Hey guys,
So I have been building a new computer and just waiting for my GTX 670 to arrive before I can fire it up. I am using my old hard drive, and buying a new one. However, how can I move my FSX files onto a new one? If I do not move it across onto a bigger hard drive and retain my old hard rive for FSX, is this possible?
My old setup on the hard drive had FSX in the program files. Can I move it to C:/FSX? Or would it mess up the Captain Sim anti piracy?
My main concern is simply that I ran out of chances to revalidate my order numbers, so I cannot mess up registration and stuff. As CS planes are funny about registration particularly, I am slightly worried. Any help?
If so, thanks.
Pete

I would highly recommend doing a clean install of all your addons as it saves any complications with registry and copy protection issues.

If you run into activation issues with your CS addons just raise a support ticket for each one and they will sort it for you. They have been very quick to deal with mine Smiley

Im changing my motherboard and cpu this weekend i hope so i will be in the same boat with a fresh install of everything.

Actually, I just upgraded to Windows 7,and tried to do it the easy way,but ran into problems,so I went to a clean install which was tedious, but now FSX is running much better.I don't know if you save all your downloads, but I would certainly recommend it.Also,I hope you have receipts of all your purchases,as some suppliers use order numbers and register keys. Some suppliers are better than others and some will keep your records of purchases.CS and flightsimsto** are good with this,PHDG not so good.I always store my downloads either on DVD's or external disks and flash drives, because I don't want to pay extra fees for redownloading.
Anyway,Good luck and ask questions if you have problems.

I always reinstall FSX. But...I keep the modified files (panel.cfg and aircraft.cfg files) from my old FSX (in their correct folders/locations), but delete the rest. Then after installing FSX and addons, I then bring over the modified files. That way I don't have to redo all the modifications I have spent a lot of time on, which is time consuming (of course) and a right royal PITA!

Keep your logbook.bin file, found in (My) Documents\Flight Simulator X Files folder, as it has a record of all your flights. Wink

When reinstalling, what files will it overwrite?
I know it will do fsx.cfg, but I'll run the venetubo to get it back and I can optimise everything.
I am aware it will not touch the aircraft file. Or sccenery too much.
Pete
If anyone has experience on this I'd be happy to know.
I do not particularly care for the logbook. Sometimes I just fly because I can. Tongue

You spent almost $1100 for an FSX rig? The game is from 2007!  You should be able to run any game on that rig.  Grin

I'm pretty sure that if Windows has no "record" of FSX ever being installed (in the registry) that it will therefore act as if it has never been installed and so it will overwrite everything in the FSX folder.

If you already have an fsx.cfg file located in %AppData%\Microsoft\FSX it will not be overwritten. It is always best to start with an fsx.cfg that is created during the new installation of FSX. And, most importantly, the Bojote's tweaks for your old computer setup, will be very different to the new computer setup, so you definitely should redo it for the new setup.

That info was only given in case you wanted to keep a record of your flights. Mine logbook.bin has some 5600 hours of flight simming not including many that have been corrupted and removed when the file became corrupt. Early on, I used to just deleted it and let it build a new one, but now I use a logbook.bin repairer so I only lose a few. I recently lost the record of my 16+ hour flight from YMML to KLAX (CS777-200LR done last Sunday/Monday). S as you can see. I like to keep it.
I hate to think hour much more I would have if I had ALL my records of ALL flights from way back when I started with subLOGIC FS2.x for my Commodore 64 and all the way through to FSX on my current machine. Shocked

The card did not come. Have to wait another painful day.  Sad
Seems the P8Z77-V and the 3570K is the way to go for FSX. Like me!

If you are in the UK Pete you might have to wait till Monday as some company's wont deliver on Saturday unless you pay the extra. Did you phone the delivery company to find out what happened ?

Ive ordered my bits from scan and paid for Saturday delivery so fingers crossed i get a nice and early morning delivery so i can crack on with getting everything installed so i will be up and flying by the end of the day Smiley

Rather, I go to a boarding school. I had it posted at home, then had it relayed to me by my parents. Should arrive tomorrow then.
Yes, I am British and proud. Cool
Hope for the best.
