Installation problem

Hello,

I'm having the hardest time trying to get the CS767 (as well as all of my CaptainSim products) to install on my computer. The computer I have is a Gateway DX4831 (I believe) running Windows 7 64. When I install, I get an error that says that the installer can't connect to the server. I've tried to run the product in admin mode, have turned UAC off, turned off antivirus and firewalls, ran in the installer in compatibility mode, and still cannot manage to get the problem installed. I've submitted a ticket, and wasn't able to get a resolution there as well. The crazy thing about all of this is...the installer works and will install the products on my other computers that don't run FSX (1 used to be my FSX computer before I got a more capable one). The Gateway computer (my FSX computer) also won't generate the offline install key. Has anyone had this problem, or can anyone think of something I should try to get these programs to finally install? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Trent Shoemaker

Hi Trent

Were the files you are using downloaded directly to the computer you are trying to install the CS products onto, or did you download them on an old computer and are now trying to install them on your new one? If you are, you could be having file "ownership" problems (your user account on the new computer is not the owner of the files). I recommend that you use the Extended Download Service and download all you Captain Sim products, and install them from the newly downloaded files.

If you know how to take ownership of the files, you could try that too.

Notice that the owner of the file, in the image above, my user name (Mark/Markoz). I downloaded it using a previous installation of Windows 7 (I had to reinstall Windows 7) and I have not yet taken ownership of it. Windows 7 does not know who the the owner IS, but it believes that someone else owns it.

Check-in to Your Profile > Product > Extended Download Service > Get New Links

Hope this helps

Mark

Thanks for the reply and assistance Mark,

I downloaded the files from my account using the extended download, changed ownership on the older files, and I'm still not getting the product to install. I'm attaching a screenshot of what the installer says after you enter the order number for the instant online activation. Offline activation doesn't seem to work either...I get "Error 02: Internal Server Error" that shows up. I don't have any problems activating other products online, so I've ruled out the internet connection as a potential source of the problem (and all products will install on my other computer). It only seems to be on this particular machine...not sure why none of my products will install on here.

(Edit: was trying to use the 777 installer this time, since that product has never been activated...same result as the 767).

Try installing it again. When you see that message, select the "Run system test and report an issue to Captain Sim", then press next. Follow all the instructions. Hopefully Captain Sim can find out what is happening and let you know how to sort it out.
I've never seen or had that kind of error myself, so I can't help you beyond that without seeing what you need to do to complete it. Sad

Edit: Click on and download the FS Registry Repair tool, run it, and then try to install your Captain Sim products again. Maybe your registry's path for FSX is corrupt. I doubt that it is, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the replies...

I ran the installer (with firewall and anti-virus turned off), and did the system report as suggested. I'm not sure if that worked either, since the installer says safe the .nfo file on your computer, then submit. The installer didn't generate a system test file for me to send. I also did the FSX registry repair, and that didn't seem to fix the problem either. Seems like the usual fixes aren't having any luck.  Sad
