Looking for a repaint suggestion of the mighty Herc to do when I get back in 5 weeks.

I am leaving this open to the comunity.
Post requests and i'll run a poll to get a winner.

Criteria is that it must be either a C130"E", "T", "KC" or L100

Dax

(I have plenty of 757 requests but C-130's get priority).

Well I would love to see a KC-130 Dax. This one should be a challenge because CS hasn't release the KC-130 yet. It's VMGR-352's (one of my old squadrons) KC-130J . This has a particuarly sweet paint scheme. It's the C.O.'s bird.

I'll wait for the release of the KC-130 model and then my vote goes to the HC-130.  At least these are how our HC's are painted at D-M.  Close anyway. Grin

I added the KC-130 to the list as it should? be released by the time I return on the 23rd April.

Even if is not released by then, I can still do the majority of the work using the existing repaint kit and modify it when released.

I'm not sure if the  CS model will be a "J" or if we are lucky to get both models of KC

I just noticed that particular A/C is a J only. They don't have the refueling pods installed on it yet. So that could just be used as a cool j-repaint. I doubt that we'll be lucky enough to get a KC-130 J but it would be sweet to have both.

I have to admit I didn't purchase the "J" expansion. When I realized that it was not a full "J" expansion with cockpit and performance I didn't want to feel disapointed. If the "J" repaint kit becomes available to all I will happily do the repaint.

Dax

p.s. I am thinking of making either a msn group or website to host my work and tutorials on how to paint aircraft using CS's repaint kits.

That's cool. I would definatley like to see you make a msn or yahoo group. That would be cool. I'd like to repaint. I'm just not going to spend a whole lot of money on photoshop. Do you know of any free alternatives. Besides the free trials?

You can use any paint program. Ulead, Paintshop.
I got my photoshop from Ebay for a very good price.

I found a progam called Gimp. It's a free alternative to photoshop. Only stumbling  block is all of CS's repaint kits are made using Photoshop so there could be compatiblity issues.

Ok. I got the corel 30 day trial. But my textures are blurring. I'm using dxtbmp to convert the files and saving them as dxt3. How do you make them clear?

When using the dxtbmp program you also need to deselect "mitmaps" before saving. This will eliminate multiple mitmaps. This is the cause of blurring in my earlier repaints.

Can't give exact description of menu options in dxtbmp. I am working of memory.

My vote for a repaint would be either an MC-130P utilizing the new KC-130 expansion or an MC-130H repaint; however the MC-130H wouldn't be correct since the radome is very different from any models currently available.

However those are my inputs; by the way I really appreciate folks like you that are willing and able to do repaints -- so thank you!

Hey Dax,

Thanks for your repaints. Here are a few of my ideas.

First, I would love to see a Navy repaint.  VR-64 from Willow Grove NAS.  Tail Code BD:
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0984729/m/

Tail Code BH, a Marine KC-130 from VMGR 252, Cherry Point, MCAS.

Also, a repaint of this grey and white "Fat Albert"

Thanks Dax

Hey Dax,

I hope you had a pleasant stay here in the USA!  Don't get too wrapped up in Vegas Grin Wink!!!  Don't spend all the hard earned money the Gov. pays ya!!! Cool

Vegas was my home for about two years.  I was stationed at Fallon, NAS.  We would cram ourselves into a car(hopefully one that wasn't on the verge of breakdown) and hit the strip for the weekend.  What the hell, I was single and in my twenties then. Cool  Now, some 25 years later, I find myself married, and father to three wonderful daughters!  All of whom keep me on my toes, more so than the Navy or Vegas ever did.  And while I managed to do some incredibly stupid things back then, I look back on those days with fondness.

When I had my own command, I shook my head and had many a stern discussions with sailors about their antics, but all the while I was chuckling to myself, because I was their age once.

I hope you and your crew have a very safe trip back home.  I will do a chant to keep the gremlins away Grin

Please take care.
Warmest regards!

I have to admit over my years of service, including many years on Hercules and Harriers, I have had some really terrible trips to Vegas. This is my third trip in 18 months and my tenth in total.

I have made plenty of friends, visited plenty of sites but out of all of it there are things that I have realise happen to you in the town of sin.

1. You go out at night and leave the last casino and it is daylight.
2. You always end up walking in one direction and it is a long way to walk home.
3. You always wake up in the morning not knowing how you got home.
4. When you wake you also feel like some one has beaten you up and they have stolen all your money. (Spent the lot without anything to show for it other than a hangover the size of the Hoover Dam).

As for commands. We always got told off even before we got too Vegas. Our management would tell us to behave and not to do anything disgraceful.
Who did we always have to pour out of the taxi at the end of the day. The Squadron commander and the Senior NCO's.
Now I'm a senior then I guess I'll have to keep up the tradition.

Viva Las Vegas.

Hi Dax,

AHHHHH the good ole days... Grin  There is nothing worse on God's green earth, than flying with a hangover.  we had strict rules about crew rest, but we still managed to have hangovers in the morning Cheesy Tongue

We went out to the range for some gunnery practice one morning.  My backseater and I had hit the Vegas strip the previous night and we were feeling a little under the weather.  After a few minutes of a furball with another aircraft, I executed a 9-G turn, my RIO ripped off his mask and lost his breakfast all over the rear cockpit.  Oh, Man what a mess Tongue  And it wasn't that slimy watery puke either, it was the chunky industrial waste type Tongue

When we shut down, the plane captain, a young PO 1st class came up the ladder, saw the carnage in the rear seat, and launched his own breakfast down the side of the jet.  Needless to say, the crew chief, who was a man of impressive size and was in the Navy back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, was not a happy camper.  He didn't care that we were officers, and took no pitty on our souls.  we spent the better part of the afternoon cleaning "his" aircraft.

Safe Journey and warmest regards,

Captain J.R. USN Ret.
Proud Naval Aviator with 4000 hours in the F-14 Tomcat.

Hi all.

Well I am sat in the airport looking at my Virgin Atlantic 747, with the biggest hangover I can imagine. Last night madness on the Strip. I have eaten at least 4 packets of mints hoping the checkin staff wont realise that I smell like a brewery. ( Not much chance. Atleast the other six smell like me as well.)
I shall reopen the Repaint shop on Tuesday once I have read all my emails. I shall put a list of the repaints I'll start work on as soon as I can.

See you all on the other side of the Atlantic

I can't belive i have just saw this thread. having a read i noticed u said this Dax:  Quote:
p.s. I am thinking of making either a msn group or website to host my work and tutorials on how to paint aircraft using CS's repaint kits.

Now THAT IS a good idea. lol. I just have to say i love ur repaints. I downloaded the repaint kit a while ago and opened it and soon as i saw all the texture folders and had a look at them i was like  Shocked   Cry  because i dont have a clue what textures are for what part. apart from the fusalage lol. That will be a good idea to do a website of your work and how to repaint CS's planes with there paintkits as i find them very hard.
BTW can u do this repaint if u got the time on the c130 E the one of the defult ones not J model please.

I have to admit this is one pretty Herc!

In the Herc book I am currently reading (see other thread  Cheesy) there's a pic of a UPS Herc. Now that would be a sweet one!
