V-One Gauge for B737-200/Adv w/Sounds (Updated)
May 20th, 2012 at 11:42pm
Print Post
This gauge is written specifically for Captain Sim's B737-200 and B737-200Adv aircraft (http://www.captainsim.com/products/x737/). It will inform you of appropriate take-off speeds (V-speeds), take-off trim units, Vref landing speeds, elapsed flight time, fuel used, optimum cruise altitude, optimum ERP setting and Maximum Climb Thrust (MCT). It will also indicate when the aircraft's gross weight has been exceeded and if an incorrect flap has been set. Take-off speeds are adjusted for altitude and temperature values. Provisions have been made to allow user adjustments to Optimum Altitude, Optimum EPR and Center of Gravity values. Flight time and fuel used can be reset at any time by clicking on their respective displays.
Audio Call-Outs include:
 • 80 knots
 • V1
 • Rotate
 • V2
 • Gear Up
 • Flaps Up
 • Slats Retract

Update includes KG, LB, °C and °F functionallity  Cool

These are now available in the Avsim library for download.

Both under catagory:
Flight Simulator X - Gauges

V-One gauge:
  V-One Gauge for B737-200/Adv with Call-outs

V-One gauge update:
  V-One Gauge for Boeing 737-200/Adv Update

Enjoy!

Thanks for the complement Mark!

It took me much longer to complete than I thought it would but it's finally done!

Now I can finally fly instead of writing code...I have over one hundred testing flights logged starting about a month ago!

Excellent work Paul!
Simply amazing.

Question:  I see you have 19,000 pounds of thrust for the -200.  Is there a way to lower that and still have the gauge work?

Sorry it hasn't worked for you yet.

Please ensure your installation resides in the directory as shown in the image below:

Also check your panel.cfg (try copy and paste as a test):
[Window Titles]
Window06=V-One
Window07=Take Off Data Card

[Window06]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=480,60
window_pos= 0.0, 0.055
position=0
visible=1
ident=130
gauge00=/V-One!V-One, 0,0,480,60

[Window07]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=225,280
window_pos= 0.0, 0.1
position=
visible=1
ident=10050
gauge00=/V-One!DataCard, 0,0,225,280

+1 - gauge shows and some values work but no V speeds - followed instructions exactly - will cross check again

Great stuff if I can get it to work!  Thanks Paul

Make sure and change your cockpit view at least once to the 2D view or the gauge will not work properly.

Also the vspeeds will not display until you select a flap  Wink

That did it - shifting to 2D once - all is good - you may be interested to know that just before seeing your gauge posted to Avsim I was thinking we either need a V-speed card and performance tables or a gauge that calculates these for us - and there it was!!  Mental telepathy??

Thanks again for your hard work and this great addition to CSs great model

If your installation was succesfull, you should have received a message for accepting the 'dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau' at FSX start-up (unless you already have it on your system).

Double check that you have dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau in your C:\..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Gauges folder.

Also you can check if your sounds are active if you select anywhere on the yellow text of the V-One gauge (must be right on the text) and you'll hear a chime.

Thanks Jerry.

The short answer to your question is yes you can.
The long answer is not without a bit of trial and error testing.

The only item effected by the thrust value (parasite_drag_scalar and induced_drag_scalar as well), will be the Optimum EPR display.
Every other aspect of the gauge will work as stated.

I intentionally put in variables to address your exact question as I knew many users have been tweaking their aircraft.cfg file.

I'd like to put together instructions on how to make changes to the Optimum EPR display using your current values as a test case (if you don't mind   Smiley), as many others may want to make the same adjustment.

Please let me know the values you're currently using for:
inlet_area
static_thrust
parasite_drag_scalar
induced_drag_scalar

Also would be helpful to know (but not necessary):
PAX and cargo weight, fuel load and approximate flight distance.
This will assist in achieving reproducible results as a cross check.

Thanks for your help.

Paul:

I'm may not be finished with my messing with the cgf.file yet, but here is what I'm playing with now:

Para drag = 1.0
Induced drag = 1.0
Inlet = 9.4
static thrust = 15,000

For the -200 (no ADV yet)

Thanks a bunch!

Here are instructions on how to change the Opt EPR display for the V-One gauge to match the 737 EPR gauge.

1. Get into a level flight at the recommended Opt Alt, 32,200 in example.
2. Maintain a stable cruise speed of M.728
3. Note difference between Opt EPR display and 737 EPR gauge.
    Example: 2.078 - 1.889 = 0.189
4. Edit the appropriate v-one.xml file (right mouse click on filename, then choose 'Edit'. Do not choose 'Open').
5. In section 'Initial Vars' towards the bottom of the file, change the following:
    FROM: 0.0 (>L:OptEprOffset,number )
    TO: 0.189 (>L:OptEprOffset,number )
6. Save your changes.

That's all there is to it!

I had a problem getting things to work too and got this reply from Paul which fixed everyting:

Make sure and change your cockpit view at least once to the 2D view or the gauge will not work properly.

Also the vspeeds will not display until you select a flap

Try that and see if it helps

I have it installed on the C/F and it seems to work fine.

The gauge was never designed for the -100 though.

I think that because the -200, -200ADV, -200C and -200F are all nearly identical in performance, so it should work fine in them. But the 737-100 is different, so I think the V-One Gauge would need to be modified to get it to work properly.

My 2 bobs worth. Wink
