That's a good guide how to flare the aircraft but the problem is the aircraft starts zigzagging following the gs (even when the weather is set to clear skies)

yes i experienced the same situation a couple of times in LPPT Lisbon, don“t know if it's something related with specific airports, i need to fly and test in different destinations... With completely clear weather, wind 0kts the airplane shakes as it was been target with strong gusts making the landing almost impossible... haven“t experienced this before update 4.3

Flare on autoland
Print Post
I have the problem that the aircraft (757-200) does not flare at all on autoland. LAND3 is illuminated, all 3 CMD Switches are green , flaps + speed set to 30 and Vref + wind, spoilers are armed, gear is deployed and 3 green, autobrakes set to 3 and thrustmode to TO/GA for goaround.
First flare and rollout are displayed in blue. So I assume they are armed.
Then they turn green but the aircraft does not flare and hits the runway with 700 ft/m... I have no idea what I do wrong. Or is this just a bug?
Thanks in advance for help

did you also set the landing altitude in the system? maybe you can try that although this is just a suggestion as i have never used automated approach and landing.

But the aircraft does the altitude callouts and so it must "know" when it is time to flare. Where to set the landing altitude on the overhead panel or in the FMC? On the overhead I think it's just the cabin altitude. Correct me when I'm wrong.

Possibly it is simulating a hard landing which is normal on autoland, although the vertical speed is higher than I would expect.
I noticed that PSS's 777 also has a pretty high vertical speed on autoland.Perhaps some real pilots can weigh in here for normal specs.

Ok then I must land by handflying which is now no problem because of the autopilot bug fixed.
Maybe the vertical speed of the autoland can be adjusted with the next Service Pack. another company and another company usually flare between 100 and 200 ft/m
Anyway thanks for your help

Ok I just a video on youtube showing the as 757 autoland. The flare is there but it is far not enough. Fspassengers always reports tire damage.
So I think that must be fixed with a future update

Just did a flight from KLAX to KSFO and I must change my opinion. The aircraft does flare prior to touchdown. That is not the problem. The problem is that when on glideslope the aircraft starts to increase the angle of descent when at about 200-500 ft over ground. The sinkrate increases to 1000-1200 ft/min and so the aircraft is not able to reduce the sinkrate for a smooth landing. You can see that the aircraft tries to flare. The blue diamond of the ILS is rising which means the nose is gently pulled up for flare. But because of the sinkrate to high the aircraft can not make it. If the sinkrate remains at about 700 ft/min the aircraft would make a perfect landing. Maybe this helps the guys from captain sim fixing this problem.

Does anyone ever see the glide slope following the standard -700'/min until about 500' AGL, then seem to become steeper?  It seems a couple of airports that I have landed at, using a manual approach but in the slot on the way down, seem to have this happen.  I dont know if the Auto Land is just reacting to this sudden change in glide slope and therefore not giving the AP a chance to do a nice flare and roll out.  Just a thought.
