I can't engage my auto pilot on my 767-300 after take off.

What do i need to do differently from normal A/C?

I have the same problem trying to get the autopilot to engage.

I went to your link and it seems like it's only about the FMC.

The 767 manual explains what each autopilot switch does but does not explain how to use the autopilot.

Is there a simple way to use the autopilot or do you have to setup the FMC first ?

And where can I read about learning all this?

If you don't program the FMC, LNAV and VNAV are unable to be used. You need to use the A/P like a normal one:

SPEED HOLD (IAS or MACH), ALT HOLD, VS (for the climb and descent phase), HDG Hold or LOC for tracking VOR. Program the FMC and it does most of the rest for you.

The FMC and the Autopilot are a team that work well together for all stages of the flight. At the Top of Descent (TD or TOD), the aircraft will descend at a nice rate and it will (or at least should) be at the correct altitude at the time you need to press LOC to capture the ILS localizer and then APP to capture and track the localizer AND Glide Slope. Also. By using the FMC you can do an AUTOLAND which upon landing, cuts the throttle and flares the aircraft so it gently touches down. Without the FMC, you will need to turn off the Auto Throttle or the aircraft will not let you put the reversers on to slow down. I have done enough flights where the aircraft has refused to stop and races of the end of the runway, into the bushes while I try to figure out why my reversers are not working!

Because of the similarity between the 757 and 767, I recommend you do the FMC tutorial (for the 757) using the 767 instead. You can find it here: http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1220997876. It will open a whole new way of flying for you.

I  only started learning to fly the "Heavies" in early 2009 and it opened a whole new experience to flying that I never knew existed. I'm just mad at myself that it took me years of flight simming (I started in late 1983) to start flying them. Admittedly the early versions of Flight Simulator, were GA only, but when they first showed up, I was only interested in GA flying and wouldn't touch them.

I still love flying GA, I own a whole bunch of GA add-ons for FSX, but I also love flying the Heavies now and I fly them the most.

Try doing this:

Go here http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html and get the latest version of FSUIPC if you don't already have it.

Go to  the FSX\Modules folder and delete the following:

FSUIPC Documents (the folder and all its contents)
FSUIPC Install (text file)
FSUIPC4.DLL

If you have a registered version, you can leave the KEY (FSUIPC4.reg) file there and get FSUIPC to check current registration to use it when installing FSUIPC 4.XX
If you remove the FSUIPC.reg, you will need to add your registration details again when you get back into FSX.

Those are all the main files needed to have a working FSUIPC. Once they are removed you need to remove the FSUIPC entry in the DLL.xml file.
To access that file, press START then click Run (keyboard shortcut is WindowsKey+R) and enter the following: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX
A folder will open, look for the DLL.xml file make a backup copy of it before you start removing things from within it. You can always delete the messed up one and use the backup so everything in FSX will work.

Remove the following lines:

<Launch.Addon>
     <Name>FSUIPC 4</Name>
     <Disabled>False</Disabled>
     <Path>Modules\FSUIPC4.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

Once done, save the DLL.xml and close it. Reinstall FSUIPC4.
If you are using Vista or Windows 7, make sure you run the file as an administrator. That means extract it from within the ZIP file, right click on "Install FSUIPC4.exe" and select the "Run as administrator" from list that pops up.

NOTE: I know of one person who has done all of the above "fixes" and his 767 is flying as it should. His words in an email to me: everything works marvelously the plane behaves again correctly and carefree..

Hi oskiatl.

If you are using the the latest Captain Sim 767, version 1.5, then what I have described above will not make any difference to the problems you are having with it. The 767 v1.5 does not need FSUIPC to be installed like it was for v1.0 through v1.4.

Give this a try:

1) Make sure FSX is shut down.
2) a) Vista/Win7 - Go to Documents\Flight Simulator X Files. b) WinXP - Go to My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files
3) Find the 3 *767-300 Captain Cleared for takeoff (KSEA) files. The file extensions are .FLT, .FSSAVE & .WX.
4) Double LEFT mouse click on the 767-300 Captain Cleared for takeoff (KSEA).FSSAVE so that it runs FSX and goes straight into the 767-300 Captain Cleared for takeoff (KSEA) flight without going through the FSX opening screen.

The idea of doing this is to see if it will work like it should by avoiding you default FSX flight. IF it works properly, you will at least have found a way to avoid the problem.

*767-300 Captain Cold-n-Dark (KSEA) could be worth trying as well. The only difference is that you have to get everything setup from the beginning. Just do a test flight from KSEA to somewhere and see if it performs fine, or not.

Out of curiosity, are you seeing the IAS/MACH Indicator displaying 000 and the Altitude Indicator displaying 00000? I have this happen this quite often when I load my CS767. If I do get it, then the 767 will not perform like it should (some buttons or switches don't work at all).
If you are, just reload the 767 using Alt > Aircraft > Select Aircraft > ENTER (to select the current aircraft).

Try watching this tutorial on how to program the FMC or CDU (same thing)....  It significantly helped me understand how to navigate around FMC and program full flights using A/P!  After programming a couple flights into your CDU/FMC, you eventually get the hang of it and it becomes second nature on how to program your flights everytime!

This tutorial is slightly unrealistic from real life planning, but very similar to! Hope this helps!!

Yeah. I understand what you are trying to achieve and I really hope you can work it out.

With my link, I now wish I had included the Forum Topic of the reply I'm referring to, because it would be a lot easier to find if I had done so (Phew. That's a mouthful!). From now on, that's exactly what I'm going to do. IF I remember to do it!
