Microsoft Flight!

Who said Flight Sim was dead and had reached the end of the line?

Great news fellow flight simmers! Check this out: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/! Looks like Microsoft are getting a new Flight Simulator program ready.

Mark

P.S. The worst thing about this news is that the developers will have to learn a new way to create their addons! I hope (fingers crossed) it will be fairly easy. Sad

To be completely honest, and from what I heard, I doubt it will even be a flight simulator, it will probably just be a game with missions, it probably worn't be close to what we are used to. Just my thoughts.

I haven't searched out much more info on it yet, but I will be disappointed if it turns out you are right. I was going on the following claim: “Microsoft Flight” will bring a new perspective to the long-standing genre, welcoming everyone, including long-time fans, to experience the magic of flight. If this proves to be right then it could be good. Time will tell.

It's strange that they would announce the game but release no real information. And there hasn't been any news since then. But I'm in completely agreement with you guys. If it's simplified and gamey, I hope that at least it has the potential to be a great flight simulator through extensive modifications.

I too am exited about this new sim...If it ever becomes a reality? I doubt hey can improve on the game as is...Besides Microsoft fired the ACES team last time for what ever reason.Maybe they became expendable as new develpers, even users were/are learning to program their own gauges and patches for the already marketed software. Lets wait an see what happens?

Microsoft Games Studios is looking for an SDET for a new project: Flight Sim LIVE. We are looking for an
experienced person to own our testing for Gameplay and Multiplayer features. We are looking for someone who is
motivated to make a significant impact to our business and drive great customer experience for our gamers. If you
have the skills and the passion, want to work on a Games for Windows LIVE product, and you're looking for
challenge in a fun and fast environment you should join us!

The above is a quote from a Microsoft job advertisement dated 3rd May 2010. It is possible that some former members of the ACES Studio might have applied, maybe even got it.

On the other hand, they may not have even bothered. Quite a lot of them went on to form a company called Cascade Game Foundry who  "will push new boundaries with the latest in cutting-edge graphics, simulation and web technology" (which doesn't sound much different from Windows Live Games or even Steam) and continue Flight Simulation and other simulations, further. So if they do, we could have some interesting simulations coming in the future. Including a newer and better Flight Simulator. Time will tell.
