Title: Re: MSFS 2020

I am convinced P3D is the future of airliner simulation. I hope Captain Sim stays far, far away from MSFS. I have it, and once you get through 100 “ifs” yeah, it would be amazing. It’s very cool for GA flying.

If CS stole a march on everyone and came out with a MSFS 727 or 737 well, yeah! Sign me up for five of each! But that’s not happening.

But, I have thought Captain Sim is beautifully positioned to carve out a niche in the P3D market. Sure, most people want glass. I do understand that. So does every other dev, though, which is why the competition will always be against the darlings of the hobby. (Even the darlings are taking some flack now I see  8-) ) My fond hope remains that we’ll see the old classics brought up to L1011 “port” standards (which are at least as good as most of what’s out there). Of course, Captain Sim knows their business, but I still hope they see enough demand for steam gauge classics, starting with the shorter legged ones. (Sorry, but I don’t like many super long flights.)

In the P3D forum, I see people saying they’re flying classic airliners that I KNOW do not include P3Dv5.1 in their requirements. A DC-9 here, the CS 737 there... People say they work. I dunno. I do know they want them. Can’t say what the L1011 sales are like. It is a fantastic product but a mostly forgotten airplane these days, and was never produced in number. A shame. But I think an updated 727 or early 737 would find a bigger market than the L1011, only because they’re better known.

But, what I want and what makes sense to the fine Captain Sim folks are two different things. Sometimes niche is the way to go, but that’s their business. Meanwhile, I haven’t even kicked the tires on a certain Maddog or Airbus I’ve had for months. Is there a single good classic airliner for P3Dv5.1 besides the L1011? Even one? (Just yes-or-no.)

Well, it’s a dream, but, wouldn’t be great to hear, “Yeah, Captain Sim. They didn’t follow the lemmings off the MSFS cliff and now look: they OWN P3D!” Nothing touches the L1011 in P3Dv5.1, not as a classic. Oh well, guess I’ll keep flying it until there’s something else. And a little 757 ;-)
