Title: Nav/GPS switch
Post by qb3333 on Jan 21st, 2020 at 12:43am
Hello Captains
I am using P3D V4.5 and i have done a couple of flights but i cannot get the autopilot to follow the GPS course with the Nav/Gps switch to ON.  Not even sure if the switch works.  I have a flightplan loaded into the GPS and I have tried it with altitude hold, VOR/LOC mode but i get nothing.  Am I missing something?
Thanks

With the Cockpit ToolTips turned on, when you mouse over the switch, is it displaying Nav/GPS Mode Switch (GPS)? Or is it showing Nav/GPS Mode Switch (NAV)? If you see the (GPS) at the end, then it should track the route (as long as you load the route using the default Flight Planner (Menu > Navigation > Flight Planner)).

I just did a flight and it worked.  Not sure what i was doing before but it flew perfectly fine.  Thanks

Hi, this is my first post. So be patient with me because is quite difficult to write in english when you're from South America.

I have a similar with 737 and 727, i don't know why i can't just switch from nav to gps. When i press the button for a 0.0001 seconds it switch to gps and then go back to nav mode again, is the same thing when i use the toggle (Shift+N) this happens with the 737. The 727 is another history, i know that this planes were designed to fly vor-vor but for me sometimes i only wants to put the autopilot an then relax

Greetings from Colombia

I'm not sure why this is the case, but it works fine for me. I always fly default FS Flight Planner flights using GPS navigation, and the switch remains in GPS mode. :-/

So when you press the NAV/GPS switch in the 727, it also switches back to NAV mode? Again, this stayts in GPS mode if I dselect it, and I do mostly fly GPS mode (made using the default FS Flight Planner).

Out of curiosity, where is FSX/FSX-SE installed (i.e. drive and install location - mine is D:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX)

Hi Mark, first off all thanks a lot for answer me, im going to send you this photo, when you can see that the nav/gps switch in the 737 is "attached" in nav mode, even if i use the the default flight planer. I can't turn it into GPS.

in the other case (727) , i dont know why after all afternoon "tweaking" the panel i make it, the plane now follow the gps when use "shift+N".My Fsx-se, is located in C:/ x86/ Steam/ steamapps/ common/FSX. I've to say that i only have 1 hard disc (1tb)

I understand only having 1 drive, but Steam installing in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder seems strange. When I first install Steam (due to a computer upgrade, a drive failure, or a drive replacement), it always wants to install into C:\Steam, which is the better location for Steam with less restrictions placed on it by Windows, than in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder.

Also. Why are you adding the following lines to the gauges?

gauge01=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, 0,0,20,20
gauge02=Cessna!Nav_GPS_Annunciator, 0,20,20,20

The annuciator I quite get (I used to do it years ago myself), there are already NAV/GPS switches on the aircraft for switching between NAV and GPS (see attached image). Not only that, they are right in front of you in the 3D VC.

Srry, i'm so dumb jajaja. Seriously i don't why steam uses the x86 folder, all my games are there. Now i have to tell you why i put this lines, my 727 is really really old version that i have buy many years ago obviusly i didn't upradge to the last version, it works fine for me. Because im upradge it manually using your old post about the plane (tweaks, configurations, flight dinamycs).

"Que tiene esto que ver con el 737" (sorry), simple i didnt know that 737 already has a "natural" nav/gps switch, i've read a lot of older post where the people says that it was neccesary to put this lines if you have use the gps

Now i have to upradge my older and loved 727, and read more about the 737 (it has less tan 1 week with me)

It is still very much the same old 727 as the older versions, but with the latest version, there are improvements to it. ;)

Nav/GPS switch works for me and it tracks flight plan very well in GPS mode, but i Nav mode, it's either I am doing something wrong or it's not working properly.
I tried to have a flight with VOR routes only, just to keep my self more busy during flight, tuning frequencies and adjusting other things. Flight plan made with default P3D V4.5 flight planer. For that task it's ok.
So I tune my Nav1 frequency to VOR I am flying to and adjust the course as required. But plane struggles to capture the course properly. It is doing quite steep turns to capture the course, than overshoots it and tries to capture from other side and that is happening when I am still quite far away fro the VOR, lets say around 100 miles or more. Shouldn't it be more gentle when capturing VOR course from longer distances? Or I should fly in heading mode, to get closer to the course and only then capture it?  Would really like to understand it better, cause I find it much more interesting to navigate this airplane in Nav mode by VORs. I guess it is how it was really flown in the past.

Hey Alejandro, are you using FSX-SE, P3dv4 or do you have both sims on your system? Also on P3dv4 are you using the P3dv4 version of the 737 or the FSX version?

I would definitely concur with Mark, you need to update the 727 to the latest version. It’s so easy to do, you put in the purchase details into the Captain Sim website and the latest one is there for download.

Cheers,
Nathan
