Vc cockpit alias

Hi all,

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet. Is there no way to alias the Buff to a better VC until the VC model has been released? I find the 744 cockpit very unrealistic. Wouldn't it be better to alias the cockpit to the C-130 or even the 727 cockpit for those of us who own these?

Regards,

James

Hi James

In the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B52\model\ folder you will find the model.cfg (open it with notepad) that you will need to modify.

This is what you will see inside:

[models]
normal=CS_B52
interior=..\..\b747_400\model\B747_400_interior

You just need to change the interior=..\..\b747_400\model\B747_400_interior to point to the VC you want to alias it to.
EXAMPLE: interior=..\..\CS_B727-100\model\cs727_100_interior would alias the cockpit to the CS 727-100 VC. You must have these ..\..\ in there because they tell FSX to go back to the airplanes folder before moving on to the CS_727-100\model\ folder.

NOTE: BACKUP THE MODEL.CFG FIRST!

Hope this helps.

Are there any other files you have to change apart from the model.cfg file, as I have tried the above method and it won't work ?

Hi dobin.

Yes there is more changes needed. I should have mentioned that you must make modifications to the panel.cfg too. No one asked so I assumed they knew. I should know better. Undecided

First backup the original panel.cfg. Then you need to edit all the gauge entries that are in another panel folder.

Like this one from the CS_B52 panel.cfg:

[Window04] <-- 2D panel
file_1024=..\..\b747_400\panel\ECU_Background_1024.bmp <- location of the background image used
size_mm=404,366
position=7
windowsize_ratio=0.8
visible=0
update_rate=6
ident=THROTTLE_PANEL
gauge00=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Throttle Quadrant, 0, 0

The =..\..\ takes you to the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes folder, then the b747_400\panel\ takes you to the default FS 747 panel folder (I guess you might have figured this). The default FS 747 panel folder is in the folder where you find all the background images and gauges which you need to use.

[VCockpit01] <- VC panel
size_mm=512,512
pixel_size=512,512
texture=$747_1
background_color=0,0,0
gauge00=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Standby Altimeter, 0, 113, 111, 101
gauge01=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Standby Airspeed Indicator, 112, 114, 111, 110
gauge02=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Standby Attitude Indicator, 113, 1, 111, 111
gauge03=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Primary Flight Display, 6, 234, 243, 267
gauge04=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Multi-Function Display, 286, 259, 224, 252
gauge05=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Clock, 1, 1, 113, 113
gauge06=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!EICAS Display, 286, 2, 224, 252
gauge07=Magnetic_Compass!Magnetic-Compass,225, 166, 60, 59
gauge08=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot IAS-Mach Window, 233, 0, 45, 15
gauge09=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot VS Window, 226, 15, 59, 16
gauge10=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Heading Window, 233, 31, 45, 15
gauge11=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Altitude Window, 226, 47, 59, 16
gauge12=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Hdg Switch, 259, 253, 25, 29
gauge13=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Localizer Switch, 256, 64, 29, 30
gauge14=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Approach Switch, 226, 96, 29, 29
gauge15=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot VS Switch,256, 96, 29, 29
gauge16=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Nav Switch, 226, 126, 29, 29
gauge17=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot IAS-Mach Switch, 256, 126, 29, 30
gauge18=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Speed Switch, 257, 285, 29, 29
gauge19=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Altitude Hold Switch, 226, 64, 29, 30
gauge20=..\..\b747_400\panel\Boeing747-400!Autopilot Master Switch, 259, 227, 25, 24
gauge21=Captain_Sim.b520.icon!iExit, 0,0, 2,2 <- this entry means the gauge is in the same folder as the panel.cfg OR the FSX\GAUGES folder

If you are unsure how to do it. Let me know which aircraft you are wanting to use the VC from, I will do my best to show you exactly what those changes need to be.

Hope this helps.

Interresting. I do have a few questions for you Mark. With the 737 series I would like to have the default vc for fsx as well as the Captain Sim 737 panel, how would I go about that? In my experiments with this, I noticed that the landing gear dissapeares, why do you think that is? Also I noticed that the passenger cabin was not available anymore, was there something I needed to change to keep that as well? Thanks.

Hi.

Have you thought of buying the B-52 Driver Upgrade? It comes with a VC. Of course you don't have to, but it makes the B-52 complete.

Same applies to the 737.

The reason for the missing landing gear has to do with the sys gauge. It looks something like this:

gauge01=Captain_Sim.b520.sys!main, 0,0,1,1

and can be found in [Window00] in the panel.cfg. The above is from the B-52 Driver, so I'm not sure if the gauge has the same named as the B-52 BUFF Exterior. If that gauge is not in the panel.cfg [Window00], the the B-52's landing gear will not be seen.

The same applies to the 737. Look at the backed up original panel.cfg, to see what they are and make sure you add them to your modified panel.cfg.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! It does give me some dirrection to go in. What do you know about the model itself? The landing gear may be missing, but if I keep the views from the config file then the passenger cabin view is lost. Better yet, this is what I wouold like to do. I love the old style cockpity, but I have always found it difficult to set a course for the autopilot using the little knob that is provided since it does not give you a pop up message stating what you have selected. I have been able to overcome this with the 727 by using a freeeware guage called cockpit commander found on Avsim in the 2004 section. It is a very nice guage allowing you to just punch in the numbers and sets the heading or course desired. This is really my only gripe about the products as I do love everything else. In mthe 737 this option does not work since you are forced to use the knob to set a heading or course. If you have any ideas on this I am all ears.  Cool

Firstly. What are you using? The B-52 Driver OR the B-52 BUFF Exterior?
Secondly. What are you using? The 737-200 Exterior OR the 737-200 Base Pack?

Now I just use the knobs n the VC to change the heading NAV 1 course. The HSI, in both planes, displays the course heading in the top right of the gauge (see attached image). So I don't see how it can be that hard to set it. The heading is a bit harder, but I get that as close as I can and then make small corrections guided by using SHIFT+Z to display the current heading.

The 737-200 -100 and 200ADV. I think I managed to get a work around going by using the 737-800 panel and interior model. I do apologize for the confusion as google led me here per my vc query in their search engine. I am currently getting ready to test it out now. If it works, I will end up with 2 sets of aircraft: one with a retro panel and one with a modern one. I do thank you for your help and it was the heading that has no visible indicator, the course is just fine. Smiley

Ah. I thought that you may not have realized that the reading for the course was there.

Good luck with the modifications. Wink

Thanks for all your help. I have managed to get the 737-100 working perfectly and the 737-200 now uses the defeault 737-800 panel, but strangely enough the landing gear is missing on the 737-200. I did copy over the sys gauges that were in the panel config. I solved this issue by copying over all the guages from the 737-200 panel folder to my modified panel folder and the landing gear showed up. Of course
i was very happy with this Smiley Grin. I will post instructions on how to do this for others to follow if it is allowed. Once again thank you for your help.  Smiley

New Snag. I got everything working now except for the nav/gps switch. This switch is not one of the guages as I have gone through all of them and had no luck. When I finaly eliminated all of the guages and had nothing but a bare vc I noticed that the nav/gps switch along with the light test switch were still there. When I use the new panel I am unable to switch from nav to gps, it is always on nav. Any thoughts or insight on this? I would realy like to be able to switch this one way or the other at will. Thanks. Smiley
