Graphics Performance

Hi,
i just got the C130 (professional) and im finding frame rates in the VC to be a problem
I turned down the graphics on everything to see if it would solve the problem
with them all turned down the default planes were running at about 35fps and my other payware planes
were performing fairly well too (including the just flight spitfire and CS 707) in the virtual cockpits.
However on the C130, the frame rates are very low - around 4 fps. Its not alot better on the 2D cockpit either.

I currently have:
3.2 MHz Pentium 4
2 Gb DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card 256 mb

Does anyone know what i need to up my frame rates?
and it would also be useful to know what systems u guys are running.

If anyone says 'upgrade your hardware' can you please tell me what to upgrade it too  Huh

Thanks for your help in advance

I concur.  I have never had the drop in frame rates that I am experiencing with the C130.  When flown away from populated areas, or with little cloud or wx effect, frame rates are decent - but that seems to be the only time.  Otherwise I like the addition to the game.  I will be most interested in any fix recommended.

My specifications are the same as yours Oliban, except I have the Radeon 9800 256mb - and at the moment I'm getting between 21 and 28 fps in the virtual cockpit. So I don't think it's hardware - perhaps some graphics settings? (I don't know much about what to change  there - sorry).

Oliban, I'm running a Pentium 3.0 w/hyperthreading- 1 gig ram- ATI 9800 pro. 128 mb's - my frame rates are locked at 20. I have Ultimate terrain and MYtraffic 2006.
I don't fly it at night because UT's night lights give me a hit.
I run traffic at 30%.
Majority of the time, with fps locked at 20 I run 19's in VC. I'm running 1280 x 1024 on 19" LCD. your problem is a little unusual I think.
hope you figure it out
JimC.

I have the following results: 2d panel: 16 - 45 fps. 3d panel: 9 - 23 fps. Tower view: 10  - 34fps
chase view: 18 - 30 fps.
Graphics card Radeon 9500/9700 Pro 128 mb
512 Ram. CPU 2.6 Athlon

Settings: Global textures: Massive.  VC gauge quality High. Terrain Mesh20% Terrain Textures: High.
Scenery/Autogen: Normal. Terrain detail: Land only
No blending, no Extended Terrain textures.
Special effects: Low.  Framerate setting : Unlimited.
Render to texture: On. Transform and lighting: On. Anti Aliasing: Off
resolution: 1280x1024x32
Mip Maps: 4 Rendered lights: 6

With regard to framerates at these settings, if the framerates are set to 30 fps, I get the lower values but less fluctuation between the low and high values, ie I get between 10 and 30 fps.
I am also using Flightsim manager Version 2.85 and I think this helps a great deal with aircraft as complex as the CS Herk.

Hope you find this useful.

I have the same issue i have basically the specs

Intel P4 3.4GHz
1GB DDR2 SDRAM (PC3200)
Creative Sound Audigy 2 ZS
GeForce 6800 GT
400GB S-ATA HD @ 7200RPM

I get around

2D Cockpit - 28 to 37 FPS
VC Cockpit - 19 to 28 FPS
Spot Plane View - 40 to 72 FPS
Tower View - 30 to 40 FPS

What is making the FPS so unsteady? Could it be the mipmaps i hear they kill the frame rate.

Hi Oliban,
Maybe there are a lot of programs running in the background. Have you defragmentated your HD yet? if not maybe give it a try. Try it on 1Gb mem, by removing (temp) 1GB. Some systems can't handle 2048Mb memeory well.
My system now: P4 3.2Ghz, 1024mb DDR2 memory, Ati Radeon X850Pro AGP with 256mb DDR3. My fps are arround 20-30 in VC, about 25-35 in 2D, about 30-40 in spotplane. Ai is set to 60% all other is between 75 and 100%

So there might be something conflicting in your system with the C-130.

I hope you solve the problem soon, so you can enjoy the fun of flying the Herkybird on a good framerate.

Hi,

my system specs are comperable to yours (3.4 P4, 1 Gb RAM, X800XT) but I am getting much better framerates.
I wouldn't rush to buy a new rig if I were in your shoes though - you should be able to get by pretty well with what you have (and since FSX is coming, better wait a bit).

Do you have any part of your computer running overclocked? (CPU, VGA etc?) Sometimes overclocking has the exact opposite effect.

Also, try using CS's very helpful support system. I had a similar problem (slow switch responce) and they managed to help me out after looking at my system specs (sent to them after using msinfo). In my case it was unauthorized video drivers.

Regards,

I had the same problem untill today Grin
I tweakt my computer after looking on all different forums because i had only 10 fps in VC at a big airport with AItraffic on 100%.
I gained like 20fps after tweaking regidit and other XP stuff  and tuning my graphic card. Then i playd a bit with the sliders in FS and bingo!
And thats with my virus and firewall on.
I think tweaking your computer is gonna help allot of ppl with these issues.

The suggestion throughout this discussion is that frame rate is directly correlated to performance. In my case I'm only registering between 15-28 fps in all modes with the Herc. This is about a 50% decrease in fps when compared to default aircraft, but I'm getting clear, crisp displays in all modes and about as rapid response when changing venues in the Herc as I get from default aircraft. My FS2K4 program currently exceeds 20GB and trying to optimize all my settings has truly been a bear. Only part of the solution for me was in FS2K4's display setting. The default settings in your graphics card are OK for FS2K4 out of the box, but sorely lacking when you add sophisticated aircraft like the Herc and various mega scenery programs. You definitely need to customize these setting to fully exploit the attributes of these new generation marvels. Another consideration is what else is going on in your computer. I recently read an article published by PCAviator in which they recommended loading add-ons onto an external hard drive to preempt computer conflicts. This works for me and precludes having to reinstall 20 GBs of programing when I swap out computers. Just be sure its formatted with an NTFS filing system and has a high speed connection to your computer. Hope something here helps--- Ziggy Grin

Ok,

1. go to your video card control panel and make sure everything is on application controlled
2. make sure your drivers are up to date
3. find out what you maximum res for your monitor is
4. go into the game and use these settings and got to options
5. put overall on about high,
6. then weather go 80% on everthing,
7. Arcraft crank that baby up,
8. Hardware,
   a. res to 1024x768x32 (now depending on you frams and what your monitor can do you can keep going up in res and checking it)
   b. turn off the box marked Antialiasing,
c . turn it from trilinear to bilinear,
   d. dynamic lights 4 or 5 and for the one below it 4 or 5,
   e. global terrain just go high, set your frames at about 40 and lock them.

now report back to me on how its running ie your frame rates then we can start bumping it up from there

You have a great computer, its just if you dont have this came configured right it will suck up alot of CPU and Ram, also make sure not alot of background programs are running and do a defrag of your HDD as well
