After installation, no landing gears visable

Hello everyone,

I have just purchased this beautiful bird by Captain Sim and might I say, I am very pleased with it and the little impact it has on the frames. But I am only having one problem, the landing gears arent visible...I dont have a firewall on and im not running any antivirus program. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and am clueless on what could be causing this problem...I am a proud owner of several of Captain Sim products and never ran into this issue before..Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Cry

I saw this, too.  It looks like the 707 has some sort of alien anti-gravity technology that allows it to hover.  I believe it is a graphics overload issue.  I noticed it only at KJFK, which is addon, with another company's Manhattan nearbay.  I lowered some sliders a bit and have not seen a return of the issue.

If gears are not visible all the time this is model protection. For technical support please check-in to Your Profile , click Product name link and use Customer Support link.

It is an anti piracy measure that Captain Sim uses and it usually means your activation didn't work properly. Try uninstalling then reinstalling it to see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, you need to remove the information in the registry. Check in to Your Profile and search for KB #685 on how to do remove it from the registry.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the effort in helping me out, but after trying the instructions on removing it from the registry after deleting, still didnt help me..I followed the instructions to a "T" and reinstalled it, and  fired up FSX and still no landing gears. I have already submitted a trouble ticket to Captain Sim and no reply, as of yet...the only direction im getting right now is from the community forum (from you)...I hope Captain Sim dont try and offer me a refund, because I would rather have this resolved..to me (IMO) this is the best bird I have ever purchased from them...this bird has NO impact on the frames whatsoever...Im praying that someone, or somebody is out there reading this and has a suggestion on how to maybe resolve this...and yes, all of my drivers are up to date... I have 12gb of memory, about 300gb ssd drives in raid 0, video card is nvidia gtx 290 1.8gb, operating system is: windows ultimate 7 64bit...I have purchased from Captain Sim with these specs in the past and no problems whatsoever, so im lost right now Cry....please help, Country4life

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem just after the first installation.
(Morover my computer's specs are very close to yours, W7 64b, ram 12 Go, Nvidia gtx 260 1.8go, hd 2t raid0 ...  )
As long s I remember, I believe that I had just reinstalled the 707 over itself and the landing gears came back after it.
But it seems that you've already done it
Hope it'll work for you anyway

After installation, no landing gears visable...FIXED
Reply #7 - Sep 2nd, 2010 at 10:09pm

Hello Captain Sim Community,

Thanks to all of you who have tried so hard to fix my landing gear issue...Well, 2 days and 6hrs later I am glad to say," Its Fixed"!!! Captain Sim tech still hasnt replied back to my trouble ticket either....but im pretty sure someone from there will reply now after reading this and after seeing that it is fixed....the steps I took to get it working correctly are listed below (please note: this may or may not work for you)....

1). I uninstalled Captain Sim 707-300 from this path: Start/Control Panel/Programs and Features.
2). Went into the registry to completely remove any leftover entries.
3).Used Ccleaner to scan system for any old files or folders( Ccleaner is freeware, just google it).
4).IMPORTANT: I then redownloaded the 707.exe file from Captain Sim( think I may have had a bad download at first).
5). Restarted my computer.
6).Launched the .exe file I downloaded earlier, but this time before downloading, I right clicked the file and clicked,"Run as Administrator".
7). Installed it and what do you know.. Smiley

Also, Im not sure if "Running as Administrator" was the key to it installing correctly or redownloading the ".exe" file again was the fix, but im just glad its all working now.....Also, if you plan on going into the registry like I did, PLEASE ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! Log into your profile with Captain Sim and type in this KB number for details on how to remove it from your registry: the KB number is 685

Special thanks to: Markoz, Jcmic,Tim Capps, and Captain Sim 2 for all their efforts......Happy flights Smiley

Because of that one, you will find that I quite often recommend to re-download the product again as it happened to me with the 757-300 Expansion Model v4.4. After I did that, it worked perfectly.

Mark

EDIT: This particular time I didn't. Sad

This happened to me right after installation (with no restart), but after I restarted the computer it was fine. I also reinstalled FSUIPC (registered) just for the hell of it as I have the current version backed up in a safe place. I recommend that as it will automatically re register itself and all your previous FSUIPC settings should be there. Always restart your PC after installing an FS add on, it eliminates alot of problems that really wouldnt be an issue if you did.

I found a solution (when I loaded a saved flight where the plane was still on the ground, my landing gear disappeared): While in the flight, go to Aircraft>Select Aircraft, click the same plane and same livery, and click "OK". The plane will re-load and the landing gear reappear.  Wink

Graphics corruption of this kind is often seen with highly complex addons.  The system simply can't cope.  There is a fix you can put in the fsx.cfg file.  Go to avisim and search for HIGHMEMFIX=1 .  There are many threads.  It solved all my problems of this nature.  There are numerous other associated mods, but the HIGHMEMFIX=1 line is all you need, plus deleting some files relating to the shader cache, whatever that is.  Here is one thread telling you how to do it:

Was that a permanent solution or simply an in-flight reset? doesn't sound like it was permanent.

Whenever I see all the fix suggestions I am amazed. I've bought the products. 707-Base installs and works like a charm. The expansion packs, however, have the reported "no landing gear" issue. So now I have aircraft that don't install properly and I am supposed to rip out software, mess areound with my registry, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, blah, blah, blah. Why am I supposed to? i paid for a product that was advertised to work. It was advertised to install and work properly. I had to provide an order number to prove that I bought it. Why am I supposed to fix it. Captain Sim makes no such mention of the invisible landing gear issue. They just took my money and gave me a faulty product. I will uninstall it and I will avoid Captain Sim purchases.

If I went to any other retailer and bought a product I'd sure insist that it work without me having to open the case and fool around with the innards. Why am i supposed to here?

I appreciate that people offer suggestions and solutions. To me there is only one solution and that is for Captain Sim to deliver what I paid to receive in working order.

I am not going to compromise my computer to fix a problem of their creation. I don't know why anyone would. Angry

It seems like you installed the Expansion Models while you still had the 707-300 Base Pack v1.2 installed. Uninstall the 707-300 Base Pack v1.2 then download the 707-300 Base Pack v1.3, install it and then install the Expansion Models. Doing that should solve the problem.

Mark,

Thank you.  That absolutely corrected the problem.  That's the way a fix should be explained.

The 707C's now have landing gear and fly ever so sweet.

Now if iI can just get the 767 autopilot to work, but that's a different forum. Cheesy Cheesy

Did you do the registry clean (KB #685) before reinstalling?

How to clean Registry:
1. Uninstall the product
2. Go to Start> Run. Type: regedit, click OK.
3. Find the product entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\ (please note, for Windows 64bit versions it is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\)
For example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\C130XPRO
Make sure you are going to delete correct folder!
4. Delete the product entry folder.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Install the product.

If that still doesn't fix the problem. Use the Extended Download Service, download a new file and install that to see if it fixes it.

thanks markoz but when I searched for KB685 I found:"Please be careful and do it on your own risk!"
and to quote ByBry I don't want to "mess around with my registry" so I think the 707 will stay in the hangar... Undecided

I understand how you feel. However. If you delete the wrong one, you will just need to reactivate the installer before reinstalling the one you accidentally deleted.

Maybe you will find it easier to try if you can see what to look for inside the registry. Wink

thanks markoz I now have landing gears under my 707...yeah!!!!!!!
captain sim should add the sreenshot you posted on the clean the registery page.
It helped make the clean the registery thing less dramatic (for me!)
anyway thanks markoz!!!

Edit: the ADVs don't have landing gears... 707-300B and 707-300 are working fine.

Having a similar problem. Somethings quite not right. Some times when I load the 707 I have no landing gear and other times I may load the very same aircraft and same flight and the gear is there Huh and this isn't specific to one particular model it seems either. On top of that when this occurs I cannot click on/use any of the switches in the cockpit. I can hear them move etc but no animation or effect will follow.I tried loading the default Cessna and start off cold and dark and again the problem will occur to be honest I'm stumped.

Seeing as it is not happening all the time, is there something specific that you are doing that might be the cause.

Example #1: Sometimes after reloading a Captain Sim aircraft many times, I have this happen. I exit and restart FSX to get around it.
Example #2: Loading the Captain Sim aircraft into FSX after using a different developers aircraft. Again I exit and restart FSX to get around it.

So unless it is when you first start FSX and the CS707 is the first aircraft you load into FSX, it could be one of the above cases. You didn't specify whether this was the case, so I'm describing what has happened to me.
