Title: GOODBYE FSX!
Post by Captain Sim on Oct 12th, 2018 at 3:21pm
Captains,
It's 12 (twelve, Karl) years since FSX release!
Great sim, the last and the best one from Microsoft. (EDIT 04/2020: hopefully not anymore)
Space Shuttle was our first FSX product...
We are sure that FSX will continue to fly for many more years, as FS9 does, but it's time to retire FSX officially.

To add even more drama, we'd call it the end of 32-bit era, which means P3D2-3 are retired as well.

Technically that means no more updates, no new developments for 32-bit sims.
The upcoming 757 CAPTAIN III Freighter and -300 expansions for FSX/P3D3 will be released and updated as usual. But they are going to be the last ones for 32-bit sims.

GOODBYE FSX! :'(

Always a sad time, but that's the price of evolution.

Good move in my opinion.

The code in FSX is stuck in virtual perpetuity. This will only limit what developers can do substantially and leave them to still hack around issues which consumes much time and resources.
Indeed moving on to P3D v4 when it was released meant saying goodbye to some aircraft, I can say I get more enjoyment out of the new ones being made taking full advantages of the new SDK capabilities. I rarely have any issues and crashes have been a thing of the past for the last year, a positive change that I certainly don't miss. I now spend most of my time enjoying my simulator and its content rather than tweaking and fixing it; a situation that was all but impossible and never ending for me with FSX.

You will have 100% of my future support C.S..

Cheers

Please don't stop selling your FSX Acceration and Steam packages, though.
I still have many planes that really enjoy flying that are 5-15 years old, some came out with FS2002 and have been updated by their original creator ever since.
I still don't have a PC that can run FSX 32bit turned up all the way.  It's not in my budget.  There are a lot of us in that boat.
I understand your discontinuing development, but please don't stop sales or answering questions about your 32bit projects.  There are still 3 of your airliners I don't have yet.
Yours,
Randy
(Customer since about 2004)

Yes.
The end of production doesn't necessarily mean the end of everything ;)

Hi,
I also have left FSX a couple of years ago.
Since I have been switching to P3Dv4, I dream to get the B707 with extension AWACS back in my hangar... :(
Will letting FSX aside let us expect a faster development of promised birds in 64-bits ? Of course I am thinking about my beloved B707-E3, but also the C-130, Triple7 and sisters ?
Give us expectations.... :D :D :D

Talked to a guy i fly with on line and he converted cause of no OOOM's in P4D and it cost him 1,000 bucks and  I'm just not sure if i want to go with that much expense, but he did say that Captain Sim were the only ones who gave him a break when they looked at his account and seen he had bought a lot of procuct here.    Louis

Just remember that LM is a large hardware based company. P3D is an IRAD funded excursion which happens to provide benefit to their primary product lines. In short, LM is NOT a software company and P3D could easily fall off the chart for IRAD funding. It's fine to declare FSX is dead, but the wise simmer will not put all their eggs in the P3D basket.

I guess Captain Sim will say something once they know how 3rd Party addons will be included in the new MS Flight Simulator.

It looks great, and it was something that I was not expecting to come out of E3 2019, but it certainly has my hopes up.  :D ;D

Would love to move across to the 64bit sims, if only I didn't have re-purchase all my addons. Staying with FSX for the moment, but feel like the change is inevitable in the end.

Well I gotta say that this was a big surprise:

Quote:
In 2014 Microsoft entered into an agreement allowing Dovetail Games to bring Flight Simulator X to Steam. Today, we are announcing that we’ve reached the end of our partnership agreement.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to Dovetail Games for the partnership they’ve provided over the past 5 years. Going forward, Microsoft will take over support of Flight Simulator X and we look forward to sharing our next steps with the community in the very near future.

Paul Jackson CEO Dovetail adds “We are incredibly proud to have looked after this fantastic flight sim during the last 5 years and we will continue publishing existing and new add-ons for FSX: Steam Edition on Steam”.

This change will not impact your game experience or impact existing or future add-ons purchased from Steam.

Microsoft

The return of Microsoft Flight Simulator X is an important step in embracing our accountability and responsibility to those that have come before us. And to those that continue to value and invest in the Microsoft Flight Simulator X experience.

That passion, investment, and appreciation must be recognized and reflected in our commitment to carry the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise into the next generation. We are not building on, but building from, the product and history that is Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Today, with a bit of bittersweet sentiment, we say “Welcome Home” to an old friend.

More on our FSX plans coming soon…

Sincerely,

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Team

I didn't know that Dovetail Games was only looking after FSX for 5 years, then MS would take it back.

I highlighted the statemen "More on our FSX plans coming soon...", and I'm wondering what MS has planned for FSX?  :o
