Another great plane and another good place to integrate the Civa INS there. So after 707 and 727 (links at the end of this post) we are now looking at the mighty B-52 to get a somehow modern but classy guidance system integrated.
First, some Civa INS basics which are very useful:
- The Civa INS on the B-52 needs a manual installation of the current (1.51) Civa INS gauge. Get it here http://www.simufly.com/ins/
- To convert a normal FS9/FSX flight plan to one which the Civa ADEU reader can read, you need this tool PlanConverter http://darkc.no-ip.org/trac/planconverter
- general question on the gauge itself are answered in the 707 INS thread (http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1285100008) or in the manuals coming with the Civa installation. Find them in the "Civa" folder.
You won't receive any official support on this because this is a user made modification.
Here's what you'll get with this modification.
- modification on the simicon panel (new Civa buttons there, backlit versions) - two CDUs, two MSUs, one ADEU reader (if you need two, tell me and I will change the setup), twin Nav switch, double update flags for visual verification of a DME update in progress - quick open/close buttons on all panels
And here's how it's done:
1) We start our work on the panel.cfg file in the SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B52\panel folder. Make a backup of the current one and open up the "panel.cfg" file with notepad or some other text editor.
2) This installation is for the 1.0 version of the B-52 Driver. Another version or the Buff only version won't work until I've checked the values. The Buff only B-52 will never get supported by this mod.
3) As mentioned, you need to have the Civa INS installed. Read above where to get it. It's free!
4) Looking at the [Window Titles] section of your panel.cfg Add Window02=INS Control Display Units
window03=INS MSU+ADEU
to it. Gives us two new windows which we'll define later.
5) Now move on to the [Window01] section and add gauge01=../civa/INS!CduPanelIconB, 0, 99, 24, 24, 11041
gauge02=../civa/INS!AdeuPanelIconB, 0, 123, 24, 24, 11042
those are the buttons on the Simicon panel (Shift-2)
6) [VCockpit01] is the next stop, add gauge14=../civa/INS!Config, 0, 0, 0, 0, CS520
there. That's the initialization gauge of the Civa INS. If problems arise, go to the "Civa" folder and delete the CS520.Isd file, reboot and start again.
7) Scroll to the end of that file and add two new windows. ;CIVA
[Window02]
size_mm=420,223
background_color=0,0,0
window_pos=0.300, 0.160
position=0
visible=0
ident=11041
no_luminous=1
gauge00=../civa/ins!Cdu1, 0, 0, 200, 158
gauge01=../civa/ins!Cdu2, 200, 0, 200, 158
gauge02=../civa/INS!UpdateFlags, 150, 160, 115, 63
gauge03=../civa/INS!CduPanelIconB, 400, 0, 20, 20, 11041
gauge04=../civa/INS!NavModeDual, 270, 160, 50, 45
gauge05=../civa/INS!AdeuPanelIconB, 400, 138, 20, 20, 11042
[Window03]
size_mm=420,158
background_color=0,0,0
window_pos=0.300, 0.450
position=8
visible=0
ident=11042
no_luminous=1
gauge00=../civa/INS!Msu1, 0, 0, 200, 57
gauge01=../civa/INS!Msu2, 200, 0, 200, 57
gauge02=../civa/INS!Adeu1, 0, 60, 250, 101
gauge03=../civa/INS!AdeuPanelIconB, 400, 0, 20, 20, 11042
8) Last step, save the file and make sure it reads "panel.cfg" which it should because you've opened this file and just edited it.
To get the Civa working, it has to be aligned, battery and avionics switch (which is a hidden one but usually "on") have to be "on". If the AP is in "HDG select" mode (where he follows the given heading of the heading bug) and you enable the Civa with one of the "Nav" switches, the Civa drives the heading bug and you have guidance.
Once again, use the special Civa thread or the Civa manuals to claer all questions on using it. This thread is intended to show the installation, nothing more. Links can be found above.
Sadly, I won't take any responsibility for harming your system or installation with these text changes, neither does Captain Sim of course.
Do this at your own risk and hopefully enjoy the now enhanced INS experience.
You won't receive any official support on this because this is a user made modification.
Feel free to comment here for wishes or ideas. I'm no programmer, I'm just a guy that has read the Civa manuals and started working on the modification after getting the idea from Cthulhus.707 Civa INS thread http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1285100008/0#9727 Civa INS installation http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1286031420/0#0
