FSX Tweaks

I know I've posted things like this before, but I'm getting desperate to get FSX to run faster. It was running fine for awhile, but then I started out flying on a very foggy day and the FPS slowed to a crawl. Is there anything I can do to make FSX run faster short of a system upgrade (which I might have to do in the end)?

My specs:
-Computer: Dell Inspiron 1720 (laptop)
-OS: Vista 32-bit SP2
-RAM: 4 GB
-Processor: 2x (Dual core) Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5250 each @ 1.50GHz
-Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

Thanks,
boeing247

It could be an issue with the sim, try un-installing then reinstalling FSX.

After you have tried the link above and see how it works on your system I would consider building or purchasing a new desktop. Probably 4 years ago I was using a Dell Inspiron and I wouldn't try to run FSX and add-ons on that laptop. I am currently typing this reply on a Dell XPS M1530 which I used to run FSX on. No add-ons. It worked fine with no add-ons. Since that time I acquired a desktop with the specifications listed below. That was last November that I got the current system and I sure technology has past it by now. I only use it for FSX and add-ons which I run in the full screen mode. For everything else I use the Dell XPS. I hope the Bojote site works for you. The CS planes are around 35-45fps at cruise altitude and 15-20 at add-on airports The MD-11 runs at 95-110 and 25-35. The FSX default planes, 744, and 748 I have never checked to see what FPS they run at.

Yeah, I've used the venetubo link numerous times. That computer sounds good. I don't even get 15 FPS at cruise altitude while in the VC.

When you have a chance look at this thread particularly reply #2. This guy Ryan seems to know what he is taking about. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/335965-cpu-usage-question/.

I am using Gateway NV52 (laptop) with AMD Athlon 64@ QL-65, 4GB RAM and Windows 7 64-bit with FSX and I usually get 15-20 fps with FsDreamTeam scenery, GEX scenery, FEX clouds and water, payware planes, and ASX weather.

I know that 15-20 FPS isn't too much, but my FSX is VERY smooth even when flying through clouds.

Hope it helps

Huh. I'd love to get 15-20 FPS. I usually get a maximum of 13.  Undecided
