Don't Sink ...? How turn this off ?

Hi

How can I turn off the "stupid" Don't Sink sonor advisory when I perform a CAT I/ II/ IIII with or without Autoland? (I mean that I'm on the GS and ILS with a good speed)

All is good (Green Land) but all the time I ear this sound ...

Any tips ?

all the best!

I don't believe you can turn off this warning.  My suggestion is that it is being triggered because you are over your landing weight which is causing your engines to be running too high for your onboard computer to accept that you're landing.  Try reducing your total weight (default is 100 percent fuel in all 3 tanks) .

Hi,

Thanks for the tips, I don't start my flight with 100% of fuel but maybe you are right, I still have too much fuel for the landing.

I'll try to reduce the fuel quantity and check again...

Thanks

The landing weight has nothing to do with getting a "Don't Sink" advisory. It is an advisory from the GPWS indicating an excessive descent rate starting at 1000' AGL. The proper course of action is for the FP to use power and pitch to silence the Don't sink advisory. As long as i have the aircraft properly configured for landing I don't get the advisory when conducting a full auto-land or manually flying an ILS approach.

Hmmm... I think the GPWS call you're referring to is 'pull up, sinkrate' which is triggered by excessive decent rate.  The warning he's referring to is ' don't sink ' which I understand to be triggered by alt loss with a high power setting.

Actually, "Don't Sink" GPWS caution sound is only supposed to happen in an altitude loss after takeoff or during a missed approach.

If you're descending, and then begin climbing, it's likely that GPWS believes you are going missed, in which case until you're off the GS and intercept it again, it should then begin the warning if you have a negative climb (descent).  It should not trigger outside those conditions, and a correct approach GPWS would be the "SINK RATE! (WOOP WOOP) PULL UP!" if you were sinking too fast.

I get it (constantly) during auto land, even when I've set up properly and have no condition which should trigger "DON'T SINK!"

I guys i think i found out on to turn the dont sink off. The sound that we hear is from default sound of FSX the wavw file is "GPWS dont sink"  by moving the file elsewhere the sound id not there anymore . I guess FSX  see the sink rate of capt sim a/c differently , anyway i can live with others  default a/c of FSX not having the sound , and flying the 757 without that sound on final.
Hope it works for you .

Jean,

Thanks for the input.  I had always believed the trigger was false, due to how I understand GPWS should normally cause that sound.

And, since you indicate it's the default FSX methods that are triggering it, preventing FSX from playing the file will also keep it from playing it in planes that aren't equipped with GPWS, which is very annoying!  Shocked
