Beta Testers

Hello CaptainSim,

I am 16 years old and love to fly flight simulator. I know how to fly the 767/757, EMB E-Jets Series, MD-80, ATR 72/500, B727, DC-10, PBY Catalina, and am taking real world flight lessons. I also own several scenery packages for FSX, and am very knowlegeable about all aspects of flight simulator.  I collect the actual FOM, and QRH of many airliners.  Anyways I am just curious what do you have to do to become a beta tester. I think this would be a good way to use my talent for flightsimming. I know pretty much anything about airplanes and airports or just aviation history in general.

I mean this in the kindest way possible, but you need to learn the gift of humility.  Almost 10 years ago when I was your age, I felt quite the same.  You're going to learn that no matter how much you know, it is almost certain that there is someone who knows more than you.  You may know a lot about aviation or flying, but there are certainly people who have been flying for decades who could bury you alive with their knowledge.

This isn't to take away from your offer for beta testing, but is passing on a lesson learned.  My big wake up call came when I started medical school.  I thought I knew a lot and was going through basically a formality in getting the degree.  Now that I have nearly graduated I realize that I would have killed many dozens if not hundreds of people if I walked out with the knowledge that I had just three years ago.

ESzczesniak, I have to disagree with you.  I think in this case, some bragging is in order.
aal763 is trying to sell himself and show Captain Sim that he is qualified and would be an asset on the beta team for the 767-300 being developed.
It is a little difficult to sell yourself and be humble at the same time.
I own a sign company and have been a sign maker for almost thirty years.  When I say "I'm good" it isn't bragging, it's just fact.

aal763 isn't claiming to know all there is to know.  He is saying that he knows enough to be an effective beta tester, and I believe him.

ESzczesniak,
I have been doing this since I was 4 years old.  Every minute of every day I think of aviation.  I have ADD, and because of that I hyperfocus on aviation, since that is my joy in life.  If you are a Doctor of Medicine you should know about this.  I am in no way bragging.  I am just stating some of the things I know that would be of importance for a beta tester.  If it bothers you I will take out the "anything."

Best Regards,
AAL763 Smiley
