Hdg bug setting digits

I've seen in a full flight 737-200 simulator that the heading bug had a readout on the ADI just as the course selector has on the CS737 ADI gauge.
This would be a nice feature and also alot easier to set a more precise heading.

It would be nice.

Out of curiosity, where was it displayed on the ADI in the 737-200 simulator that you saw it in?

You have the course selector up in the right corner and heading is in the upper left corner.

On the ADI? There is DME in the left corner, and course in the right corner, on the HSI.

I think he's suggesting a thing, not ordering.  Smiley The DME readings are currently doubled as you have two big digit DME readouts on the lower part of the panel, so the one HSI spot could be used to give a digital reading of the heading.

Not my wish, but reasonable with the DME gauge situation in mind.

Anything that is redundant in the cockpit is done so for a reason. You absolutely need DME for the active VOR, so a backup readout is good to have. You do not absolutely need to a digital readout to tell you what the HSI heading bug is already displaying.
I'm not arguing or anything just sharing some thoughts.

In that sense, the CDI needle or the course readout (digital) is redundant too. But I think he's suggesting the hdg readout because the small bug is hard to read due to the actual size and the distance to the number ring.

But, hey, not my suggestion. I'm ok with the current setup and I also think that it's the most genuine one. I'm more concerned about the gauge refresh rates, giving me a sort of stuttering impression on e.g. the altimeter. The artwork and setup of the gauges itself is amazing though.

I must admit that I think, but I am not sure, that he is confusing the ADI with the HSI, but he has not made another reply to correct this info. I can't see how it could be fitted to the ADI in any case, nor would I expect to see it there. The HSI would be the logical place to have it and so it becomes a case of replace the DME with the Heading Bug setting, or not.

For me. I would like to see a ToolTip added to the HSI Heading Selector knob, that way I know if I have set it to the setting I want. I find I am off by 1-2 degrees most of the time. Wink

I think a tooltip would be the optimal solution. Doesn't spoil the authentic layout and helps the folks with the weak eyes or shaking hands or rumbling cockpits or the distracting stewardesses.  Cheesy Thumbs up on Mark's suggestion!

Thanks! You make it sound like I'm old! So, I'll take the distracting stewardesses excuse.

Wait! I am old! I forgot. Embarrassed

Hi there
Not the ADi sorry I meant the HSI
In the cockpit that I have been to there was a reading on the HSI with the heading that you set with the heading bug. Maybe the position on the HSI was not in the upper left hand corner where normally the DME readout is. I will try to get an image of the HSI from the sim where I once flew.

Just a nice feature on my behalf. maybe just a simulator HSI which not was fitted on the real aircraft?

Have a nice weekend guys

regards
Mikael

Sorry but I have to ask this question. What regards do you need to set a heading to be precise number? ATC usually give out headings in a round 10 degree numbers. IE DAL215, turn right heading 210. In real life, I have never got an ATC request to turn to a heading of 278 or 123. Not sure why anyone would need a precise heading, it's not the same a setting a course.

He just wants to dial in any heading precisely I think. With Mark's suggestion, this should be possible.

Still trying to get hold of a picture of the HSI.
Just think this would be a neat feature as the CS737 is operated single pilot in the sim and maybe time need to be spent watching other systems/procedures and this would be a nice help.

Nice flights!

Mikael
