Title: C-130 cockpit
Post by Captain Sim on Apr 11th, 2022 at 5:16pm
Captains,
Some of you are probably surprised to see the "C-130 Captain Exterior" package released without a flyable virtual cockpit.

There's no mistake, we believe the product name (Exterior) and the description are clear enough: No virtual cockpit, exterior model only.

Are we going to release a working cockpit in the future?
We don't know.

For now, all we know is that the $14.99 price tag on the "C-130 Captain Exterior" does not include any cockpit related promises or upgrades.

You are a bit late to release an April fools joke. Not really sure why anyone would release a plane without a virtual cockpit in 2022 for MSFS but here we are.

We do understand that many most of the people who want the C-130, want it with a cockpit.
But we do not have the cockpit available for sale.
What we have for now is an understanding that an exterior model is better than nothing.

The fact that someone personally doesn't want an exterior model, does not mean that no one wants it.

Just my two-pence..

15 or even 20 dollars? Give me a C-130 with a cockpit that "more or less" works and looks right with some attempt to actually configure the aircraft's easily googleable weights and fuel amounts. If it looks and sounds about right and I can do a simplified cold and dark I'd be 100% ok with 20 bucks. There are developers offering bigger bang for your buck (W42 springs to mind) but they're experimenting with the wider market of MSFS and whether it's viable to go for much lower than traditional pricing.

15 dollars for an external only model with minimal animations and I don't even know what "asobo defaults" you've used for this one... is, personally, vastly unreasonable. Sell it for 5 dollars and give a seal of approval for the community to do their own improvements to it... though honestly I think the community still needs an actual VC model to work with to be expected to produce anything worthwhile in a reasonable amount of time.

And why exactly is it such an unknown whether you'll add a VC? Your actions with the triple 7s, then the 764 and now the C-130 scream 'We haven't the ability/resources to do more than this'. I can sympathise with that, if you'd admit to it.

TLDR: Add a VC and make it work in a simplified way.. and set the darn empty weight/mtow/etc accurately in the config file... and I'd totally pay what you're asking or even a little more.

Ok but you have released many products over the years where the cockpit was released - Including an old C130. Why now, have you decided it's ok to release a plane without a virtual cockpit? I understand the team behind CaptainSim are most likely not the same as it used to be but surely you would make a lot more money if you actually released an addon that has features and systems people want.

Seeing a C130 in MSFS is utterly brilliant and it looks superb so well done for that.

Seriously though, your FSX version was one of my go to planes, even for that old platform the VC was superb.

Personally, I'm not likely to buy just an exterior model, my view is  that I'd rather pay more and have something that resembles the amazing C130 you had on FSX. I'm just going to keep my fingers and toes crossed that when you see all the comments from the community you'll find the time and persuasion to start working on a VC.

I'm sure when you do it'll be amazing and I'll throw my money at you to have it!

Go on, you know you want to! :)

Not sure about the "now". We did the "exterior first" releases many times (727, B-52, 777, 757, L1011)

Honestly, I don't think people should complain. It is clear that VC is not included. Just don't buy it then! The market decides if it's worth it or not.
It would be good for the community if the lowest level was higher - but as long as people buy it, we can't blame the creators.

Yes but why? It's pretty clear, I think, that people want a C-130 just.. one with a VC. You even acknowledged that yourselves a few posts back, so why are you unsure you'll ever commit to making such a product?

As to the fact that you've released products without a VC before.. And you specifically used the phrase 'External first'.. first? That implies internals later. But here you're unwilling to commit to a VC ever? So what is going on?

It's 2022 guys. This is a sim with unprecedented graphical fidelity where every default aircraft has a beautiful looking virtual cockpit, even if 90% of the buttons and switches are 'INOP'.

Your triple 7s and 764 at least had a good looking VC... and they had it from day 1.

I'm just bewildered...

Right, but those FSX exterior models were marketed as a part of promised upcoming upgrade with VC deal.
The FS2020 is different so we technically can't go that route anymore. That's why we underline that the "C-130 Captain Exterior" is exactly an exterior model as is.

Since you simply dont like my comments. Let's try this again.

Are you planning to sell this on the Asobo in-sim marketplace? Just a yes or no.

I really cant be breaking any rules to get my comments deleted. If so, please enlighten me.

Fine, you market this one differently. I haven't said you don't appropriately clarify in the name or description what your intentions are but you are dodging the question. The core question is *why* won't you commit to an MSFS c-130 with a cockpit?

Planes from Captain Sim used to be quite decent, pre-MSFS.
The last few releases have, honestly, not lived up to the otherwise good reputation you used to have.  :-?

I think you are making it clear you have zero desire to answer the question of why you won't commit to developing your products into something more, you ignore the questions or outright delete posts that challenge you. This is foolishness and only serves to further damage your reputation as an addon developer but I sense you won't listen to that advice. Be it on your own head.

I think it's a shame.  :( The think that disappoints me the most is, that I know that Captain Sim is (or at least was.....) capable of delivering so much more than this.  :-/

For those of you who don't just want to stare at a blank cockpit, I've tried my best to paint gauges in  . . . however,  it is not possible to paint high quality gauges, as the cockpit section makes out less than 5% of the .dds graphics file . . . everything is out of focus  . . . ?  CS should at least allow us to paint a better cockpit if a cockpit with working gauges is not available . . . . .
Look at the jpeg attached, if you like it, send me an e-mail at armithea@gmail.com and I will send the .dds, it was too large to post it here.

That's an exterior model cockpit which is not designed for the interior POV use.

Why then does it come up by default as "internal view" when you switch between views ? So it is there, as setup by CS in Camera file . . . Therefore it only makes sense that CS should have painted this section and not left it almost blank.

Hi,

I'm considering picking this up, and know that it has no VC, but I'm wondering what you do see when you load the plane to fly? Are you always looking at the exterior view as you fly or do you start with essentially a big open window but sitting at an eyepoint as if you were inside the cockpit?

Also, there are screenshots of the cargo bay interior so I'm wondering if you can move your eyepoint backwards into the cargo bay (combination of arrow keys, etc)?

Thanks.

Hi rcafgunner,
You have an external and internal view - I have posted a jpg previously showing the internal view, which is basically a painted section of the fuselage, but seen from inside the aircraft.  It would appear that not everybody sees this view, you need to setup your camera.cfg in order to display it - iow change the viewpoint settings.

Problem is... it's being offered on MSFS Marketplace as "C130 Hercules" ie missing the EXTERIOR qualifier which makes it sound like an aeroplane grown ups might actually want to fly... instead of the gamer-kid graphic that has seriously pissed me off! :(

Well, my bad I guess. It didn't register with me that this plane was just the external part with no VC. What good is it other than a picture of an airplane and nothing more. Lot of money for just a picture. Is there anything that can be done with the "shell"? Please tell me I get a little more than a picture for my money!!! I am thinking that this is another "biggest mistake of a purchase" in my life. I would suggest that you change the description of this plane and put in BOLD letters the part that this is a shell only with no VC. BOLD, UNDERLINED, would be nice so that other 66 year old men will not be duped into buying this "picture" with their hard earned limited income. I was wondering why the rating on this plane was so low. Now I know. >:(

Its sad to see how far CS has fallen. Releasing a payware plane for a sim in 2022 without a VC or at least a promise for a VC is laughable. Glad to see so may new developers creating quality if this is the direction once trusted brands have gone. Dont come at me with "just because you dont want an exterior model doesnt mean its incomplete". The market and masses dictate what a complete aircraft is and in 2022, that means a working VC. I hope you guys get your act together and go back to the days of the 707, 727 and L-1011 because in those times, seeing the captain sim name was enough to know it was a good product that was worth every penny.

PS: do a 707 for MSFS with a VC. Vintage planes seem to be making a comeback and the 707 was a piece of art once upon a time.

Right. But if you read the rating details you'd see that there are mostly 5 and 1 stars.
- 5 is what the model really deserves.
- 1 is from people who love the model, but hate the fact there's no VC.

I evaluate aircraft based on the interier...  Why, because I fly from the pilot seat, not sitting on top of the aircraft.  I was amazed at the the quality of the flight deck in the prior version.  The C-130 was my go to plane because it went fast, but (most importantly) I could land it at small airports with great graphics.

If the interier comes out for FS 2020, I will be getting that.

Hi
Is there any movement on getting a VC for this model?

I've bought this model a few years ago to support your devolpment and really happy with the exterior.

But flown it once found the experience totally underwhelming and parked the model in the hope that a VC will be released one day...

In FSX your C-130 was default my go to aircraft, now in MSFS it's the C-160.

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'll happily pay to have workable model, but until a VC is released sadly this model sits in the hanger being under utilized.
