Title: Issue with using Joystick instead of Yoke
Post by Prayog on Jun 17th, 2016 at 7:33am
Hi everybody,
I have joystick not yoke (Thurstmaster T Flight Hotas). There are buttons on Joystick to trim the aileron UP and DOWN. If I use those any time during (manual) flight, the plane just become uncontrollable e.g. with UP pressed only once, the nose goes up too much. So it seems either very sensitive OR I am missing some calibration. On some other thread about CS B727, I read that the sensitivity can be configured in aircraft.cfg

For the mentioned reason, I refrain from using these buttons and simply control the plane with Joystick movement. However I would like to explore if there are options or rather better ways.

Can somebody please share their experience and if there is any best way to use Joystick with CS B777.

Regards
Prayog

When assigning buttons to a control, there are 3 settings for sensitivity (button repeating while pressing it)  for them:

Minimum setting = a single click trims a little bit - multiple presses can be needed to trim the aircraft to a good setting at the beginning, after that it can be quite good. No button repeat.
Medium setting = a single click adjusts the trim a bit faster. Slow button repeat. I find this the ideal setting, and use it for my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick.
Maximum setting = a single click adjusts the trim a lot faster. Fast button repeat. Too fast IMHO.

Other than those settings, there could be a way of setting up how fast a button repeat occurs with the buttons through a game profile program (if it has one).

Hi Mark, is that the default control settings you are talking about in sim (P3D)  or settings somewhere else ?

Yes. They are the settings found in P3D:

In that image, the button repeat for Elevator trim (down) and Elevator trim (up) is set to maximum (fast repeat), while the button repeat for Flaps (extend incrementally) and Flaps (retract incrementally) are set to minimum (no repeat at all).

I will check Mark. Thanks a lot. The "repeat" functionality explains that weird behavior.  :)

EDIT: I have checked this Mark and yes I have better controls now :) Moreover I used this also to configure reverse thrusters post landing and is less painful :) Thanks once again.
