Title: Installing FSX product to FSX-SE?
Post by VPA561 on May 10th, 2016 at 8:45am
I am sure this question was asked before but i cannot find the response.
I have the 767 and 757 for FSX and i am moving to FSX-SE is it possible to install them both into FSX-SE ? And if so are any "fudges" required ?

Thanks
Steve

I'm pretty sure they install fine in FSX-SE, but if not, it will only be the DLL.XML file that you will need to make any changes to.

Like you might need to go to the DLL.XML for FSX, copy the following info:

</Launch.Addon>
     <Launch.Addon>
     <Name>Captain Sim 757 Sound</Name>
     <Disabled>False</Disabled>
     <Path>Captain_Sim\757\cs.sound.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
</Launch.Addon>
     <Launch.Addon>
     <Name>Captain Sim 767 Sound</Name>
     <Disabled>False</Disabled>
     <Path>Captain_Sim\767\cs.sound.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

then paste them in the FSX-SE DLL.XML file.

To get access to these files, open the Run box (Windows Key + R, or START>Run... (if it is showing on the START Menu)), then type (or copy and paste) this %AppData%\Microsoft\FSX-SE\DLL.XML, and then %AppData%\Microsoft\FSX\DLL.XML, which should open the files. If you are asked what program to use to open them, select Notepad (that's what I use).

Note. If no DLL.XML file exists for FSX-SE, then download and install FSUIPC (it's free to use), and this will create the DLL.XML file for FSX-SE.

Whatever you were using for your CD (or "box") version of FSX that you like will probably work in Steam also. The big difference in the two as far as add-on's go is where Steam hides it's version of FSX.
Steam tends to bury it's version of FSX deeper in it's directory structure than MS did. IE:MS FSX you install in, let us say D:\, so you get D:\FSX for it's main directory. Steam it's more like D:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX.
As long as you can point autoinstallers (which is distrust deeply) for add-ons to the proper folder(s), then most add-ons work exactly the same. Click here for more info.

The key words in your response is most add-ons work exactly the same, and that's the problem with Captain Sim products, not all of them work exactly the same when installed into FSX-SE. ;)

This kind of information is very limited on the internet. Nice to find the post related to my searching criteria.

I now have all my Captain Sim addons running in FSX:SE (FSX is not installed), and all of those I have tried, work fine in it. I still have to test Weapon for FSX, which was not working in FSX:SE when both FSX, and FSX:SE, were installed in Windows. It always looked to, and worked with FSX, but ignored FSX:SE. Due to the difference of where the FSX:SE folder is located under C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft. When alone, it is FSX, but with both installed, it is FSX-SE, so I think that affects how the Captain Sim products install in FSX:SE.
