hi there!

Does anybody here have a clue on how to increase the turning radius on the 727? I remember this was possible on the fs9 model.

In the aircraft.cfg navigate to here:

[contact_points]

point.2=1,  -12.00,  9.20, -11.60, 1600, 2, 2.000,  0.00, 0.4, 1.35, 0.6, 7.1, 7.1, 3, 230.0, 270.0

and increase the BOLD RED number. Try any number between 0.00 (no steering capability at all) to 180.00 (the wheel can be steered to 180o).

FYI

The nose wheel in the 727 could turn around 78 degrees left or right. There are some things that effect the turn. If you are going too fast, the nose wheel will tend to slide and loose traction. In the real plane if you turned too hard you could roll the tire off the wheel - not good! The CG of the plane would also effect the down pressure on the nose wheel.

Try taxing slower and tap the brake in the direction you want to turn to get a better radius of turn.

I have often thought of changing the brake system by adding differential brakes. See the line at the bottom.

[brakes]
parking_brake = 1         //Parking brake available
toe_brakes_scale = 0.99  //Brake scalar
auto_brakes = 4
hydraulic_system_scalar = 1  //On brakes dependant on the hydraulic system, ratio hyd system to max brake hyd pressure
differential_braking_scale = 1

They can help quite a lot with turning. Like they do on the 707.

The 707 did not have rudder pedal steering, only the tiller or little half wheel to the left of the Captain's seat. The 727 had rudder pedal steering, but only 5 degrees left or right. For tighter turns you used the wheel on the left. In the event of system A hydraulic loss, the nose wheel on the 727 would caster. The 707 would caster too if hydraulic loss, but I seem to remember helping it with tiller in the direction of turn to allow fluid to move through the steering cylinders.
