CS WX Radar to VC on any FSX aircraft
Feb 12th, 2010 at 3:18am
Print Post
Forgive me if the answer for this is located elsewhere, but I browsed the current threads in this forum and did not find any that had the answer I was looking for.

I would like to know if its possible to add the radar to be visible and functional in the VC of any cockpit, most specifically, the another company MD-11. I found the thread that showed how to do it with the CS C-130 which I'm really enjoying, but would like to know if I can achieve the same thing with another aircraft.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It is very hard to add the CS Weather Radar to display in the VC. The gauge mapping is done in the modeling process where the gauges are applied to a texture. That texture is "assigned" a location in the VC.

In most cases you will need to replace a gauge to have the weather radar show. I would recommend FS Panel Studio if you want to try. You will also be limited to the maximum size of the original gauge or some of it will not be displayed.

Is it possible to just make the gauge draw on transparent so it an be intergarated. I hope this feature will be avaliable so that i can intergate it into NAV display like on products on another company airbus? I think is possible because you have done it on your 767.

It is highly unlikely that another developer will make a place in their VC to allow you to add the CS Weather Radar to the VC.

It is hard to explain how the gauges are added in the VC if you don't have any knowledge of making add-on aircraft for FS.
I have noticed that it has become quite common to model the gauges as a part of the VC, so they are "built in". This makes it impossible to add it to the VC.

I think you will have to accept that it will be a 2D gauge for all but Captain Sim aircraft.

In order to work in VC the CS WX Radar has to be integrated into the VC code.
List of CS WX Radar VC integrated addons:
- 727 Captain
- 767 Captain
- 757 Captain

Dear Captain Sim,

I´ve just purchased the radar WX for my CS 727, I use the 2.2 version.
Please, could you tell me how can I add the code to work on the VC panel? If you prefer by email, toledo_fabio@hotmail.com

Thank you very much,
Best regards,
Fabio

Hi Fabio.

If you bought the CS 727 from here (download version), you can Check-in to your Profile and get new links to download the latest version (2.4) which has the CS Weather Radar integrated into it.

Captain Sim 2 wrote on Feb 25th, 2010 at 7:51am:
Older 727 versions provided CS Weather Radar compatibility/synchronization with VC, i.e. those who purchased CS Weather Radar (sold separately) were able to operate it in the 727 VC.
I only saw this in v2.3 but that could be because I may not have purchased the CS WxR until around the time of the release of the 727 v2.3.  So I'm not sure if it can be seen in v2.2. To find out if it is, make sure the CS WxR is installed then turn the WxR in the VC ON, give it about a minute and see if it displays anything.

If you have the Just Flight boxed 727 Captain, you will need to find out if there is an update to v2.3 or 2.4 from their web site.

Hope this helps

Dear Mark,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply and attention.
Honestly, I´m happy with 2.2 and after reading about all the problems with newer versions...I´d rather keep the way it is..If it´s working, lets not mess with it..
In my VC the turn on button is not active. So I believe some modifications (the same modifications made on aircraft.cfg or VC panel) shall be made to make it work there.
If customer service could help me out. I´d greatly appreciated.
Thanks once again.
best regards,

Hi Fabio.

I understand your reasoning on not upgrading, which is fair enough. I have had the 727 since v2.2 and they have all (v2.2, v2.3 & v2.4) worked fine for me. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone. I guess I have to say I'm lucky because all my Captain Sim products work extremely well (dare I say perfectly?) for me.

Ha there's a brand new MD80 that reserved a place in their VC for the CS Wx Radar.  They even included e cut and paste instructions for installing it.  Even I could do it so now I have the whole thing in 3D right where it belongs.

Hi Tim.

It's nice that they have done that and would be great if others followed. Do they also recommend getting the CS WxR? Or are they just being nice? Wink

They don't necessarily recommend it but it is one of three gauges that they have set it up for.  The other two are Hi Fi's X Gauge, and one other I don't have / remember.  They do make it easy and it is a "feature."  The knobs work and everything, just like in the 2-D panel.  I thought it was a very nice touch.  So Captain Sim might want to update their list to include the other MD80 just released.

Check out the manual zip file.  There is a folder in there.  It is not in the regular manual.

Hi Harry.

I did it like this...

First. I added the CS Weather Radar using the WXR Editor.

Second. I opened the panel.cfg (FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\other_JS4100\panel) file with windows notepad and edited the following:

[VCockpit02]
size_mm=1024,1024
pixel_size=1024,1024
texture=$GaugeTwo
background_color=0,0,0

gauge00=j41!other_j41_rmu_1,    0,   0, 393, 500
gauge01=j41!other_j41_rmu_2,  393,   0, 393, 500
gauge02=OTHER_BAe_JS4100_3!GNSXLS,  1, 508, 512, 408
gauge03=j41!other_j41_alt_pic, 896,0,128,508
//gauge04=rxpWX500!RDR,  532, 528, 472, 331
            Commented out this line - in other words I added the // to the beginning of the line
gauge04=WXR!wr_display,  532, 528, 472, 331               Added this line to replace the commented out line above
gauge05=j41!other_j41fms_pu_open, 919,458,53,35

Open the WXR 2D panel, turn it on and the WXR displays in the VC. You need to control it with the 2D WXR panel.
I can get the controls to display in the VC, but the entire gauge show up in the small black screen if I do do it. If I work it out, I'll reply in here how to do it.

Hope this helps.

Mark

EDIT: Here are some images of how it looks.

The 1st image show how it currently looks using te described method.

This 2nd image shows how it looked trying to add the entire WXR in the VC.
