Not sure if you got your answer yet...
I purchased (Weapons) around 2011 to run on MSFSX.
I purchased the (FSX Steam) version in 2016, thinking that I couldn’t use Weapons anymore.
Today I decided to try and install Weapons FSX in my STEAM version of FSX and discovered that install the add-on in the (Steam FSX ) folder and now I am pleasantly surprised that I can run Weapons FSX in STEAM.
The screen doesn’t freeze every time I fire and there doesn’t seem to be any issues early on.
Way too soon for me to know long term issues that may arise so I would love to see buildings and other aircraft “blow up” after a direct hit from my FA18.
There is an exciting “ground hit” with explosions , smoke , flying dirt and fire.
I hope this add-on gets a makeover and update to be as realistic as possible..
