Speed knob out of controll

I have a very strange problem - my speed knob acts like a wheel of fortune!  Smiley - Every time I use the scroll wheel on the mouse to set the speed knob on the MCP,  the value is spinning madly down and out of control. For instance if I have to go from 310 KIAS to 250 then the value is decreasing like crazy towards 0 KIAS. - The only way I'm able to stop this spinning down, is to left click directly on the numbers and hope for it stop in the area of 250 - but most often it stops way below this value and causing a lot of mess into the flight!  Sad

Does anyone have any idea why..?!

All the other knobs are acting as they're suppose to (except for the Autobrake which for some reason doesn't work in VC mode)

I find it will do this if I try to change the setting with the mouse wheel. Just make sure you use the LMB and RMB (Left Mouse Button and Right Mouse Button) only.

Hope this helps.

It is a "feature" to allow you to set a speed without numerous clicks.  Get it going, pull the mouse cursor off, and watch it continue until it is close to what you want.

At least that's how I use it.

Hi Tim.

That's how I do it too. But if I use the mouse wheel to try to change the setting, it spins down (I've never seen it go upwards) until it hits 100. I can't get mine to go down to 0 though. Wink

Yes of course - don't no what I was thinking of... Smiley I guess it's because I don't usually decent via the CDU/VNAV but leave ATC to decide when and how much + runway assignment and heading directions..SO, all together the cockpit is pretty busy during a very short time - that is, at the same time doing both the 1 officer and the captains job! Things are then close to panic and you just sometimes tend to use your tools in the basic way, that you are use to.
But I will be aware of it now! Promise!
However it's a little annoying that you actually can use the scroll wheel every other place - ONLY not on the speed knob!  Undecided

I suggest you create a new topic about this in the '767 Captain' - It'd be nice forum. Wink

Yeah, I also don't like the mouse philosophy in this aircraft.

Although the behavior of the Speed Knob can be a nuisance, I am used to it and I rarely get "caught out" by it.

The only knob behavior that gets to me is the Altitude Knob on the MCP. One (RMB or LMB) click = +/-100 feet, if it worked more like the Decision Height Selector, I would be happier. Especially if it had the same "flick" behavior! I don't know how else to describe it, so I call it a "flick". Wink
