Title: Sound files for B-52 Post by LecLightning56 on Mar 31st, 2019 at 8:00am
I am a little confused at the use of sound files which only operate on 4 engines for the B-52: either each pylon-mounted pair has been modelled as one engine with its appropriate sound levels, or the sound level for each engine individually is not actually modelled.
Also, if I wished to use an alternative sound set which, say, had originally been developed for a four-engined aircraft, how would I modify this set to account for 8 engines in terms of realistic sound levels? Footnote to the above: I have been experimenting with a JT3D sound set from TSS originally produced for a Boeing 707, and simply doubled the values associated with volume in the vparams entries in the sound.cfg file (to accommodate the sound appropriate to 8 engines). The result is awesome! Also, it would appear from the original Microsoft ESP for the sound configuration files that only 4 engines are permitted in FSX, hence each 'engine' has to represent the paired engines on each of the four pylons. |

And that is the answer to why each pair of engines is controlled as if they were a single engine. Captain Sim did explain this somewhere in this forum a long time ago. I'm not sure about the engine sounds, but I'm guessing you sorted it out when you say "The result is awesome!". ;) |

I was lucky enough to see 5 B-52Hs landing at RAF Fairford on 28th March 2019 in the UK. Awesome sight and sound, they even managed a few formation flypasts (2 aircraft at a time) and a number of obviously deliberate missed approaches. Great also to see the parachute deployed on landing. I have even managed to find a repaint for one of these aircraft noted there, 61-0015 (2nd BW, Barksdale AFB): the effect with my modified engine sounds is frighteningly realistic! |

Lucky you. That would have been an awesome sight to see. ;)
