Screen Resolution

I have a question about Screen Resolutions.  My native resolution for my monitor is 1680x1050 which gives me amazing quality, but seems to "squish" my aircraft.  The resolution I am currently using is 1152x864 which isn't as clear, but it is good and doesn't squish the aircraft.  I have tried the "Wideangleview=True" in the FSX config but that only seems to give me a wider pan of the scenery and doesn't really affect the aircraft.  Anyone have any suggestions on what they are doing and maybe i'm so used to seeing 1152x864 that when i change to 1680x1050, it just looks squish because i'm not used to looking at it, but i don't know, it does look a little funny.  I tried to post screenshots but for some reason, the aircraft looks exactly the same in both pictures of the different resolutions i took.  Any ideas?

It could be that the only solution to actually help you is a screenshot of the scene with "squished" aircraft.
Changing the resolution affects the whole picture, so it should affect all objects in FSX then.

Running the native resolution is the way to go though and should lead to a normal appearing sim.
The only downside with a widescreen setup are some 2D panels which weren't developed for that aspect ratio, but all 3D objects should be fine since they get adjusted to your screen then.

Are you running in windowed mode or fullscreen?
Windowed with a maximized window always forces the sim resolution to fit to that window, so you will get a picture fitting to the native resolution of your screen if Windows itself is running at 1680x1050.
Fullscreen mode is a different beast, you can force any other resolution there and the interpolation of your screen does the rest, sometimes leading to strange looking things.

Open your FSX.cfg with notepad. Scroll down until you find [Display]. Add the following line below it:
WideViewAspect=True

That should make it look better (not squished).

To locate FSX.cfg, press the WINDOWS key+R (the windows key is the key between CTRL and ALT on the left side of the keyboard) and paste this %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.cfg into the box, press OK. This will find and open FSX.cfg for you.

Unable to post screenshots because of size restrictions on attachments.  is it possible i can email them to one of you?  I'm starting to think that i've been using the wrong resolution all along which stretched the aircraft and now that i'm using the correct one, they just look squish.

Sure. Email it to me, I'll then upload it to Photobucket, past the link in here for all to see it. Wink

OK. I got them.

Here is how they look:

They look fine to me. Both images are 1680 x 1050 in size, which should allow them to look normal if that is the resolution your screen is set to. Did you make the changes in the fsx.cfg as I said to in my first reply? If you haven't done that yet, I'm sure that will make them look good (not sqished).

They also look perfectly fine to me. The only problem I can see is that they appear to be ready to take off on a gravel path!!  Wink

funny thing is after i took those screenshots, i tried to takeoff with the 767 to see if i could do it.  the only good thing is that the runway is now about 5000 ft longer as I have cleared a path in the trees.  Bad news is there is apparently a body of water past the trees and for those who may not know, the 767 is a terrible boat.

As for the resolution, I'm glad that there seems to be nothing wrong and its only in my head.  I was telling Markoz that I've been using the wrong resolution all along which stretched the aircraft and i did'nt realize it until i used the correct native one and once they appeared normal, they looked squish to me.  I'm certain now that was my problem.
