Fuel Dump

I'm not losing any fuel.  I have the nozzles down and showing the dump smoke animation on exterior, but fuel isn't decreasing.  I know it doesn't come out fast, but it decreased by 1% in 5 minutes and that was just the regular fuel depleting.  Anyone have the same problem?  Also if I try and remove the fuel by using "ALT" and fuel and payload, all the planes lights, radar and autopilot turn off.  Any solutions here? I'm running 707 Base pack with the VC-137 expansion.

The change with the way the 707 shuts down after altering the fuel via the menu, is new. It didn't happen with v1.2. I was in flying low and slow (5000ft and 230knots) when I change the amount of fuel. I did it the way I used to in v1.2. Shock! Horror! Engines #1 and #4 failed because the Center, Right and Left fuel tank pumps were turned back on after the changes were made. I had just emptied those tanks and so had turned them OFF prior to making the change (in readiness for what would have happened in v1.2). I could not figure out, for almost 5 minutes, why my engines just would not restart.

I haven't tried the Fuel Dumping, but there is an entry in the aircraft.cfg that deals with how fast fuel is dumped.

[fuel]
fuel_type=2
number_of_tank_selectors=4
electric_pump=0
fuel_dump_rate=0.0004 <- This one here.

From the SDK - fuel_dump_rate - Percent of fuel that can be dumped per second. That is 0.0004% per second. This means it will take 25000 seconds to dump ALL your fuel. That's 4166.67 minutes or 69.44 hours which sounds a little unrealistic, considering the 767 can't even remain airborne that long, if in flight, unless it's a military jet with refueling capabilities. You might want to try a setting of 0.04 as that will take 41 minutes to dump 100% of your fuel. How realistic that setting is, I think we'll have to wait for Lou's input on it.

Mark

Edited:
Do not use 0.04! It emptied all my fuel in about 5 seconds. I went from 93% to 0% in almost the blink of an eye! Leave it set to 0.0004 it works quite well if you use the fuel dump correctly.

Haha, your edit really made me laugh, Mark. No offence intended though, you know my strange humour, don't you?

"Darn FE, I told you to just dump SOME fuel, not all!"  Grin
Must also have been a nice experience for all people below that plane since the weather report didn't mention any kind of rain.
I know of some aircraft extinguishing fires, but it seems like yours did the opposite then.

As said, I'm laughing my a.. off now, imagining the plane "dumping" that fast.

It was funny when it happened as I thought the fuel would take ages (41 minutes) to empty. I turned the dump switches on and "BAM" all the fuel gauge needles went from full to empty. By the time I figured out what was happening, my 707 was as dry as a bone. Zero, zip, nada, no fuel! Huh

What I can't figure out, is why the FSX SDK help files says Percent of fuel that can be dumped per second. So 100/0.0004=250000. My figures of 100/0.04=2500, is 2500 seconds to empty. So why did all my fuel disappear in about 5 seconds?

Oh well. We live a learn. Something HAS to be missing from that equation though. Beats me. Grin

As long as you could land her, nobody was harmed.
At least, you did like the Captain told you, "dump the fuel".  Cheesy

I had to do some in-flight refueling, followed by getting all the engines restarted. At least I was at FL330 when it happened, I had plenty of time to get it up and running again. Grin
