Title: Outside Exterior Model - Low FPS
Post by bmanvi on Apr 28th, 2020 at 1:52am
Getting very low FPS outside, VC fps are amazing but once I go outside fps drops like a rock. Not sure if the outside textures are the main reason, but I don't have this issue with any other aircraft's in my sim. I also have chaseplane as my camera.

Seems like chaseplane might be causing low frame rates, I don't use chaseplane and the exterior framerates are 50-60

It just seems really weird as I don't have this issue with any other payware aircraft's in my sim. Is there a way to reduce to 2k exterior textures?

Why do you believe Chaseplane is causing low frames? I've used Chaseplane for years on various aircraft and have never experienced an issue where the app caused a frame drop. When I'm using Chaseplane on the 767, I've noticed that looking at the wing has a considerable drop compared to looking at any other part of the aircraft. I don't think Chaseplane is the culprit here... instead I think Chaseplane provides the user the ability to look at a PBR heavy area which ultimately drops frames. I've used the app for years and have never experienced an issue where Chaseplane appeared to be the issue.

Didn't have any issues! On my lower-mid grade PC it runs pretty well with mid-high settings, 150+ AI planes, and ORBX sceneries, all in VC and exterior.

Can confirm it's not chase plane. I'm in single figures and have a fairly fast PC

+1, Frames rates fine inside the VC, apart from HSI that seems really stuttery. Go outside and frames plummet. Not using chaseplane.

Just to disprove this theory of chaseplane being the cause, Im pretty sure you can disable Chaseplane per aircraft, and reset the .cfg to before chase plane. Can almost guarantee it won't be chase plane

It's 4K Ultra-HD exterior textures. Some systems with limited video won't like them.
We'd make a light 2K textures set if we get enough requests. So pls drop a line if you'd like to try the 2K set.

Yes I would like to try the 2k set. I am having very low FPS even with my RTX 2080 Super and i7 9700k.

I hope the lite 2k pack is more performance friendly. The 757 has this same performance issue. All my other planes run smooth with chaseplane.

Kind regards,
Thank you

Here we go: 2K textures set.
Unzip to ...\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B767-300ER-II_PW4060\

That will save ~500Mb for your video.

If you want the original textures back - just reinstall (repair) the 767.

Thank you!  I went from a struggling 10 fps to 50-60 fps.  Huge and appreciated change!!

These textures haven't made a difference for me, still suffering with poor frames on the external model but fine in the VC apart from the HSI stutters.

After installing this, my taxi and landing lights are also no longer working. They're illuminating on the ground but not showing on the model.

Having the same issue as Jake. And to answer the question, VC gives me 30 fps roughly, exterior drops to 9 and below.

Just applied the stuff said in the linked HSI Stutters topic. Gonna fire up and see how it is then.

Mine drop by half, showing around 31/32fps in the VC then externally drops to around 14fps. This is with the 2k textures implemented too. No chaseplane either.

I installed repaints from iniBuild for the 767 and external frames are over 50 in cloudy weather. I have not tried the 2K texture set yet. Will try and compare.

Please find attached my images.

All pics taken at JustSim EDDL airport stand C04.

As you can see from the Mooney Bravo (Default) there is 0.1 difference in FPS between VC and External view.

In the Captainsim 757 III there is 4.7 difference in FPS between VC and External view, the external view providing more FPS than VC.

In the Captainsim 767 II there is 11.8 difference in FPS between VC and External view, the external view providing fewer FPS than VC.

Thanks,
Ok what we get:
- Just 2 users (you and bmanvi who is out for some reason). So there's no serious problems in the 767 that could affect mass user.
- The fact that the 767 exterior model does cause fps drop on your PC.

We believe the 767 exterior model complexity pushes some limits of your sim and/or PC setup. That Prepar3D.exe crash is an extra proof of that.

Possible solutions:
- System and all drivers update
- Performance check e.g. https://www.userbenchmark.com/Software
- P3D and/or windows reinstall.

Before that I'd try the 767 on another PC.

And I've tested several aircraft (default and payware). All at JFK with current time and weather (rain). Only this 767 is showing this odd behavior. All other planes (f22, 787, NGXu, FSLabs) are showing normal FPS values, VC and exterior.

Second, I've found something odd. When I load in at an airport in the 767. And hop out, FPS are good! But, whenever I go back into the VC to switch to exterior view a few minutes later, the FPS have plummeted. :o

So this is just a theory of mine, but this 'Outside Exterior Model - Low FPS' issue might have to do with the fact that the exterior model file of the 767 CAPTAIN II (.mdl file size= 275 MB) is about 6 times larger in disk size compared to other payware add-on aircraft such as the 737NGXu (38 MB) and the QW787 (37 MB).

In the past I've done some modeling myself, I do know for sure: Generally speaking (and of course there are other factors as well) the larger the size of the model file, the more complicated the model is... In other words, it will have a bigger impact on performance!

Even with the 2k texture i'm still getting low fps about 7 to 9 outside but when i'm in the cockpit i get about my normal 20-30 fps. I'm just saying in my opinion the outside looks nice but no way so i be laggy like a slide show and then get high fps in the the cockpit.

The 767-II exterior is a next generation model with unprecedented level of details.
For those whose PC is unable to handle the exterior model, we'll make a light version with all bells and whistles removed.

Meanwhile you can try the 2K textures set.

Also installed 2K liveries, and p3d crashes when changing to external view, in VC 30-40fps

I definitely have a difference too but no exterior vs VC. It's just a good deal lower FPS all around. I have it in P3D V5 and I am getting about 25 FPS in and out with the 767 vs 35-40 with the another company Airbus A320. The biggest thing I notice is when switching views the textures turn all black and it takes a couple of seconds to load. I have a high end PC i7 9700k/ 2080ti and 32gb of RAM. I haven't tried the 2K textures yet, but just wanted to give the feedback.

Here we go: 2K textures set.

Would it be possible to get an updated pack? Since the metallic maps that come with the currect 2k texture pack are not correct for v5 users.

I'm still getting low fps outside but in VC i get good fps. I don't understand it even with the simplified exterior i get low fps. i get great fps with the 757 and 777 but when it comes 767 low fps even when i pick it for a preview it takes for ever to load up. if anyone could help with that it would be great i have yet to be able to do a flight with the 767.

So with this 2k texture set how does it exactly work? What happens if I download a livery from ACE that is 4k? That will obviously override the 2k textures correct? Do I specifically need to download liveries in the ACE that are 2k?

If the 2K textures really make a difference on your PC, you need to downgrade to 2K all liveries you wish to use, on your own.

How would I do that? The option in ACE is grayed out to chose either 2k or 4k

Using an editor that can scale DDS files.

It just shows what size is the livery set.

I've been simming for 15+ years and not once have I ever had to manually edit a DDS file for a livery, nor do I even have a clue how to do that...I guess I'll just only download 2k liveries that are available in the ACE...

It's totally up to a repaint artist to decide on the livery resolution size. Most of them go for 4K.

Well atleast you can alleviate our FPS troubles by allowing us to omit the Passenger Cabin. I don't see the point of having it anyways as it is eating my fps a lot. Has almost made the Sim become unusable.

That does'nt solve it for us, why would I disable essential features like the doors for passenger exits and the cargo doors just to access a cabin, instead you should develop an option where we can keep all the external model animations while omitting the passenger cabin. That's the least you can do considering you have charged this much.

Swapnil.

Just another example of how torturous it is to fly in such low fps settings.

That's and option. If you don't like it, you need a better PC.
Also we have an older 767 for FSX which will run on a low-end PC just fine.

:-?Even with the reduced version I get the same low fps count, and this is on a GTX1050Ti. Ngl, another developer's products with much more features gives me 5 times better FPS at the same airport. No points for guessing which one it is. Just a suggestion, instead of disabling essential animations like the doors, disable the non-essential animations like the cowlings, radome, slides and what not. Ngl, that'll make life easy for not just me but many others on similar builds.

I am using a 2080ti and i7-9700k and barely managing 25fps in the vc. Far from a low end machine. Performance is slightly better in p3dv5, but negligible.

Hello.
I would like to know if there is a way to have the exterior animations (opening cargo door etc) using the simplified exterior.

CS-767 with P3Dv5.2 has 3.7 FPS VC cockpit and Outside views. Reduced the CS-767 textures from 4K to 2K and also selected "Simplified Exterior" from ACE application. Loaded the aircraft in EDFE scenery. CS-767 is the only bird giving very low FPS and unflyable now. With 4K CS-767 textures it gives lower than 3.0 FPS. I load 737, 747 and 777 from Precision Manuals and A2A Constellation I get over than 30 to 40 FPS.
It has to be something from CS-767 that need to be fixed, edited or a new Installer, etc. to remedy the FPS.
Any thoughts ideas can be a help to give a try bringing CS-767 FPS as normal.
Please ..........
