesn't work. I've logged a case with captain sim so hopefully they will find a solution.

Knew I should have ordered my new machine with the Windows 7 upgrade rather than Windows 8 !!! really not impressed with that OS so far. It reminds me a lot of Vista.

The problem appears to be getting weapons to load. ie; I have all the switch functionality in the weapons panel, can throw switches, the digital displays showing weapon rounds are active, even have basic HUD now (no targeting function).

I have tried cycling the shift+7 to load weapons but nothing. I guess if I don't have weapons loaded then I can't fire them. Maybe this is the problem.

Tried contacting Captain Sim support, their standard response was the question has already been answered, but a search doesn't show anything in forums or knowledge base.

I checked for the CSweapon XML file in (FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_FA-18) and the XML file is in there !!!

This is a really strange problem.

Is it possible to delete the Weapons Pack and then reload it ? ie; will the captain sim site let me download the pack again with my order number ?

This might be the the easiest option for a fix. I think I read in one of your other posts that downloading the pack again shows an option to 'fix' and existing installation ?

I will install the Weapons pack again and see if that fixes the problem, then will post back what I find. Probably be Friday or Saturday before I have time to do that.

My FSX is installed in 'programs' I just allowed it to install in the usual 'program files' location. Does that cause some issues for some folks ? Why would it be beneficial to install it in another part of the drive, is it to stop conflict etc, or just ease of access.

Getting access to some of the file hierarchy in Windows 8 can be tough  - so different to W7 - that's another story.

I did have some problems installing FSX on the new Windows 8 machine. I installed it for 'this' user only and it never showed on that user's profile, only in the 'admin' profile, so it took some fiddling to make it work. Maybe I'll delete it and do a clean install, if that 'run as admin' doesn't work and if the Weapons pack still doesn't want to work after a re-install.

What location / folder would to recommend installing FSX too ?

Markoz, I deleted and installed a new copy of Weapons Pack and it's now working fine ! I don't understand how this would fix any issues because I believe the first version was installed correctly. Anyway a new install following your instructions in the post above appears to have fixed it.
