I was also unable to start and keep engines running and my control colum was locked. Also, the side windows wouldn't close.

I did a complete uninstall (including the registry), then downloaded the exterior, then downloaded the B52 Driver update, installed both, now all is fine. Looks like there was originally a problem with my online verification which as a security feature, kept everything locked.

Hope this helps

Now that's one worth remembering! Thanks Tonyla1.

It is interesting to note that sometimes the download is not 100% complete even though it says it is. I had funny things happen on my 757-300 Expansion Pack that were only solved by getting new links and downloading it again and installing it from my new download.

Engines fails

After starting the engines (after about 2 minutes, while still taxiing) they fail; this happenes allways.
After starting them again, they keep running Huh.

Because this is structural, I allways keep this in mind and wait for this before taking off  Smiley

Edit: just had a flight at which the engines kept running from the beginning  Smiley

I feel a lot like Thomas Edison: I know a lot of ways that won't start the engines.  Unlike Edison, I don't know a single way that will start them.

Ctrl-E from the Cold Dark flight does NOT work.

F2 until cutoff, Ctrl-Shift F4, F1, Ctrl-E does NOT work.

F2 to cutoff, F1 at 20%, F3 doesn't work either.

E1,2,3,4 doesn't do anything...

None of the manual methods shown in various videos work although they seem quite logical.

None of the methods suggested in this thread or any linked threads work.  FWIW, one link to a video (early in this thread) is broken.

The closest method is to HOLD Ctrl-Shift F4 until the engines spool up gets them fired but releasing the buttons just shuts them down.  BTW, it would have been helpful to know that HOLDING Ctrl-Shift-F4 was important.

I have reinstalled B52 Driver (over the top of the previous incantation) with no change - Version 1.0, BTW.  I have FX SP2 so I didn't uninstall/reinstall the simulator.

But the reason this B52 is destined to be a hangar queen: even in the  Cleared For Takeoff flight, where one might assume the engines were running, only 2 engines were started and THEY shut down.

Somewhere in this process there is something missing.

F2 to cutoff, F1 at 20% then immediately after that F3 to advance the throttle a tad. Engines start.
F2 (1-3 key presses), F1 at 20%, then immediately press F3 to advance the throttle a tad. My engines start about 95% of the time.

I am beginning to think this problem is installation dependent.  The procedure you listed was one I had tried before and it still doesn't work.  Yet, clearly, it works for others.

I was able to start engines 3 & 4 by themselves using Shift-Ctrl-F4 and then F1 but as soon as I tried to start the engines 1 & 2, number 3 & 4 shut down and 1 & 2 didn't start.

Since you mention using F1, F2 & F3, is it safe to assume you are starting all 8 engines at the same time?

Although I can start all engines at once, they do start in individual pairs.

I can start them using the mouse to pull the levers back, the press F1 followed by F3. Mostly though, I start them in pairs like so:

E+1=selects engines 1&2, F2 (1-3 taps), F1, F3, F1
E+2=selects engines 3&4, F2 (1-3 taps), F1, F3, F1
E+3=selects engines 5&6, F2 (1-3 taps), F1, F3, F1
E+4=selects engines 7&8, F2 (1-3 taps), F1, F3, F1
E+5=selects ALL engines, joystick throttle control.

I'm trying to do a video of how I start the engines in the Captain Sim B-52 to put on YouTube, with the help of my 17 year old son.

Thanks Markoz. I am having all of these symptoms and thinking about reinstalling it. All of my planes now need to be started up. I cannot think of how to automatically start them. For example, when I start FSX and begin to fly, I need to start the engines. It used to be where I could Fly Now and everything would be ready, engines and all. I am going to see if it was an online feature and that would make a very simple solution. If not, it will be more headaches. Thanks for all your help!

Try loading the B-52 Cleared for takeoff (KNKX), move it to the airport of your choice and away you go!

Note: I renamed mine. When I installed the B-52 Driver it was named: Â-52 Cleared for takeoff (KNKX). So it might be listed like that in the flights.

Well I've tried just about everything and I can't seem to get this thing running. I've re-installed it 4 times, downloaded the driver, watched both videos on youtube, tried different sequences, and can't seem to get it going.

I can get the engines going if I hold the CTRL+SHIFT+F4 combo down, they will start just fine and spool up just fine as well. I've moved the key to the enter key and held it down. I managed to get her to take off that way, but the stick/controls were locked. The engines died out shortly after take off though and sunk like a rock.

Just curious if this is an issue that just hasn't been addressed? I noticed on the youtube videos the fuel flow meter moves and stays up for them, on mine it's on dead 0 and stays that way until I use the Mixture Full Rich key. Is there a pump switch I'm not hitting or am I doing something wrong? I think it's awesome that we have to go through these procedures like we do in an actual airplane, it makes it  much more realistic. But I do want to fly it and listen to that beautiful whine similar to what you hear on the old C-5's  Smiley

Thanks for any advice/help.

Hi Wes.

Try loading the B-52 Cold-n-Dark (KNKX) (mine is listed as this: Â-52 Cold-n-Dark (KNKX), yours might be too! Grin) situation and starting the engines from that. If you are choosing the B-52 from the Free Flight mode, something from the default flight might be interfering with the engine start process in the B-52.

Mark

Note: I have done a video of the way I start my engines. It is 1.13GB in size. BUT....I can't find a converter to convert and reduce it so I can put it on YouTube. Sad

Edited:
Yay! I finally got it converted! You can view the YouTube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu45XwRlzL0. Now if I can only figure out how to add comments or text!

Hey Mark,

Thank you for the help, but so far still no luck  Sad  I loaded it from the saved games list and tried both the dark and ready for take off. I've uninstalled the B-52 driver several times and reinstalled. I just uninstalled FSX completely, reinstalled it with a fresh install of SP1 and SP2, and then B-52 Driver, still no luck. I can't get the fuel to flow without holding down Ctrl+Shift+F3 or Ctrl+Shift+F4. Once I let go of that combination, the engines die immediately.

Kinda lost here, not sure where to go from here.

Looks like the issue here is with product protection. Please try Manual Offline Activation.
