Title: CIVA INS Tutorial......text or You Tube
Post by Colvale on Aug 26th, 2019 at 6:53pm
Having searched high and low and being unsuccessful as most of what I have found is a bit dated, is there a tutorial either in text or via YouTube, for setting up and using the CIVA INS that comes with this aircraft?

I tried to set-up one from the Avsim-linked tutorial, but lost my way getting this aircraft to follow the waypoints, track, etc.

Any assistance appreciated.

Once you have it added the SimuFly Delco CIV-A INS to P3Dv4 (v1.60 I think is the one you need to use), make sure to set the NAV Source Select Switch to ONS, and have the A/P HDG switch turned on (much like what you need to do for the CS L-1011 32bit (FSX/SE/P3Dv3).

Thanks a lot, Mark. Where do I get this SimuFly Delco CIV-A-INS to add to my P3Dv4?

I found a YouTube featuring a female doing  an INS Tutorial, and did try to follow it, and thought I had managed to enter the first 9 waypoints, but even after selecting NAV and HDG, and setting FMS, the L-1011 reversed course!

Had to completely disarm the INS and revert to following the track manually through EFBv2

Please ignore, Mark. Found it.

Now to figure out how to integrate it in P3Dv4.

Mark, any help how I can integrate that SimuFly CIVA INS gauges into this L-1011 in P3D, please?

I'll have to look further into it.

So far, I haven't been able to get the gauges set up correctly yet (having them show up on the screen), and the documentation looks like it's the same as the docs for the 1.51version.
The gauges for v1.60 x64bit version, are named differently to what is seen in the documentation (so it shows that the documention is most likely for v1.51).

I have managed to get the Civa INS v1.60x64 to showq up in the 1011 II, but it stalls at 65 when trying to align. Other than that, it seems to work. At least it does to that point. Even loading in a flight plan in the ADEU works, so I really think I have it added correctly up to a certain point.

The INS turns on with the initialisation entry in [VCockpit01], just like it does if I add it to the bottom [Window00] (documentation says it must be there, but you must use SHIFT+1 to initialise it (nothing shows up on the screen when you this, and nothing should either)), or at the bottom of [Window03]. Even though it intialises, it still stops 65 during the alignment. I remember having this problem with the 707 Captain, but I can't remember the fix.

What also seems to happen, is one of the HDDs on my PC (I don't know which one) surges (spins up for a second or two, stops, then spins up for a second or two, stops...rinse and repeat...) when the L-1011 II with the INS is loaded into P3Dv4. :-/

EDIT. I got past the 65 problem, by pressing the TEST button on the CDU (and the HDD spin up seems to have stopped with it, which leads me to believe it was the drive that has P3Dv4 installed on it). Also, to get it to track the route in the INS, click on the INS NAV switch to turn it on (this is the NavModeSingle switch), leave the L-1011's Nav Source Selector on VOR, and press the HDG switch on the AP, and the SimuFly CIVA INS will track the route you have entered into the INS.

Note. The setup I have used is to have the MSU, CDU, ADEU, NavSingleMode, and UpdateFlags, all in the one panel (I used [Window03] and replaced the default 2D INS panel).

Hi Mark

Need some help, please.

I set up the INS as per the tutorial; radios all set up, and course set up as per tutorial. I then take off as per tutorial; at 1000ft ASL I engage the AP., and bring the flaps up as per the IAS.

I switch the HDG on; then NAV; and finally move the VOR in the navigation panel to FMS.

Am still baffled why the aircraft does not follow the INS. What am I doing incorrectly, please?

This IS the SimuFly CIVA INS (v160x64) you're using?

Going on the assumption that your answer to my question is yes.

Once the INS is aligned and set to NAV, and you have entered the waypoint coordinates for the route, all you need to do for the L-1011 II to follow the route is this:

1. Have the NAV Source Selector set to VOR (DO NOT set it to FMS or ONS!!!)
2. Turn the HDG Mode Switch ON
3. Turn the AP on (flip either AP Switch A, or B, to the CMD position)
4. Turn the SimuFly CIVA INS's INS NAV Switch (this is the NavModeSingle gauge) ON

Doing that, the L-1011 II should follow the SimuFly CIVA INS route.

For some strange reason I can't attach an image to this Reply/Topic, so I'll upload a video on YouTube showing you what I do, just so you can see it in action.

Hi Mark

Thanks for that. No, not using the SimuFly version of the CIVA INS(v160 x 64) as I was awaiting as and when you managed to sort out the small hiccups you encountered, so resorted to using the FSX Tutorial London-Madrid. Other than the sim, it was just a matter of swapping from FSX to P3D, so the Tutorial more or less was applicable to P3Dv4.

Hi Mark

Once again, tried the same CS FSX tutorial flight, from EGLL- LEMD and tried what you suggested for the SimuFly CIVA INS but instead, tried to substitute for the default INS that comes with this aircraft, and it did not follow anything that looked like the flightplan. I had to keep changing the HDG over and over to manually follow the flightplan, as I had the aircraft going off on a track of its own mind.

In the end I just gave up. Much as I do like this aircraft, I am afraid its INS navigation system is driving me up the wall and wasting my precious time.

Or, I may go your SimuFly route. To that extent, is it just a matter of running the .exe and then copy/pasting your aircraft.cfg as above?

For the default (Captain Sim) CIVA INS

1. CIVA INS Mode Selector Knob - NAV (after it has aligned - the green READY NAV light illuminates)
2. Flight Director Switch - ON, or SYNC (I use both set to SYNC)
3. AP Switch - CMD
4. Heading Mode Switch - ON
5. NAV Source Selector - FMS

Doing the above, the L-1011 II should follow the route.

Thanks, Mark. I'll try that, and report back.

I love this aircraft and really want to get the joy of using it, as long as it can navigate itself instead of constantly monitoring the track and accordingly adjusting the HDG.

Sorry Mark, I tried you suggestion, followed it to the letter but the aircraft instead of following the PFPX-generated Flightplan, which I imported into the sim's Flight Planner and checked the route was being displayed, instead of following the 269 deg course, it rigidly stuck to course 177 deg.

When I tried to revert to VOR and chose HDG to 269 the aircraft changed course to that heading, but the minute I changed VOR to FMS, it went back to 177 degrees which is nothing like the course.

At that stage, I packed it in. I'm now at a loss to get this INS to follow a flightplan.

Title: Re: CIVA INS Tutorial......text or You Tube

Something is definitely wrong there. I created a route from YMML to YSSY using PFPX, saved it as a default P3Dv4 .PLN file (YMMLYSSY-PFPX.PLN). I included a SID and STAR. After takeoff, once I switched on the HDG (which was set to the runway heading at the time), then rotated the NAV Source Selector Knob to FMS, it tracked the route no like it should.

I have tested the L-1011 II with the FD Switches set to ON (just one of them, then both), and that worked fine. I also tested with the FD Switches set to SYNC (just one of them, then both), and again that worked fine. As I said in my previous post I normally set both of the FD Switches to SYNC, but since the

I am currently doing a flight, and again I've tested with either one, or both, in the ON position, or the SYNC position, and they are working like they should.

The only reason I can think of why it isn't working for you, is that the MODE SELECTOR Knob on the INS is either not set to NAV, or it was not set to NAV before it was aligned. :-/

EDIT: Reading the manual, I found something else that might be a problem. The AUTO/MAN Switch. I always have this set to AUTO, not MAN.

The manual's description:

14. AUTO/MAN Switch

Selects automatic leg switching by INS (AUTO) or manual leg switching bythe pilot (MAN).

Maybe you have it on MAN?

Title: Re: CIVA INS Tutorial......text or You Tube
Post by Colvale on Sep 6th, 2019 at 6:56pm
Hi Mark. Many thanks for your reply. To clarify.

I do not use the MAN switch on the default CIVA INS. I leave it on AUTO.

The routing I had, FP created by PFPX, EGLL-LEMD had me departing from Rwy27L at EGLL, but I did not put the HDG to 271. Instead, I set it to 137deg as that was the first turn after lift-off, and it did follow that track after setting the VOR for LON at 113.30.

Then, as per your tips, immediately after lift-off, once I had climbed to 1000ft, I engaged AP after already having set the FD to SYNC in the before taxi checks, set the HDG switch on, as well as the NAV switch, then moved the Navigation Panel Mode switch to FMS.

The aircraft followed that 137deg heading but then just carried on going Eastwards towards the North Sea when it should have gone South towards Madrid.

I then switched from FMS to VOR and brought her back to follow the FP South-bound track, but when I switched back to FMS, the aircraft immediately veered and reverted to a 177 deg heading. Nothing in the clicking that middle right-screw next to the display showed up as a 177 course heading.

So, now I am quite bereft of ideas which way to go.

Wish I could attach images here.

Did everything as described previously except for changing the Capt's side course selector to 271deg,(Rwy27L) and after I reached 1000ft, and switched to FMS, it decided to head to 177deg.

I quit at that stage.

Can you provide the details of the flight you're trying to do?

Location of the L-1011 at the departure airport (Gate #), the route (including the takeoff runway you're using), and of course the arrival airport.

I would like to try the flight myself to see if it works for me.

I should have asked for this info earlier. :(

Hi Mark

As per the CS FSX Tutorial:

Departure airport:UK2000's EGLL(London Heathrow Extreme)
Gate: 317
Arrival airport: Aerosoft's LEMD(Madrid Barajas)
Take-off Runway: 27L
SID:DET2G

Hope this helps, Mark and thanks for giving it a shot.

Well I tried the tutorial, and I found a few interesting things.

1. With the N3 set tp 90%-92%, and pressing the IAS button at V2+10, the L-1011's VS went into the brown (descending), not the blue (climbing)! I had to push the throttles to the max to start climbing.

2. After passing through 10,000ft, and starting the climb to FL370, using the IAS set at 300 Knots, and a climb power of N3 87%, again the L-1011's VS went into the brown (descending), not the blue (climbing)! This time, I went I used the A/T set at 300 knots, and set the VS to 1800 (in the blue), but the speed sat at about 285, and by the time I reached cruise altitude, FL370, the speed was 257 knots, and using the A/T didn't change a thing. At cruise altitude, I turned the A/T off, then on again, and the L-1011 slowly increased to 300 knots, but I had to reduce it to 279 knots to maintain Mach 0.84.

Another weird thing was that using "Ctrl+Shift+G to arm the Takeoff mode of the Flight Director", when the L-1011 reached 60 knots on the takeoff run, the Alpha Mode Flag came up in the IAS Display, and it made it very difficult to do a proper takoff as described in the tutorial.

I never had any problems with the tracking of the route at any stage after switching it to HDG, FMS, and turning NAV Mode OFF. It tracked the route just like it should.

I also tried this by entering the POS two ways. The first way was as described in the tutorial:

2(N) 5 1 2 8 1 INSERT 4(W) 0 2 7 8 INSERT

and the second way was the way I would normally do it for EGLL Gate 317:

2(N) 5 1 2 8 1 INSERT 4(W) 2 7 8 INSERT

and it made no difference to the way the L-1011 followed the route, so both worked exactly the same (so I see no reason to add the 0 into it, because as you add the other numbers into it, they fill the correct places without it (but it could be the way that Tom Beckett was taught to enter them)).

I can only think that you are either doing something wrong with entering the coordinates at EGLL Gate 317, or something is not set correctly on the AP, so it isn't following the route - like you are leaving the NAV Mode Switch ON, and/or the AP is tracking something else when you switch the NAV Source Selector Switch to FMS. I'm at a loss as to why it won't track the route like it should.

Hi Mark

Your first two points are exactly what I too experienced, as well as the 'Ctrl+Shift+G' anomaly.

As regards your INS following the flightplan, where you and I differ was that I kept the NAV switch on as per your previous recommendation. So, I'll will next try it with NAV off.

And if it does what you experienced, voila! the nut is cracked!

Those instructions were for the SimuFly CIV-A INS (v1.60x64), and not the Captain Sim CIV-A INS, which comes with the 1011 Captain II. In my first reply, I mentioned the SimuFly CIV-A INS, and I think from that point on, there was confusion between the two different CIV-A INS units. Unfortuanately, that was my fault for not quite understanding your original post, where you said "I tried to set-up one from the Avsim-linked tutorial, but lost my way getting this aircraft to follow the waypoints, track, etc", simply because I missed the word tutorial in that sentence, and I took it that you must have been trying to set up the SimuFly CIV-A INS. Because of that, I went and downloaded the SimuFly CIV-A INS (v1.60x64), installed it, and then worked out how to set up and get it working in the 1011 Captain II. Once I had done that, I told you how to modify the panel.cfg, and instructions on how to get it track the route.

IF I had been able to upload an image of the final result, which I wanted to do, you would have noticed straight away that I wasn't showing how to do the flight with the Captain Sim CIV-A INS! The two CIV-A INS units look very different. :(

That NAV switch you say you turned OFF, is it the NAV switch on the INS or the NAV Switch on the Navigation Mode Panel ? Because I tried your way and turned that NAV switch on the Navigation Mode Panel to OFF and just engaged the HDG switch and FMS and the plane still selected heading 179.

Additionally, clicking on cross-head screw next to the right-hand side display(W) I got a strange waypoint showing 3089nm.I thought to myself, 'that's weird,as LEMD is nowhere 3089nm!'. I wonder is that that's throwing the INS out?

In the 757 III Forum I was able to attach screenshots. In this Forum, for some reason cannot do so. Wish I could.

Title: Re: CIVA INS Tutorial......text or You Tube
Post by Markoz on Sep 14th, 2019 at 11:51pm
Are you are loading the EGLLLEMD01 flight plan into the INS? The reason I ask is because when you first load the L-1011 II into the P3Dv4, there is a plan already loaded in the INS. It's the 1011-base.pln (VFR VOR to VOR from KVPS to KJFK), and it's needed or the INS doesn't work. Once you load a new route, it should overwrite that default route!

To get the Captain Sim INS to follow a route:

1. MODE SELECTOR Knob - NAV - after Alignment is completed (‘1011 Captain’MANUAL Part II – Aircraft and Systems, page 184, O02. MODE SELECTOR UNIT)

2. The route must be loaded into the INS either manually (entering the coordinates individually), or using Menu > Navigation > Flight Planner > Load  and then selecting EGLLLEMD01. Once back in the VC, check to make sure throute is showing in the INS by clicking on the right side screw (you should see 1(1) EGLL, 2(2) SAM, 3(3) KAPEX, etc.. which means that roiute is correctly loaded).

3. Everything is now done for the flight, so after takeoff, fly the runway  heading until you reached at least 3000', the L-1011 is clean (landing gear raised, and flaps up), have accelerated to 250 knots using the A/T, (not IAS mode, because for this test, we won't do the SID, we just want to make sure that the INS will track the route), and VS Mode selected and set to climb at 1800fpm (it doesn't matter if you have set the ALT ARM to 6000', or cruise alt of 37,000'). Once that is done:

4(a). Both Flight Director Switches - ON
4(b). Autopilot Switch - CMD (either Paddle Switch moved to the CMD position).
4(c). Heading Mode Switch - ON
4(d). NAV Switch - OFF (this is the one on the AP panel)
4(e). NAV Source Select Switch - FMS

Once you have done that, the L-1011 should start turning to intercept the magenta line between EGLL and SAM (press SHIFT+6 to bring up the MAP to verify that it is). Interestingly enough, the Heading Display flipped to 171, then 172, then 173, etc. until it settled on the best heading to intercept the magenta route line.

Note. I always leave the bottom right screw on the INS on amber, as it does the same thing as having it set to green:

‘1011 Captain’MANUAL Part II – Aircraft and Systems, page 190

28. Hidden (virtual) key – Auto-Switch Route Pages on/off
- There is no click zone if route is less or equal 9 waypoints.
- Lower right screw is amber if route is more than 1 page (more than 9
waypoints) and the lower right screw has not been pressed yet. It indicates
that you should decide which mode you will use for navigation. By default
"auto-switch route pages" will be on
.

If "auto-switch route pages" is on (lower right screw green or amber), next 9
waypoints will be loaded automatically when you reach leg 9-1 at the
current page. Please see NAVIGATION chapter for details.

Updated to v1001.

Did everything you kindly suggested except for the waypoints that came before SAM, generated by PFPX, which I could not delete.

Again, followed your advice, and very frustratingly, the aircraft after doing what you recommended, once reaching 3000ft, heads North away from Runway Heading 271 deg towards 356 deg.

Re-checking the INS there is no Heading 356 anywhere in the Flightpan, so, I am stumped as to where this 356 deg heading that the aircraft selects when moving that switch over to FMS is generated from.

Decided to play it out to see where it leads to. And instead of heading to LEMD,instead the aircraft is heading to Scotland!!!!

Pity I cannot attach images to highlight.

Try creating a new route from EGLL (Rwy 27L) to LEMD (Rwy 32L), but without a SID, or STAR.

EGLL DCT SAM N63 LELNA UN621 BASIK UN90 NOVAN UN864 ORBIS DCT LEMD

Save it as EGLLLEMDxx (xx = next number of the EGLLLEMD routes you already have saved), then load it into the INS instead of The EGLLLEMD01 that has the SID and STAR.

See if that works.

Okay, did as suggested.

Followed track 271 out of 27 L and just after 3000 ft engaged as suggested, and the plane headed towards HDG 181 and just stayed there. Did not even make an attempt to head towards SAM, etc, etc.Stayed on 181 all the way to the Northern headland of Spain.

At that junction, I just gave up, and quit

I just cannot figure what it is I am doing wrong, or maybe I should give up INS-equipped aircraft as a bad joke. It was never like this with the 707 in FSX way back when.

I was looking into this, and I wonder if somehow, your route is stuck with KJFK being the first waypoint. When I first load the L-1011-1 II, after turning on the INS, if I click on the "hidden screw" that displays the route, KJFK is there, and it's 3089nm away!!!! This is when I am parked at EGLL - Gate 317!!!! (see attached image)

Note. There is a hotfix 1002, but I believe this was to fix a problem a couple of us were/are having with the route tracking, and an Autoland problem (I wasn't having the Autoland problem) and nothing else, but you never know. ;)

I am intrigued as to how you managed to attach that image because I cannot seem to do it.

I re-loaded that flightplan as for some obscure reason as soon as I noticed I had a distance of over 3000nm in that INS, and this time it did show the correct distances. No idea why that glitch crept it because in no way I inserted KJFK as a waypoint.

Even after I have manually opted to fly a course to match SAM and then switch over to the FMS, here we go, off heading North, again, like a homing pigeon!

What program are you using that is showing the aircraft on the map?

EDIT. I have attached a zip file which includes the following files:

cs l-1011-1 at egll.cs.config
CS L-1011-1 at EGLL.fxml
CS L-1011-1 at EGLL.wx
EGLLLEMD01.pln1

I think it would best to load the CS L-1011 at EGLL flight from the Scenario Panel before starting P3Dv4!

The L-1011-1 is the default CS L-1011-1 Captain Sim House 1970 1 livery.
It's sitting at the start of runway 27L, ready for takeoff2. All you need to do is release the Parking Brake, and then throttle up. The INS is aligned, and set to NAV, with the route already loaded.
You can takeoff, get the aircraft clean, and climbing at 250 knots, then turn the NAV Source Selector to FMS to immediately start following the route (it will turn to intercept the magenta route line).
Or you can choose to follow Tom Beckett's tutorial.

1 After loading the EGGLLEMD01.pln flight plan into the INS, the creation/modification date for the file, is changed to the date/time that you do it for the first time. After that, the INS no longer changes it (I unzipped the original EGLLLEMD01.pln several times, noting that the creation/modification date for the file changed the first time I loaded it into the INS).

2 The following AP settings are:
Airspeed set to 220 IAS (this is 10 knots less than the maximum speed for 15o Flaps)
VS - ON (Vert Speed set +1000fpm)
HDG - ON (Heading set to 271)
Arm - ON (altitude set to 6000ft)

To follow Tom Beckett's tutorial, you need to turn the NAV button ON (and turn the VS button OFF if you want to use IAS for the climb). ;)

I use AivlaSoft EFBv2 to provide a map-following.

Thanks for the attachments.

Will try out your tips, thanks.

Don't use IAS as when I tried to use it the VS went negative in the initial climb-out.

Same here.

My Climb-out is this:
100-200' AGL - Gear up
400' AGL - AP on
Then it takes until I'm about 1500' AGL, fort the climb rate to drop to +1000fpm, and the airspeed by then is around 200 knots.
At 220 knot, I raise 4o Flaps, and set 240 in the IAS display, and raising the Flaps at 230 knots, and finally set the IAS to 250.
Once 250 knots is reached, I increase the climb rate to 1800fpm.
I stay at 6000' until I pass SAM (as per the SID), then start the climb to FL370.

I am a bit lost here, Mark.

(1)At Rwy27L ready to take off.
(2) Used your zipped file contents
(3)So, the flightplan is EGLLLEMD.pln, right?
(3) But the INS is showing me that attached
(4)So, where did EGLL-LEMD disappear to?
(5) Yet checking your EGLLLEMD.plan,it showed the waypoints you listed in the previous post, yet the INS shows something different
(6) I am really baffled.

A sheer waste of time!

This INS has a mind of its own.The minute it is switched on, it goes from HDG271 to 32. Why, wherefor, not a clue. It is not even listed anywhere as track waypoint!!!!

This aircraft and its INS is a complete joke!

It's interesting to see that you see the entire 1011-base.pln in the INS when you load the L-1011 into P3dv4.  I only see KJFK in the INS, but in the Flight Planner, I see the entire route.

As an exercise, rename/backup the 1011-base.pln  (found in the Documents\Prepar3D v4 Files), then retry my saved flight. You might even want to try the default flight KVPS to KJFK, and see if the INS will at least track that route.

I just tested renaming the 1011-base.pln, and was surprised to find that the INS still worked fine for me! :O

Over the last couple of weeks, I have downloaded the installer, csy112_1000.exe, several times. Unistalled/reinstalled the 1011 II Captain several times. Tested with/without the Hotfix 1001, and the Hotfix 1002, and yet for all that, I'm not having any major troubles with the INS.

On the track to KJFK, but then I must have taken my eyes off the ball, as I was making the descent, despite selecting 250kts for the descent, the A/T all of a sudden switched off and it went haywire, but the main point being, this time the INS actually worked as per.

Now to try the next step, EGLL-LEMD, and see if I can crack that INS at last.

Well, well, well. Renamed your Base.pln, then decided to re-try that EGLLLEMD.plan, and amazingly the INS followed the track

More or less following the flightplan. A far cry from what has preceded before. I wonder if doing that earlier flight on the Base.pln cleared some gremlin?

The fact that in all of the images of tracking the EGLLLEMD route, you appear to be off the route by the about the same distance, makes me think that your alignment is off by that margin.

For testing purposes, I recommend that you do the Zero Drift Error Feature.

Zero Drift Error Feature:
- data Selector - DSRTK/STS
- press REMOTE
- when REMOTE illuminates you will see increasing digits on the left display
- press key 3
- REMOTE will extinguish
- if you press REMOTE again
- you will see 0

Drift error is erased and will not increase in the current flight.

This way, the L-1011 will always be on the magenta route line in the map, so if your alignment is off, then you will know that's true, and not the drift error that occurs over time with the INS.

Will do re:alignment, and report back.

Thanks.

That's it!!!!! I am wasting no more time with this aircraft. Period.

Yesterday, I had it follow a route, loaded in the INS, albeit, a bit off the true alignment, but nevertheless, heading South towards its destination.

This evening I load the same FP same aircraft, same Rwy, etc, etc everything teh same. Did the same AP functions, and so maddeningly, the aircraft heads North.

Even re-checking the INS showed the FP loaded correctly and as per what it ought to be, yet the aircraft has a mind of its own.

I have no idea why it won't track the route for you. I have had nothing but success with the L-1011 tracking routes.

INS
Mode Selector Knob - NAV (set after alignment, and when the Ready NAV light turns green)

Autopilot
FD Swithes - ON
HDG Switch - ON
Navigation Source Selector Knob - FMS

In the attached image, it shows all that is needed for the route loaded into the INS to be tracked (the INS on left side of the image shows the Ready NAV light is green, so the Mode Selector Knob, on the INS, can be now be rotated to NAV).

Even after loading a route, and following my instructions here (the post directly above yours), the L-1011 II doesn't follow it? :-/

Followed your letters to the T mate, loaded in the FP, FD's set to on (also tried in sync) and NAV mode selected to FMS. Departed from EGLL on the 1st attempt, Flight plan should have routed me North, I ended up over the English channel, tried another flight departing JFK, same setup INS should have routed me North East towards the Atlantic, it decided it wanted to go for poutine in Toronto instead

OK, possible breakthrough -

Currently flying CYVR - SEQM and it seems to be following the flightplan - I did two actions prior to this and either could be the fix for those having this issue.

1- Completly uninstalled the L-1011 via the control panel, after this go into P3D V4 root folder and remove any L-1011 folders from the captain sim sub-folder and the aircraft subfolder - restart. Reinstall the L-1011 (remember to disable AV) and then the update.

2- After loading a flightplan, and while the INS is under ALLIGN,  turn the INS selector to WAY PT, make sure your on position 1 on the selector wheel and enter the co-odinates for the gate your occuping.

i just did both of these and seems to be working, I'll update futher down the route   :)

I should add to this, waypoint 1 should match the Co ordinates you enter in POS during alignment
