Those Boeing docs always speak about flaps 14 for takeoff. Only the go-around phase includes a small segment with a flaps 25 climbout. So my guess would be that those flaps 14 settings fit all cases. But one could guesstimate a subtraction value for a flaps 25 takeoff.

Still, I don't know if the plane is happy when you have high takeoff weights and the added drag of 25 in place.

Hi fsxpaul,

After two flights on a B707-300C (NZAA/YSSY and YSSY/YBCS), using "V-One" and "'Take Off Data Card", I'm glad to say it works very well. Congrats.

But let me put three comments:

1) One thing I've noticed is that [Fuel Used] only starts counting after [V1] be opened. Is it right? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

2) I've also noticed that "Take-off/Landing Data Card" shows the "Q" code for altimeter setting as [QHN]. Wouldn't be
[QNH] instead of [QHN]?

[QNH] - Barometric pressure adjusted to sea level, used up to 18,000 ft.
[QNE] - ISA standard pressure setting of 29.92 inHg or 1013.2 hPa/mbar, above FL180.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QNH
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QNE#cite_note-0

3) Before installing "V-One", to get M.80 @ FL300, thrust levers were adjusted at 72%. Now, it just need 63%. Did you ever notice that?

BTW, I've made a few modifications at icons window (panel.cfg) to allow to include [GPS] and [Kneeboard], besides [V1] and [Take Off Data Card]. Now it shows two columns, with six icons, each one.

Before take-off:

Before landing:

After landing:

Thanks,

Pinatubo.

Yes, the V-One gauge must be opened first before the 'fuel used' is calculated. Here's something you can try:
Immediately after the aircraft is loaded, switch to the 2D view (Shift + A). The 2D view has the V-One gauge already opened and the calculations will begin at that point. This works best if you load your aircraft in the 3D cockpit and with the engines running. You can also reset the 'fuel used' by clicking on the display.

I released the V-One gauge for the 727-100 over 3 months ago and I'm surprised that someone hasn't mentioned this typo by now! If you really want to correct this typo, you could carefully edit the BMP file and switch the 'N' & 'H' and then save. I say this only because I'm unsure when or if I'll be updating the gauge any time soon.

Yes, I am aware of the thrust change. The readme707.txt suggests the change to inlet_area=10.0 which in turn, provides more thrust. This was necessary to obtain the maximum optimum altitude. The 'real world' optimum altitude could not be achieved with the standard aircraft.cfg settings. Even after this additional thrust, the aircraft was still below the 'real world' optimum altitude by about 10,000 FT. This was the best performance / compromise I could get without making the 707 take-off like a rocket!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the V-One gauge!
Paul

Paul,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Don't worry about the typo. Mistakes do happen, independently of our will. You did an excellent work.

Done! Smiley

Paul,

Thank you, I just found this after I decided to reinstall a plane I flew as an F/E.

Everything works except I never seem to get the V1, etc speeds.

I load the flight, fuel. FP, etc and do get 0 fuel, and flap speeds, etc but no V1.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Make certain to open both gauges...V-One and DataCard. You can also switch to the 2D main window to activate the gauge. You must select/set your flaps before the Vspeeds are shown (the gauge only works with flaps 14). Also, please see the readme.txt file    Wink

You can get the V-One gauge for the 737 here: V-One Gauge for B737-200/Adv (Upgrade)

I think Lee's question was: 'Any plans to upgrade the 707?'

The answer is 'I'm working on it!'  Grin

Not sure when it'll be released though...

My bad. I misread Lee's post.  Embarrassed

Paul, that is what I was asking. I pretty much got the 737 on when I say the upgrade. Have been a bit inactiva as I was away on honeymoon.

I have an American Airlines manual for the 707 series; since these CaptSim 707 series are fan powered, their available flap settings have a couple of possibilities regarding the real aircraft's design.
However, for ANY -300 fan version, the AA manual says ONLY 14 degrees for takeoff. Other types use flaps 30 deg.

We must remember also, that -720's, which were different, had other flap settings.

The FAA certification sheets for 707s show these differences:

707-300 /400 (straight pipes):
10 - 20 - 30 - 50 deg

707-300B Series:
14 - 17 - 25 - 50 deg

707-300C Series (upgraded):
14 - 25 - 50 deg

707-300C Series (original):
14 - 17 - 25 - 50 deg (same as -300B)

One sometimes sees a reference to a Flaps 40 setting; I have seen some tech documents referring to an FAA approved change to lock these out. However, the paper trail on all this is vague, at best.

All these V-speed in Paul's program look VERY ACCURATE when compared to actual data that I have. My congrats on his excellent work!

Hope this helps
