Am I doing something wrong?

I've been messing around with the 767 now after feeling comfortable flying the 57, and the one thing I have noticed that while the speed will increase when I do an auto take off, but the plane never raises the nose like the 757 does. I was just wondering if there is something that I am supposed to do differently on the 767 than the 757 when programming an auto takeoff?

I personally believe it has something to do with the CG of the 767 and the take off trim setting given by the FMC. The FMC in the 757 will give me a T/O trim setting of something like 2.58 for a CG of 36% whereas the 767 will give me a T/O trim setting of only 0.5 for a CG of 36%. I have found that if I leave the trim setting at the position it was in when the flight was started (0.0 according to the Cockpit Tool Tip on the trim lever) then it will take off, but it is still at about Vr +10 or +15 knots. If I set it at 0.5, according to the Cockpit Tool Tip, it will still take off at about Vr +10 - 15knots but it will climb very steeply (~4500 - 5000 fpm).

Is something wrong with the T/O trim setting from the 767 FMC? Possibly. I watch the magenta box on the left side of the ASI that is the guide for the pitch of the plane and pull up when it reaches the centre and then rises above the artificial horizon.

Hope this helps.

I can't get at the 757 or 767 right now so I will have to do this from memory. I am using the default CG in FMC which is 27% and the stabilizer trim indicator to trim the plane. This shows on tool tips as around -1.0% ANU. Whenever I use Aussie's  method of computing CG I get a value between 37-41% CG. If I enter that into the FMC and use the calculated trim setting for the stablizer trim indicator tool tips shows the trim as -6.0% AND. As soon as I press EPR to takeoff I get a warning horn and stabilizer trim in red letters in the EICAS. So, I just stick with the default CG of  27%.

I'll try both 27, and 36 on my next couple of flights and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.

I just use what it says on the Throttle Quadrant itself, not the tooltips.

If I use aussies's method I usually get a setting of between 37-39% (never had it as high as 40% or higher). I have only ever had (as far as I know) a setting of 1.5% - 2.0% ANU and again never a negative number. It is possible that I have misread it though. And I've never had that EICAS warning.

27% sounds right compared to aussie's 37%+.

I shall look into it again. You have made me curious about whether I have been "getting it  wrong".

Those outlandish -6.0% ANU I was getting in the 767 with a Stabilizer Trim Indicator of around 1.2-1.5. Right now I don't remember the 757 settings however I do remember the warning horn and red Stabilizer Trim in both the 767 and 757. One thing you have to remember is I have an empty weight on the 757 of 141800 pounds. The 767 empty weight is whatever the the CS default value is. I don't think the empty weight should affect what we are trying to determine here.
