747-8i and Airbus A380 for FSX

What I myself would love to have in fsx would be the airbus A380 and the new Boeing 747-8i (or -8F). These are amazing aircraft that surprisingly have not been developed by any serious addon developer (sure, there are some floating around as freeware, but nothing with Captain Sim quality). Please offer your opinions!  Smiley

The another company 747-8X is a great product the CDU however isn't as good as Captain Sim's. I have a review for flightsim.com that will be online in a week or so...

Hmmm... you mean the another company one? I'll have to look into purchasing that. Would you mind putting a link to your review on this thread when you're done? I'll be interested to see what the addon has to offer...  Huh

Thanks!! Oh, I asked you on a different thread, but I'm not sure if you are reading that thread... Did you watch the 747-8i webcast?

Yes i watched it. I meant to watch it live, but couldn't I'll HAVE to watch the first flight live though...The first 747 First flight in a while. I saw the -8F but the -8I is the coolest!

I saw it live, but I'm not sure if that was a great idea because some parts were kind of fuzzy (it wasn't too bad, though). The unveiling was awesome! I love the new paint job!

I hate reading these online forums about it, though. There's some nasty airbus fans out there who just want to see it fail. It's hard to be excited about the A380 now that I've read some of that stuff.   Tongue

You know the Airbus A380 shouldn't be in existance. The market, yet doesn't demand that many seats, and thats at least 15 years away. Only during the Olympic Games can they fill seats. See, Airbus is subsidized by the french government, their land was just handed to them on a siver platter, very expensive land that, similar Boeing fought for. They artificially stimulated Airbus (French Government) to go from a product the size of the A340 to the A380, skipping to a level, nearest of the Antonov An-225. If Airbus had what Boeing had (at their level of company existence) the A380 would never have been done. They say they'll break even at 390 planes, which orders are currently at 244. And not going up. However, the 747-8 will be more successful, as the other airlines still have 747-400s they can keep running, and are waiting for 'white tails' or when Boeing has begun full-scale production, to begin their orders. As well as many airlines don't want double-deckers and are looking at the 777-300 and 747-8 the latter being for high-density long-range routes. Plus the 747-8 is 16% more effecient, 16% greener, and costs 30% less to maintain the the 747-400. It is easily integrated, as it can fit in to existing 747-400 fleets, requiring different engien maintainence (less of it) and teh same exact cockpit, minus some colors.

I agree. Airbus is just using its resources to beat out Boeing. I'm sure the A380's purpose was to do something that Boeing hadn't done and to compete with the 747 (though isn't the A340 good enough?), I'll bet Airbus didn't see the 747-8i comin  Wink. The -8 is way more economical that the A380, and, like you said, it's not necessary to carry as many passengers as the A380 does. Plus, even if the 747-8 does far worse than projected, Boeing has partners like Lufthansa who will probably order enough for Boeing to break even.

Hey, have you read the book 747 by Joe Sutter (the head engineer of the 747 program)? I'm reading it now--it's great, and since you seem to also be into the 747, you might enjoy it. He also talks about his help on the 707 and the 727 and how he holds a patent for the 737 engine placement.

Sweet. Sounds like a great book! I need to go get some new books soon, so maybe I'll see if they have that.  Smiley
