Having problem in descending that aircraft's VNAV disconnects when MCP is set to lower altitude and aircraft climbs rather that descends properly, please advise any suggestions??

Had the same problem. Lowered altitude value in mcp, used the direct DES in fmc (new values for the descent were calculated in fmc), but the plane did not start to descend. Then used flch to descend, when pressing vnav again the plane started to climb and increase thrust.
