Turning heading with autopilot
Aug 28th, 2009 at 9:13pm
Print Post
Hello,

I have a question about using autopilot during approach. Let's say that I'm getting closer to my destination and ATC tells me "Descend and maintain FL15000, turn right heading 145". I know how to descend with autopilot (FL CH), but I have no idea how to turn heading with autopilot. Do I have to reset L NAV, or press HOLD button, or do something else? I always pressed the disengage buttom, and I turned heading manually, but I don't think that I was doing the right thing.

Please reply, if you can help me,

Regards

Paul

It's like the default FSX Boeings: dial in the correct heading in the MCP heading selector, and engage heading hold, or at least I think it should work that way. Haven't tried myself yet.

As you said you should press Hold button, the plane will hold the current course, then dial MCP heading selector the desired course and click HDG button with the right mouse button.

I have both versions FS9 & FSX and there's no problem with disengaging Heading select. Are you sure you left click Hold and right click Sel?

Yes if I push the heading sel (right click) it starts following my selected Heading. But when I right click again the button is not comeing out again and pushing HDG hold is ignored.

Problem 2:
Sometimes I have an second autopilot ^^, an invisible one with blocks the CS autopilot. You can turn him on and off via the FS Keymap  Cheesy, but you know what the plane is doing next.

For e.g. you're heading 0 degr. Press Hold the plane will follow 0. After that you want to change course to 90. On MCP dial 90 and right click Sel, the plane will turn to 90. After stabilizing on course (90) left click Hold, Sel will be disengaged. There should be no problem neither in FS9 nor in FSX. Beilive me I've done it many times. As for autopilot in FS9 there is really a problem with Z (keybord) button. By the way in FSX it works good. Just don't use it and turn the autopilot off pressing Disengage bar It's not too dificult Smiley

Thanks for your advice Raven, I will try it asap.

One question again ^^: Is it problematic if you don't load up with standart Cessna in Seattle ? Because I have a another company 737 as standart flight, So I load a another company 737 before the CS 757. Is it a real problem for an Add on (as written so often) ?
Where can I find the standart Seattle flight ?

You're welcome Gradl. I never had problems with loadind CS 757 and though Cessna comes as default flight I don't load it. Just load FS, choose a plane (e.g. CS757 or whatever), make a flight plan, choose the airport, click fly now that's all. Once again I never had problems with loading neither in FS9 nor in FSX.

I think you're asking for trouble if you don't have a default a/c as your startup situation.  This is what most developers say, anyway.  I don't think you actually have to start your flight that way, but I have the Cessna with everything off except avionics, and with the parking break engaged.  I can pick the Captain Sim 757 or 767 and it loads in that state.

Thanks Tim for clearing it again. Avionic on seems to be essential.
