First off, let me say Howdy, my name is Dan, I’m new to this forum, and I drink because… wait, wrong forum.
This is my first Captain Sim aircraft, and WOW, if the rest are half as good as this I’m a guaranteed repeat customer. The BUFF has just become one of my centerpiece FSX aircraft. It brings me great pride to see the mighty and venerable Bravo-Five-Deuce, war wagon to end all war wagons, purveyor of peace through superior firepower, preferred mount of our hero Major Kong and dream job of Col. Dutch Holland; finally rendered in such immaculate detail and awe inspiring craftsmanship. To put it another, more complex way, I like it.
Soooooo I’ve already logged about 10 hours or so learning this magnificent beast, and here’s what I have so far. This list is NOT GRIPES, this is an amazing aircraft, and the items below are simply comments coming from an old USAF F.E. that wants everyone else to enjoy it as much as myself.
1) Did anyone else notice “Taileron” and “Radder” on the Hydraulics Panel, or the “Airplans” switch on the AR light panel? 2) The Air Refueling slipway switches are backwards, the normal position should be closed, and the slipway switch doesn’t actually open the doors. The master refuel switch/valve postion indicator is also backwards, it should be green when switch is open and vlave matches, barber pole otherwise. 3) Are the normal procedures from the J57 (JT3C) or TF33 (JT3D) model? There seems to a few things that don’t remember on the ’33 (my experience was with the TF-33-P-7), can any BUFF 'chiefs out there confirm this, I don't have access to any G/H tech data. 4) I get the “Rat Fort” joke on the co-rockets yoke, but can an old crew chief get a pop-up window with a wrench to beat that right seat yoke ape for defacing borrowed equipment? 5) The “Ejection Procedure” placard should be in all caps. There is an old stump-the-dummy question for USAF Aircrews that goes “Where are the lowercase letters in the cockpit?,” and an EP would NEVER be in lowercase lettering. 6) Where are the press releases and hoopla? I haven’t seen anything on Flightsim.com, Avsim, Simviation, Sim-Outhouse, CalCalssic, or any of the usual sites, we gotta’ get the word out! This isn’t just another 777 with a new FMC, this is the one and only BUFF! 7) Would the developers be amenable to allowing a peak at the XML coding for the fuel switches so a 2D popup can be coded for easier use?
Now on to the top 10 things to do with a BUFF on a Friday night…
1) Has anyone merged the civa INS yet? I just can’t bring myself to using the default GPS for navigation on this bird, (it would be like using an easy-bake oven for a wedding cake) and I’m trying to figure out the best way to plan an old fashion SIOP high-low-high double AAR. 2) Speaking of AAR, I’ve tried Mudpond Software’s formation flight toys, and even faking a 25,000 ft “ship” with AI carriers, but no luck so far. Anybody have any ideas for placing tankers to use Andy Niko and Jivko Rusev’s AAR guage? 3) Anyone figure out a tweak to do cart’ starts yet? 4) Who’s going to post the first multiplayer video of a MITO takeoff? 5) Any effects guys out there that can do a mushroom cloud FX? I’m thinking one would be nice at AMARC to make sure the torch doesn’t harm another beautiful BUFF. 6) Anyone figured out how to get the jetways to go to the crew hatch yet? 7) Why isn’t “Proceding due regard” a selctable resone to ATC? 8) Is there a Klaxon sound effect yet? 9) Is it cool to make the passenger announcements to the Radar Navigator? 10) Anyone tried the terrain avoidance system on the Grand Canyon yet?
---Any more ideas?
Thanks Captain Sim, the B-52 Driver package is truly a work of art, I hope enough interest is out there to develop the line with further models and updates!
