Emergency ocean landing
Jun 6th, 2011 at 4:30am
Print Post
Over Atlantic ocean, close 150 miles to JFK Airport at 3000ft. I lost number one.  Angry Problem was sudden leak at fuel tank. I had  good fuel for number two and three. I shut down number one  . Two engine were sufficient to land at JFK airport....But..suddenly with out any warning number two and three engines were also lost. Shocked Shocked Shocked I tried to start them. no success. I started APU. by now , another major additional problem developed, I lost  rudder and ailerons partially and I was fighting with controls to hold the plane level, and maintain the glide speed,
I declared emergency to ATC and the Land was so far away to glide. I decided to ditch to the Ocean. AT THE END, I managed to glide and hold the pitch/speed under control  and ditched to Ocean safety without any passenger injuries,. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
THat is my story

Sanal

Nice one.  Grin I assume you had crashes turned off.

Finally, a use for the emergency slides.  Wink

Thanks.
I only checked :
1-Detect crashes and damage
2-Aircraft stress caused damage

Huh, so you had crashes turned on? I've never been able to land on water (without a float plane, that is)... So it can actually be done?

It always says crash! And if I turn "Crash" off, I just bounce of the water about 50 ft and engines are suddenly on full. How did you do it? And I alos want the 767 to have slides!

Glad you've made it, Sanal. It takes some pilot skill to land on water.
Now you are Captain "Sully" Sanal.  Smiley

It must be a programmed flight scenario that kicked in.. Loosing first engine was, logical due to tank puncture. But after five minutes suddenly  loosing remaining two engines, I have no idea why happened,
Also. generators dead, hydraulics lost. I managed to start APU. Only things  left  me were partial ailerons , elevator and rudder responses and partial flaps. I have no other chose then,  establishing glide speed, hold plane wings level and glide to ocean. Trick is when you are  10-15ft over the ocean, slowly rise nose, and let the plane settle. Don't ever stall the plane. Don't let nose rise more than established belly landings pitch. It can cause the tail hit first . If all calculations correct,  then let the airplane's belly touch to ocean first.

That doesn't look like a 727! It looks like a 737. Nice looking livery too. Wink

Yes, one has to use CS planes to receive the Captain's title. Other dev's 737, although good, only lead to "Senior First Officer" when successfully landed on water.  Tongue
Awaiting the CS 737 with all those steam gauges.  Cheesy

I think the announcement goes something like this: IN THE EVENT OF A WATER LANDING - DO NOT OPEN THE DOORS, USE THE OVER WING EXITS ONLY!

Opening the doors will increase the descent rate!  Grin
