Well I followed the install instructions for 1.71 but it says I already need to have 1.7 installed, which is impossible because attempting to do that causes the crash.

But I have found some more info about the errors i’m getting. Apparently “This app can’t open” is related to the Windows Store, and sure enough if I click on the windows store I get the same message about how it can’t be opened using “the Built-in Administrator account”

But I noticed in Safe Mode I can install the 777 without it crashing, so I installed 1.7, then the freighter expansion, and then did the 1.71 update. It all worked and, still in Safe Mode, I booted up FSX and sure enough everything worked fine. The aircraft was there and seemed to be having no issue.

But when I restarted my computer normally and went into FSX and selected the aircraft, it crashed! Immediately, as soon as I clicked on the aircraft.

I’m still completely stumped on what’s actually wrong here, why does it only work in Safe Mode?

Yes, your computer is perfectly fine for FSX, but the thing that bothers me, is that it's the Home edition of Windows 10 that you're using. Where do you have FSX installed?

It’s been almost 2 weeks since I bought this product and i’m still no closer to finding any kind of fix.

I’ve switched my entire attention towards getting a refund (I feel kind of bad since from what i’ve seen the people at Captain Sim make great products, it’s unfortunate that this particular one has been causing such a major issue for me).

simmarket, the people I purchased it from, are saying they will only grant me a refund if I get clearance from here.

"We are sorry but without Captainsim cleareance we can´t give you a refund. Please contact the developer and ask them for a refund and we will be glad to give it to you.”

But when I went to the Captain Sim refund section under account support, it said:

"Note: We can process Refund Requests for purchases made at Captain Sim Online Store only. For purchases made at our Partners and Affiliates sites (Flight 1, Simmarket etc) please contact the companies directly.”

So I don’t really know what to do...

Is there anyone here at Captain Sim I can speak to regarding this? (I don’t think this forum is the right place)

I'm really puzzled as to why you can't get the Captain Sim 777 to work, as you seem to have tried everything you can (with my help) to get it working, but it doesn't. It's a pity, but if it won't work, you deserve a refund. Sad

One more thing you should try, that just might work.

A full uninstall/reinstall of the 777 Base Pack, as per KB #685:

KB #685:

Q: How to reinstall a product?

A:
Quite a number of "issues" are caused by using of outdated version of a product. Prior to submitting a support request please make sure you have current version of a product.

To reinstall a product please perform the following steps in exact order:
Uninstall the product:
1. Go to Start> Programs> Captain Sim.
2. Select the product you wish to uninstall.
3. Click uninstall icon.

Install the product:
4. Make sure you have the latest version of the product
5. Run the product installer (the .exe file) and follow the prompts.
Please note: valid Order Number and Internet connection are required for installation/activation.

Please make sure you run the installation file as Administrator and that "User Account Control" is disabled (for Vista and Windows7), it limits admins ability to install programs.

If regular reinstall did not fix your problem you can try to clean registry.
Please be careful and do it on your own risk!

How to clean Registry:
1. Uninstall the product
2. Go to Start> Run. Type: regedit, click OK.
3. Find the product entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\ (please note, for Windows 64bit versions it is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\)
For example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\C130XPRO
Make sure you are going to delete correct folder!
4. Delete the product entry folder.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Install the product.

If you stil have issues and the above does not help we must admit your system configuration is a rare exception. You can try to install the product on another system or request a refund.

From: General / Download/Installation (QID 685)

You need to do everything below the line - If regular reinstall did not fix your problem you can try to clean registry.

And these are the folders you need to delete in the registry:

x770, and x772

And finally, this is the web link for a MANUAL OFFLINE ACTIVATION: www.captainsim.com/activ/offline.php

just in case you don't take note of it during the creating of the CODE text file needed for the activation.

I really hope that this just might do the trick, and get the 777 working for you.

Bit late to try that now, although I did already attempt a full uninstall and reinstall with no success.

I managed to get a refund from simmarket in the form of store credit. Not ideal but at least I can save it for the next time I want to purchase an add on.

Thanks for the help though, it’s a shame I couldn’t get it to work.

No Landing Gear Sounds
Print Post
Hi.  I posted this in the general category and was pointed to a KB article which recommended downloading and running the file dll-xml-cs-sound-fix.  This did not help.  I am running the latest 1.8 version.  All other flightdeck sounds like button and switch click sounds, flaps, etc all work fine.  The TS-Gearup and TS-Geardown files are where they should be, and everything else is nominal.

Thanks!

Thanks for checking.   I had a feeling I wasn't the only one.  I wonder what's wrong.

I'll check out the sound.cfg, as well as the sound files, to see if something is missing.
