Title: INS shows no wind direction
Post by toelg on Aug 18th, 2015 at 12:05pm
Hi,

first thanks to the CS-team for the 727-update !  :)

Just noticed an issue regarding the default INS :
As I set the DATA Selector to WIND, the display shows only the wind speed; but the left side for the wind direction shows always 0° for me.

For weather I'm using ASN.

Best Regards
   Dietmar

The wind indication of the CS L1011-INS works well. But  at the 727-INS, the wind direction shows always 0° for me.

Just would like to know, if this is a bug, or is there something wrong only at my system ?

I installed the 727 update several months ago but just now got around to flying it.  The Captain Sim CIVA INS works well for me, exactly tracking course in agreement with the GPS and Navigation map.  However, I get the same 0 degrees wind direction that others reported in this thread, wind velocity is correct.  But I have another problem that the INS ground speed is way below the GPS speed.  At altitude FL260, 354 kts indicated airspeed, the GPS reports GS of 512 kts but the INS says 303 kts. Distance to go exactly agrees between the GPS and INS, but relative to the GPS the INS always does the automatic leg change late because of the low groundspeed. I used an E-6B computer to check the relationship among IAS, TAS, wind and groundspeed and the GPS groundspeed is close to correct. I think this is related to the wind direction problem.  I'm quite sure I have the autopilot set up correctly:  NAV/GPS switch set to NAV, AP knob set to MAN, ail and elev paddles engaged, alt hold toggle on, heading select on, source AB.  I shut down the flight and FSX, restarted, same result.  I haven't tried reinstalling the 727. Any ideas?

Following my earlier report of the INS wind direction and groundspeed problem. I have 2 .jpeg files with screen saves illustrating the problem, but I don't understand the instructions for attaching an image file. I read the Help section but I don't know how to do it.  I have submitted a service ticket on this INS issue, which CS has acknowledged.

I upload images to photobucket.com, then I get the link by sharing them, and paste the link in my post:

Thanks, Mark, now I understand it better.  I thought that was probably was the solution, but I couldn't get the default http in the example to allow me to type anything else into that blue  space.  I have used imgur for image files, so I will give that a shot.  Thanks again.

Here are the images showing the discrepancies between the CIVA INS and GPS:

I'm back on this thread because CS apparently killed the Trouble Ticket (12712) I submitted back in March without any action because I never received a response and if I query the ticket number that they assigned, the response is that it doesn't exist. I have done another uninstall>download>install of the latest (2.7) basic and Expansion, but the problem continues: if I use the INS the wind speed indicates correctly but always from 0 degrees; the present position correctly displays the Lat/Long shown in the FSX position (Upper left corner after Shift>Z) but the INS groundspeed is always 59.1% of the groundspeed shown on the GPS (and confirmed by my speed/distance calculations). This groundspeed difference makes it impossible for the INS to accurately follow the flight plan. I'm hoping that anyone who had this wind direction problem back in 2015 and got some response about the problem and can educate me,  or to shame CS Support into doing something with my support ticket (12712) using the image files I posted in this thread.  The INS for my CS 727 is useless (the same INS on my CS-L1011 works perfectly).

We replied that the issue is forwarded to developers for consideration, the issue will definitely be considered when we will be working on the new SP.

Hello Tanya,
Anything new on this issue? The INS discrepancies continue, so I'm only flying VOR-to-VOR.
