2 stops with FSX - How?
Feb 4th, 2012 at 5:58pm
Print Post
For the first time I tried to work out a 2 stop flight with 2 flightplans ready to execute - all worked fine until I had to load the second plan on the way to the final airport. I simply couldn't get FSX ATC out of "Parking mode" and on to the ILS clearance.
How do you guys handle this..?  Embarrassed

Sorry Morten. But I've never tried to do a flight like that. Sad

Hi Morten.

Did you create two separate Flight Plans (in FS Flight Planner)? Load the first one for the first leg of the flight, and once finished, load the second leg of the flight.

Hi Morten,

If you are flying from A to B (Route 1) and from B to C (Route 2) and you have every intention of landing at B then you cannot load Route 2 into your FMC until you have landed, applied your parking brake and if needed shut down engines.

As CoolP stated, get rid of ATC.

In the real plane, if you land you need to start a new flight.

*Re-start the IRS
*Re-load second flight plan

If you don't land, and divert to an alternate you can either use ROUTE 2
or put in the new destination in the current route page by doing a DIR INT and adding the alternate route.

ROUTE 2 is better since it can be pre-built and ready to go when needed.

I'm not, at all, referring to loading plans into the FMC! - The problem is about not being able to load a second Flightplan into FSX itself!

As for the FSX ATC, I intend to keep it as it is, as I'm generally pretty satisfied with it - or at least I haven't yet met any convincing alternative to it! - beside online ATC, that is.

What happens if you open the flight planner and load a new plan? I'm pretty sure I've loaded more than one on the planes which import those FSX plans to their FMC. Means I flew the first one (without ATC though), landed and then opened the flight planner again and loaded the next file.

Ah, I've read the initial post again.

Don't know, change to VFR and then back to IFR again. Doesn't that work?

I remember that I did a second flight with one of my advanced airliners, one that had an FMC. I thought was the Captain Sim 757 or 767 aircraft, but I am not totally sure. The first flight was fine (MEL to SYD), but on the second flight (SYD to BNE), the MCP was acting up and it took a lot of messing around to try to get it working. I never got it working correctly so I quit the flight. I got the impression that it thought it was doing a GO AROUND rather than a new flight with a new Flight Plan. Sad

Exactly!!!

However, as Mark write, that he ALSO experienced problems with the FMS during such phase, I might as well give the whole thing up!
That is, load a new flight with the same plane, from the same gate and "just" start all over from there.  Tongue

IF I use the ATC and it tells me to contact Ground after exiting the runway, the choices I get after exiting the runway and tuning into Ground are

1. Request Taxi to Gates
2. Request Taxi to Parking
3. [Taxi for Takeoff Options]

So I often never contact ground. I just go to the gate I want, and then later request Taxi instructions for takeoff.

AHA!! Yes off course! No need for that. The solution!

Okay then, that leave us with only one obstacle left, the FMS.
I've not tried yet - but from the gate can't I just execute RTE2 into the FMS, if I actually loaded both RTE1 and RTE2 into the FMS at the beginning of the trip..??!!

That's the part that puzzles me, Morten. I can't recall a problem importing two or even five routes into the FSX flight planner and then using the plane's import feature to get a current plan every time I need it. I even run some software which sort of live streams plans into FSX (leads to an updated plan without ever going into FSX menus) and it works. No need to trick with RTE1 and RTE2 in my eyes.

So, sorry for asking stupid, but what happens if you've finished your first flight, park at the gate, access the FSX flight planner, load another plan and import it into the FMC? That should work.  Huh
