Here is how I have done it in the CS767-300 panel.cfg:
[Window01] size_mm=64, 256 background_color=1,1,1 position=6 visible=1 zorder=99 ident=12101 gauge00=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iAnim, 0, 0, 32, 32 gauge01=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iCDU, 0, 32, 32, 32 gauge02=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iEfis, 0, 64, 32, 32 gauge03=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iRadio, 0, 96, 32, 32 gauge04=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 0, 128, 32, 32 gauge05=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iNote, 0, 160, 32, 32 gauge06=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iExtPw, 0, 192, 32, 32 gauge07=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iExit, 0, 224, 32, 32 gauge08=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iOH, 32, 0, 32, 32 gauge09=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iLight, 32, 32, 32, 32 gauge10=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iAP, 32, 64, 32, 32 gauge11=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iIRS, 32, 96, 32, 32 gauge12=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iP, 32, 128, 32, 32 gauge13=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iATC, 32, 160, 32, 32 gauge14=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iExtBAir, 32, 192, 32, 32 gauge15=Captain_Sim.b767.300!iRDR, 32, 224, 32, 32
I modified the BOLD line so that the default FSX GPS Icon is displayed in the SimIcon panel (SHIFT+2). It replaces the one for the YOKE.
[Window37] Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=570,473 Position=7 visible=1 zorder=1 ident=GPS_PANEL
gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,0,570,473
Window37 was the YOKE and is now the FSX default Garmin 500 GPS.
BACKUP THE PANEL.CFG BEFORE MODIFYING!
To fly a flight plan. Load an FSX flight plan in the usual way and it will display in the GPS. You need to also load the flight plan into the FMC. The manual tells you how to do that. Any flight plan made with the default FSX Flight Planner should have at least two waypoints in it for the FMC to be able to let the plane fly the plan well.
Because the FMC is so much more complex than the FSX Autopilot it takes quite a lot of practice to learn. Trial and error (lots of errors). It is worth it to learn how to do.
Hope this helps.
