Here's a plane I saw at an air race not to long ago.

Just today (August 20) I was at my local airshow, the Camarillo Airshow, and saw the coolest plane fly (in person) the second time.

Thats right, the Northrop N-9M, Flying Wing. Such a bizzare, cool, beautiful, and jaw-droppingly amazing aircraft. Hard to believe just a wing can perform the work of not one, but three axis.

Enjoy!

Ahhh. The Rutan LongEZ. I first found out about this aircraft back in the early 80's, on a show called Beyond 2000 (I have two books covering ta couple of seasons including the episode of the LongEZ). It was my favourite plane and I wanted one so much. Then, in 1985, I got to see one live and up close at Moorabbin (YMMB). It was owned by a policeman.

John Denver was flying Rutan LongEZ that crashed. He was killed in the accident. Sad

No offense Markoz

I hate the LongEz. What a stupid looking, ill designed airplane. WHy can't you make it so that the nosewheel can be deployed all teh time to get in?? Rutan thinks he's so great because he can do all this stuff, some of his things are pure hideous.

He was bragging about Spaceship One, and an Apollo astronaut said, "that's great, now you just need to go 16 times faster to get into orbit!"

When I was at the airport, My dad, a few other people, and myself, were looking at it confused. We were thinking "How would something like this work" but later on we found out. Smiley

I didn't know that a good flying wing aircraft had ever been made. I knew there had been many experiments with it, but they always seemed to have some flaw. (Though I think there was a plane in the x plane series that worked pretty well.)

Oh, yeah. I guess that is a flying wing (duh!). It looks a bit different from most flying wings, though (it seems to have wings, but I suppose those don't count).

And that duck has to be the strangest photoshopped aircraft I've ever seen.

Ugh! That plane looks like it got stuck in a blender. A horrible excuse for an airplane company.  Tongue

A difference of opinion Peter. I still love the Long EZ. Nothing you say can change that. Burt Rutan IS a brilliant designer, it's just too bad you don't like the looks.

I put it this way. I would love to own and drive a Porsche 911 Carrera. I love it's looks and performance. But I hate the look (not the performance) of the Porsche Boxer so would never want buy one. The same can apply to an aircraft. You can love it or hate it on it's looks alone. Wink

Markoz, tehre is a reason that you can't buy a factory-built LongEz, or buy a kit for one. Rutan build somethign that could be like a Baron, and travel faster, yet there's a reason why I can still buy a Baron, but not a Boomerang. Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done..
